How to upload images, videos and files
To upload a file in TeleportHQ, open the Assets Manager in the left sidebar, go to Uploads, click + on the Public folder and choose Upload Assets. You can also drag files from your computer anywhere onto the editor. The files appear in the folder, and you can add them to your pages from there.
Before you start
- Check that your file type is supported and fits your plan's size limit. See Which files can I upload, and how big can they be?
- Uploading videos and 3D models (.glb) needs a trial or paid plan.
- Font files are uploaded in Project settings (the cog at the bottom of the left sidebar) → Appearance → Fonts, not here. See How to upload your own fonts.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click the folder icon (tooltip Assets Manager).
- Click the Uploads tab.
On the Public folder row, click + (tooltip Upload assets or create folders). To upload into one of your own folders, point at that folder and click its +.
In the menu, click Upload Assets.
- Pick one or more files on your computer. For example,
bakery-storefront.jpgandmenu.pdf. - Wait while the drop area shows Uploading.... The files then appear in the folder.
Other ways to upload:
- Drag files from your computer anywhere onto the editor. They go into the folder under your mouse pointer, or into Public.
- Click the Drop files here / or use the + icon area at the top of the Public folder. It opens the same file picker.
- Copy a picture (for example, a screenshot) and paste it on the canvas with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac). TeleportHQ shows "Adding the pasted image…", saves it in Public (named
pasted-image, for examplepasted-image.png) and places it in the selected element, or on the page when nothing is selected.
Check that it worked
Your files are listed in the folder with their size. Point at an image to see a larger preview. To place it on a page, see How to add and replace images or How to add a video from your computer.
TeleportHQ doesn't show a message when an upload works. It only shows a warning when a file is heavy for a web page (see below).
The heavy-file warning
After an upload, TeleportHQ checks each file's weight for a web page. If one file is heavy, a warning names it and says why, for example:
"hero-video.mp4" is 12 MB. Videos are not compressed when published: visitors download the whole file.
If several files are heavy, the warning starts with "3 uploaded files are heavy for a web page:" and lists each file with its size.
The upload still worked: the warning is advice, not an error. A heavy file slows down every page that shows it. To make it lighter, or to see which heavy files a page uses, see How to find files that slow down your page.
Troubleshooting
Dropping a .zip file started an import instead of an upload Dropping a .zip onto the editor imports it as a website. To store a zip file as a download, use + → Upload Assets instead.
"The format of the upload is not supported. Please upload only … files." The file type isn't allowed. Convert it to a supported format, for example .heic to .jpg.
"Upload failed. The extension of your file does not match its content. Please check your file." The file's name ends in one type but the file is another, or a JSON, YAML or CSS file has errors. Save the file again in the right format and upload it.
"Upload failed. We cannot recognize the type of the file you are uploading" TeleportHQ couldn't read what kind of file it is. Open and save it again in a common format, such as .jpg or .mp4.
"Assets upload failed. Asset type file is missing." The file name has no extension. Rename it, for example logo to logo.png.
"Asset name cannot contain * : " ' | < > ? / `" Rename the file on your computer without those characters.
"Cannot upload video files" Video uploads need a trial or paid plan. Click Upgrade now, or use a free Pexels video instead. See How to use free stock photos and videos (Unsplash, Pexels).
"Custom Font file detected" "Custom Font files can only be added from Project Settings." Click Go to Project Settings, or click Cancel and follow How to upload your own fonts.
"Select a single element to paste an image into." You pasted a picture while several elements were selected. Select one element, or none, and paste again.
"The pasted image was added to your assets, but could not be placed here." The selected element can't hold a picture, or you selected something else while it uploaded. The picture is in the Public folder: add it from there.

Good to know
- TeleportHQ changes file names to lowercase, replaces
(and)with[and], and adds a number if the name is already used in the folder. - If a file's extension doesn't match its content, TeleportHQ corrects the extension where it can, before uploading.
- There is no "replace file" option for images, videos or documents. Upload the new file and point your elements to it.
- Pasted pictures go through the same checks as other uploads: your plan's limits, the file-type check and the heavy-file warning.
