How to add a language

How to add a language

In TeleportHQ, you add a language from the language button at the top left of the canvas: click Add language, pick the language, choose what to translate, and click Add followed by the language name. Every language besides your main one needs its own language slot, and no plan includes one. If your workspace has no free slot, TeleportHQ offers to buy one and assigns it to the project in the same step. TeleportHQ can translate your content and place a language switcher with AI while it adds the language.

Before you start

  • Internationalization must be turned on. See How to make your site available in several languages.
  • Language slots: Trial, Pro and Premium include no extra languages, so each one needs a language slot: a recurring add-on bought for the workspace and assigned to one language in one project. Pro and Premium workspaces can buy slots; a trial can't. Only a workspace owner or admin can buy one. For prices, see How to buy extra language slots or the pricing page.
  • AI tokens: automatic translation, and placing the language switcher, use AI tokens. Without enough tokens, the language is added as a copy of your main language.
  • You need a role that can edit the project's components.

Steps

1. Pick the language

  1. At the top left of the canvas, click the language button (a globe and your current language, for example English).
  2. Click Add language. The Available languages list opens beside the menu.
  3. Pick a language. For example, Spanish. To find one faster, type its name in Search language....

What happens next depends on your language slots:

  • You have a free slot (a slot your workspace bought that no language uses yet): the Add Spanish inside the project window opens. Go to step 2. TeleportHQ links the free slot to the new language.
  • You have no free slot: the Purchase Language Slot window opens with "You have no available language slots." See "Buy a slot while adding a language" below.

2. Choose what to translate and add the language

  1. In the Add Spanish inside the project window, leave Automatically translate content on to translate your pages with AI. Turn it off to start from a copy of your main language.
  2. Your project's other content has its own switches, all on at first: Automatically translate blog posts (with a blog), Automatically translate help center articles (with a Help Center), Automatically translate payment products (with a store) and Automatically translate booking items (with Bookings). Turn off any you want to keep in your main language for now.
  3. Leave Add a language switcher to the navigation and footer on to let TeleportHQ place a switcher where it fits. This switch only shows when your navigation or footer has no switcher yet and your workspace has enough AI tokens.
  4. Click Add Spanish.

A window titled Adding Spanish to your project lists each step, such as Pages & components, Blog posts, Products, Booking items, Language switcher and Finishing up, with how far each one is. After a while you can click Continue in background and keep working; reopen it from the progress card at the bottom of the canvas.

When it's done, the message "Spanish has been added to your project." appears, and the editor switches to Spanish. If some texts couldn't be translated, click Review untranslated texts in the finished window. See How to review and edit translations.

Buy a slot while adding a language

  1. In the Purchase Language Slot window, check the price. It shows the amount charged today (or on your next invoice) and the recurring price after that. A language slot is a recurring subscription; you can cancel it in Workspace settings → Extra Languages.

  1. Click Purchase & Assign.
  2. If TeleportHQ can add the slot to your existing subscription, it does so right away, and the Add Spanish inside the project window opens. Continue with step 2 above.
  3. If Stripe Checkout opens instead, complete the payment. Back in the editor, TeleportHQ checks the payment, assigns the slot and adds the language for you, without the Add Spanish inside the project window. When Auto-translate content in the language menu is ticked (it is by default), it translates your pages and your booking items, and places a language switcher where it can. It doesn't translate blog posts, Help Center articles or store products on this path: translate those afterwards.

Check that it worked

  • The language menu lists the new language, and the slot count goes up, for example "1 / 1 language slots used". The count covers your whole workspace.
  • Click the new language in the menu to see and edit that version of your site.
  • On your live site, the new language appears after you publish. See How URLs and SEO work on a multilingual site.

Troubleshooting

"Failed to purchase language slot. Please try again." The purchase didn't go through. TeleportHQ shows the same message on a trial, because trial workspaces can't buy language slots: subscribe to Pro or Premium, then add the language again. Only workspace owners and admins can buy slots, so also check your role.

"Language slot purchased but could not be assigned automatically. Please assign it from workspace settings." You paid, but the slot wasn't linked yet. Workspace settings → Extra Languages lists it under Unassigned, but has no button to assign it. Add the language again: TeleportHQ uses the free slot instead of asking you to pay. If it still fails, write to hello@teleporthq.io.

"Language added, but its subscription slot could not be assigned. You can assign it from workspace settings." The language is in your project, but no slot is linked to it yet, and publishing may be blocked. Reload the editor: when TeleportHQ reads your slots again, it links a free slot to a language that needs one. If publishing still fails, write to hello@teleporthq.io.

"Spanish will be added as a copy of English — your workspace does not have enough tokens to translate it. Top up, then translate the content from each panel." TeleportHQ adds the language with your main-language text. Buy AI tokens, then translate the content. See How to translate your site automatically and How to buy more AI tokens.

"None of the … texts could be translated" or "… texts of … could not be translated and kept the English copy" Some or all of the AI translation failed. Check your connection and token balance, then translate the missing texts from Manage Content. See How to review and edit translations.

"Spanish is still being added. Wait for it to finish before adding French." or "Your project is still being translated into German. Wait for it to finish before adding French." TeleportHQ adds or changes one language at a time. The second message means someone changed the project's language and its content is being translated. Wait for the first one to finish.

"Some booking items were not translated. Open them in the Bookings panel to translate them again." The language was added, but some of your bookable items kept your main-language text. Open those items in the Bookings panel and translate them there.

"Language already exists inside this project" The language is already on your site. Pick it in the language menu to edit it.

"Your current role does not have enough permissions to add new languages" Ask a workspace owner or admin to add the language, or to change your role.

"Failed to add language. Please try again." Something went wrong while adding. Reload the editor and try again.

Good to know

  • One language slot covers one language in one project. A project in English, French and German needs 2 slots.
  • Adding a language to a project with an admin panel asks you to regenerate the admin panel pages, so they get translation fields.
  • If your project has an AI assistant chat, its welcome message and its answer for unknown questions are translated too.
  • A store's orders remember the language the customer used, so store emails go out in that language.

How to make your site available in several languages

In TeleportHQ, you make a site multilingual from the language button at the top left of the canvas by clicking Enable internationalization and choosing a main language; each extra language then needs a paid language slot (no plan includes one), and code downloads become limited to Next.js and HTML.

How to buy extra language slots

In TeleportHQ, every language besides a project's main language needs a language slot, a recurring add-on a Pro or Premium workspace buys; buy one while you add a language in the editor (Purchase & Assign) or in Workspace Settings → Extra Languages → Purchase Language Slot, and an unused slot is used automatically the next time you add a language.

How to translate your site automatically

TeleportHQ translates your site with AI when you add a language (Automatically translate content), keeps translations in sync when you edit text in the main language (Project settings → Editor → Preferences → Editing → Translate text elements automatically), fills missing translations from Manage Content, translates a single-language site into another language when you use Change, and follows your Glossary for brand names; translation uses AI tokens.

How to review and edit translations

In TeleportHQ, you review translations from the language button → Manage Content, where you pick a page or component and edit each text in every language side by side; you can also edit one language on the canvas, translate page titles in Page SEO Settings, and export or import the texts for a translator as CSV or XLIFF.

How to add a language switcher

In TeleportHQ, a language switcher can be placed for you when you add a language (Add a language switcher to the navigation and footer), or you add one yourself from Elements → Primitives → Interactive: lang-switcher is a dropdown, and Lang Toggle is an inline "en / es" row that highlights the active language; neither makes your website a web app.

How to change the main language or remove a language

In TeleportHQ, you manage languages from the language button at the top left of the canvas; click the … next to a language to choose Set as main language or Delete, and use Change to move a single-language site to another language, with an AI translation of its content if you want one; deleting a language removes its translations for good and frees its slot, which keeps billing until you cancel it.
