How to put posts or articles in your own order

In TeleportHQ, your Blog posts or Help Center articles have one order of your own. Click Reorder above the posts list, drag the posts into place, and click Done. The list page (/blog or /help) then shows them in that order, each category page lists its posts in it, and the Previous / Next links at the end of each post follow it. Manual Order in the settings is the switch behind it: Reorder turns it on for you.

Before you start

  • Your project needs the Blog or the Help Center switched on. See How to add a blog to your site or How to add a help center to your site.
  • Manual Order starts on in the Help Center (help articles are read in the order you give them) and off in the Blog (posts are read newest first). You don't need to switch it on yourself: Reorder does.

Steps

  1. In the left sidebar (the icon column), click Blog, or Help Center.
  2. Above the posts list, right of the search box, click Reorder. A strip replaces the search box: "Drag the posts into the order you want. Each drop is saved." Every post now has a grip on its left, and the list shows the posts in your order.

If Manual Order was off, it's now on: the list page, the category pages and Previous / Next follow your order from here on.

  3. Drag a post by its grip. The post lifts and follows your pointer, the other posts make room where it will land, and when you drop it the post flashes in its new place. The strip says Saving…, then Saved: TeleportHQ saves every drop as it happens.
  4. To order the posts of one category only, click its pill in the row at the top of the panel first: you then see and drag only its posts, and the posts you don't see keep their places.
  5. Click Done (or press Escape) to leave. The search box comes back.

To move a post with the keyboard, press Tab until its grip is outlined ("Drag to reorder, or use the arrow keys"), then press the up or down arrow key: the post moves one place each time.

Check that it worked

  • In the posts list, click Reorder again: the posts stand in your order.
  • On your live site, the list page shows the posts in your order. With Sort on in Listing Page Settings, readers land on Your order and can switch to a date, title or reading-time order; with Sort off, the list shows your order.
  • A category's page lists its posts in your order, and Previous / Next at the end of a post lead to the post before and after it in your order among the posts of its category. The settings say so too: with Manual Order on, Previous & Next Posts reads "Links to the post before and after it in your order".
  • Category pages need Category Pages on (Settings → Listing). They are on by default in the Help Center. See How to use blog categories, tags and related posts.

Troubleshooting

There is no Reorder button It shows above the list once the blog has at least two posts, and not while posts are ticked for a bulk action. Untick them.

I don't see the grips Click Reorder first. The grips only show in reorder mode, and go when you click Done.

A post I wrote lands at the end A post written while Manual Order is on takes the last place. Click Reorder and drag it where you want it.

I turned Manual Order off and the order came back later Turning Manual Order off keeps your order: the list page, the category pages and Previous / Next go back to newest first, and your order comes back when you turn it on again, or when you click Reorder.

Good to know

  • One order for the whole blog: a post keeps its place when you move it to another category, and a category page shows its own posts in that order, its own posts first and then each sub-category's.
  • Posts you never arranged (older posts, or posts imported without a place) come after the arranged ones, newest first, until you click Reorder, which gives every post a place.
  • Imports can bring the order with them: a Markdown file's order: (or position, weight, sidebar_position, nav_order) and a CSV's sort_order column set a post's place. See How to import Markdown files into your blog or help center and How to import or export blog posts.
  • Your site's llms.txt lists the posts of each category in your order too.
  • The switch itself is in Blog Settings (or Help Center Settings) → Listing → Manual Order.
