How to connect other apps with workflow integrations
In a TeleportHQ workflow, integration steps send data to other apps, such as posting a Slack message, adding a row to Google Sheets or creating a HubSpot contact. Add a step, open Integrations, pick the app, paste your API key or token for that app, choose an Action, and fill in its fields. TeleportHQ has integration steps for over 70 apps.
Before you start
- You need an account with the app and an API key or token from it. Each app's key field has a Where to find this? guide.
- You need a workflow with a trigger. See How to create a workflow. Workflows are a web app feature; see What is a web app in TeleportHQ?.
Steps
This example posts a Slack message to a bakery's #orders channel for every new cake order.
- Open the workflow. Point at the step after which Slack should be notified and click the round + (Add node) below it. Below the last box of a workflow, the + always shows.
In the Add Node menu, type
slackin Search nodes.... Only the Integrations category is left.- Point at Integrations. A panel titled Integrations opens, grouped by category. Click Slack. In that panel's Search integrations... box you can also search for what you want to do, for example
send message. - In the right panel, paste your token into Bot Token. Click Where to find this? for the "How to Get Your Slack Bot Token" guide. The token is stored as a project secret, and every Slack step in the project uses it.
- Under Action, choose Send Message.
- Fill in the action's fields:
- Channel:
#orders - Message Text:
New order:followed by the cake type, dragged from the Context panel. See How to use data from one workflow step in the next.
- Channel:
- Optional fields sit under Additional parameters. Click Add parameter to add one.
Check that it worked
Right-click the Slack step and choose Test this node…, then Run test. Every integration step can be tested. The message really appears in your Slack channel. See How to test a workflow step.
See every app your workflows use
In TeleportHQ, every app your workflows use also gets an entry in Project settings → Integrations: click the Project settings cog at the bottom of the left sidebar and look under Integrations, below GitHub. Each entry shows its status (for example Configured or Not set up), which workflows and steps use it, and its Credentials, which you can save once for every step, replace or remove. See How to add analytics, a GitHub token and push notification keys (Integrations).

Troubleshooting
The step shows an orange warning and a yellow "1 issue" button appears at the top left of the editor The app's key or token is missing. Paste it in the step, or click the issues button and fill it in under Missing Credentials in the Issues window. See Why does my workflow show missing configuration or security warnings?.
The AI left the app's step out of my workflow When you ask the TeleportHQ AI Assistant for a workflow that needs an app you haven't connected yet, it doesn't add a step that would fail. It tells you what to connect, and adds a setup card for the app to the Issues window, under Setup Requested by the Assistant. Enter the app's credentials there, then ask again. See How to build a workflow with AI.
"<name> is required" A required field for the chosen Action is empty. Fill it in.
The test fails with an authorization error The key is wrong, expired or doesn't have the permissions the action needs. Create a new key in the app, following Where to find this?, and check its permissions (for Slack, the bot must also be invited to the channel).
The app I need isn't in the list Use the HTTP Request step in the General category to call the app's API directly. To receive data from an app, see How to start a workflow from a webhook.
Good to know
- Integrations use your own account with each app, so that app's limits and prices apply.
- Payments for your own store are set up in E-Commerce, not with the Stripe integration. See How to accept payments with Stripe or PayPal.
- Your keys are stored as project secrets. The project owner can see and manage them in Project settings → Data & code → Secrets. See How to keep passwords and API keys safe (Secrets).
