How to add and format text
In TeleportHQ, you add text with a Text or Heading element from the Elements panel. Double-click the text to type your own words. Highlight part of the text to open a small toolbar with Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Text color and alignment buttons. Fonts and sizes are set in the Text Style section of the right panel.
Add a text or heading
- On the canvas, select the container that should hold the text.
- In the left sidebar, click Elements.
- On the Primitives tab, find the Typography group.
- Click Text (T) for a paragraph or a short text, or Heading (H) for a title. You can also drag the card onto the canvas.
A Heading is added as a main title (H1) with the word "Heading", and a Text with the word "Text". To add text faster, select a container and press T or H.
The Typography group also has Link (L) for a text that is a link, and Date (D) for a formatted date. See How to add links and buttons.
Type your own text
- Double-click the text on the canvas. A text cursor appears.
- Type or paste your words. For example, type
Fresh cakes, baked every morning. - Click outside the text to finish.
You can also select the text and press Enter or E to start editing.
Format part of the text
TeleportHQ lets you format a few words differently from the rest of the text.
- Double-click the text to edit it.
- Highlight the words you want to change. A small toolbar appears above them.
- Click Bold, Italic, Underline or Strikethrough. You can also press Cmd+B, Cmd+I or Cmd+U (Ctrl on Windows).
- To color the words, click Text color and pick a color.
- To align the whole paragraph, click Align left, Align center, Align right or Justify.
To clear formatting from part of a text, right-click it and choose Remove Formatting.
Change the font, size and color of the whole text
- Select the text on the canvas (one click).
- In the right panel, find the Text Style section.
- Change Font Family, Font Weight, Font Size, Line Height or any other setting.
- To change the color, use the Text Color section.
For every setting and the best way to keep fonts consistent, see How to change font, size and text color and How to apply a text style to text.
Change a heading level (H1, H2, H3)
Search engines use heading levels to understand your page, so each page should have one H1.
- Select the heading.
- In the right panel, open the Attributes section.
- In Tag, choose the level, for example h2.
The same Tag list turns a text into a heading, or a heading into a paragraph. The look on the canvas may not change, because the style is set separately.
Check that it worked
Your words show on the canvas with the formatting you chose. Select the text to see its settings in the Text Style section of the right panel.
Troubleshooting
The formatting toolbar doesn't appear The toolbar shows only while you edit the text and some words are highlighted. Double-click the text, then drag across the words.
The font settings are hidden in Text Style The text uses a saved text style, so its section is titled "Text Style - " plus the style's name. Detach the style or edit the style itself. See How to apply a text style to text.
Double-clicking opens a panel instead of a text cursor The text comes from connected data (for example, a product name, a blog post or a database field). Double-clicking opens that data so you can edit it there.
I can't change the font for only a few words The Font Family applies to the whole text element. Use two text elements side by side in a row if you need two fonts.
Good to know
- Rewrite with AI: select one text and click Rewrite with AI to get shorter, longer or differently toned versions. See How to rewrite text with AI.
- "Read more" text: the Collapsible Text element shows a short text that expands on click. It works in websites and web apps. See Which elements can I add to a page?
- Pasting plain text onto the canvas doesn't create a text element. Add a text element first, double-click it, then paste.
- Fonts not in the list must be added first. See How to change the fonts on your site.
- Spell check: while you type on the canvas, misspelled words are underlined. To turn it off, click the Project settings cog at the bottom of the left sidebar, open Editor → Preferences → Editing, and under Content turn off Check spelling while editing text on the canvas.
- Find and replace: press Ctrl+Alt+F (Cmd+Option+F on a Mac) to open Find and replace, which finds a text on every page and replaces it. Ctrl+F (Cmd+F) is left to your browser's own find in page.
