How to buy extra language slots

How to buy extra language slots

In TeleportHQ, each project's main language is free. Every other language, for example German on an English site, needs a language slot: a recurring add-on that a Pro or Premium workspace buys. You can buy one while you add the language in the editor (Purchase & Assign), or ahead of time in Workspace Settings → Extra Languages → Purchase Language Slot. When the workspace already has an unused slot, adding a language uses it without asking you to pay.

Before you start

  • You need an active Pro or Premium subscription. A TeleportHQ trial can't buy language slots, so it can't add a second language. A plan that's set to end can't buy them either: resume it first.
  • Don't turn on internationalization during a trial. A trial can switch it on, but turning it off again means restoring the automatic backup Before Internationalization Enabled, and backups aren't included in the trial: you'd have to write to hello@teleporthq.io and ask support to restore it. Subscribe first.
  • You must be the workspace owner or an admin. The Extra Languages tab in Workspace Settings is shown only to the owner.
  • One slot = one extra language in one project. A site in English, German and French needs 2 slots.
  • For prices, see the TeleportHQ pricing page. The purchase window shows the exact amount.

Option A: buy a slot while adding a language in the editor

  1. In the editor, click the language button at the top left of the canvas.
  2. Click Add language.
  3. Click the language you want, for example Spanish. See How to add a language.
  4. If the workspace has no unused slot, the Purchase Language Slot window opens: "You have no available language slots. A new slot needs to be purchased to add" the language "to this project." Check the Price: and Charged today: (or Charged on your next invoice: for a very small amount).
  5. Click Purchase & Assign.
  6. If Stripe's checkout page opens, complete the payment. Back in the editor, TeleportHQ assigns the new slot to the language and adds it to your project.

If the workspace already has an unused slot, no purchase window appears. The Add Spanish inside the project window (named after your language) opens straight away, and TeleportHQ links the unused slot to the new language.

Option B: buy a slot from Workspace Settings

  1. In the left sidebar of the dashboard, point at your workspace under WORKSPACES and click the ⋯ at the end of its row.
  2. Click Extra Languages. (You can also click Manage under the workspace name, then Extra Languages.)
  3. Click Purchase Language Slot.

The Extra Languages tab in TeleportHQ Workspace Settings, with the languages used, Purchased language slots and the Purchase Language Slot button highlighted
  4. The Purchase Extra Language Slot window opens. Under Current Language Usage it shows your Purchased language slots:, any Unassigned slots:, and After purchase:. Under Add 1 extra language slot it shows the Price: and Charged today:.

  5. Click Purchase, then complete Stripe's checkout page if it opens.
  6. Add the language in the editor. TeleportHQ uses the new slot instead of asking you to pay.

A slot you buy here for a language a project already has is linked to that language automatically the next time TeleportHQ reads your slots, for example when you open the editor or the Extra Languages tab.

Check that it worked

After a payment on Stripe's page, a message says "Language subscription added successfully!" On the Extra Languages tab, Purchased language slots: goes up by one. Slots in use are listed under Language Slots, grouped by project, with the language name. A slot that no language uses yet is listed under Unassigned as Available.

Troubleshooting

"Publishing failed: you have more languages in this project than active subscription slots. Purchase an extra language slot or remove a language from the project to continue publishing." The project has more extra languages than slots linked to it. Buy a slot, or remove a language. See How to change the main language or remove a language.

On a trial, choosing a language opens the Upgrade workspace window instead of the purchase window TeleportHQ trial workspaces can't buy language slots, so the window says "Additional project languages are only available on paid plans. Upgrade your workspace to enable this feature." Subscribe to Pro or Premium in that window, then add the language again.

"Failed to purchase language slot. Please try again." The purchase didn't go through. Check that you're the owner or an admin and that the plan isn't set to end, then try again. When TeleportHQ knows the reason, the message shows it instead.

"Language slot purchased but could not be assigned automatically. Please assign it from workspace settings." You paid, but the slot wasn't linked to the language yet. The Extra Languages tab has no button to assign a slot. Instead, add the language again in the editor: TeleportHQ uses the unused slot without asking you to pay. If publishing still fails, write to hello@teleporthq.io.

"Language added, but its subscription slot could not be assigned. You can assign it from workspace settings." The language is in your project, but no slot is linked to it yet. Reload the editor or open the Extra Languages tab: when TeleportHQ reads your slots, it links an unused slot to a language that needs one.

The Cancel Slot button is greyed out ("Remove this language from the project first to cancel the subscription") A slot that a language uses can't be cancelled. Remove the language from the project first.

How to cancel a language slot

  1. Remove the language from the project, if a project uses it. The slot moves to Unassigned.
  2. Open Workspace Settings → Extra Languages.
  3. Under Unassigned, click Cancel Slot next to the slot.
  4. In the Cancel Language Subscription window, click Cancel Subscription.

The slot stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and shows "Cancels on" and the date. Before then, click Renew to keep it.

Good to know

  • Language slots follow your plan's billing cycle: monthly on a monthly plan, yearly on a yearly plan.
  • Slots belong to the workspace. An unused slot can be used by any project in the workspace.
  • Cloning a multilingual project into a workspace without enough slots offers Clone without languages.
  • If your plan ends, the language slots billed with it end too.

What add-ons can I buy? (domains, languages, web app slots, editor seats)

On a TeleportHQ Pro or Premium plan you can add extra custom domains, extra languages, Web App slots and extra editor seats; each one is a recurring add-on that follows your plan's monthly or yearly billing, and the workspace owner manages it in Workspace Settings.

How to add a language

In TeleportHQ, you add a language from the language button at the top left of the canvas → Add language; every language besides the main one needs a language slot (no plan includes one), which a Pro or Premium workspace can buy and assign in the same step, and TeleportHQ can translate your content and place a language switcher with AI as it adds the language.

How to make your site available in several languages

In TeleportHQ, you make a site multilingual from the language button at the top left of the canvas by clicking Enable internationalization and choosing a main language; each extra language then needs a paid language slot (no plan includes one), and code downloads become limited to Next.js and HTML.

How to change the main language or remove a language

In TeleportHQ, you manage languages from the language button at the top left of the canvas; click the … next to a language to choose Set as main language or Delete, and use Change to move a single-language site to another language, with an AI translation of its content if you want one; deleting a language removes its translations for good and frees its slot, which keeps billing until you cancel it.

Publishing failed: what should I do?

When publishing a TeleportHQ site fails, the message names the reason - a build error (read the Build Logs in the Deployments tab), a page, component or style the code can't use, a plan limit such as forms, language slots or a Web App slot, a workflow security problem, private files, or a temporary error you can retry - and your live site stays as it was.
