Why does my web app need a slot, and what is the 7-day window?

In TeleportHQ, each web app needs its own Web App slot to keep publishing and running. A web app that isn't covered by a slot gets 7 days of full access, with a TeleportHQ watermark on the published site. After 7 days its site goes offline and the project is archived. It stays archived until you add a slot to it, and it's never deleted. Websites never need a slot.

What a Web App slot is

A TeleportHQ Web App slot is a subscription that covers one web app, so it can build, publish and run its workflows, user accounts and data. Websites (projects without web app features) don't need a slot, even when they use pop-ups, show/hide effects or browser widgets. See What is a web app in TeleportHQ?

  • A slot is bound to one project. You can reassign it to a different web app later from workspace settings.
  • Your plan may include slots: Trial: 1, Premium: 1, Pro: 0.
  • Every paid plan can buy extra slots. Each slot also adds 1 custom domain to your workspace.
  • A web app covered by a slot has no caps on workflows, custom nodes or runtime file storage.

Prices are on the TeleportHQ pricing page. To buy, assign or cancel one, see How to buy, assign or cancel a web app slot.

The TeleportHQ web app timeline without a slot

The countdown starts when a web app isn't covered by a slot. For example, when you create a second web app in a Premium workspace, or when a slot you cancelled reaches the end of its paid period.

WhenWhat happens
Days 1–7: full accessYou can edit, preview and publish to TeleportHQ (with a TeleportHQ watermark). Workflows and scheduled workflows run. About 2 days before the end, TeleportHQ sends a reminder email.
After day 7: archivedTeleportHQ removes the site's deployments, so it goes offline. Publishing and workflows stop, and the project is archived.
Later: still archivedThe project stays archived until a slot is bound to it. TeleportHQ never deletes it.

Binding a slot to the project at any point keeps it, or brings an archived web app back. Web apps can't download or export code at any stage.

Where TeleportHQ shows the countdown

  • In the editor, at the bottom of the screen: a banner that says "This web app has full access — including publishing with a TeleportHQ watermark — but needs its own subscription to keep it. Without one, its site goes offline and the project is archived in N days (date)." It has Preview and Subscribe project buttons, and a close button.
  • In the editor header: after you close the banner, a warning chip stays at the top left, for example Subscription required — 5 days left. Click it to open the same window as Subscribe project.
  • In the Workflows panel: "Workflows run free for 7 days — this project needs a Web App slot subscription to keep running after that.", with a Subscribe project button.
  • On the dashboard: the project card has an amber Subscription required chip, and its status line reads "Site goes offline in N days" with the date. Point at the chip to read "Full access for now — it needs a slot to stay online." Once the project is archived, the chip turns red, the line reads "Archived until a slot covers it", and the chip says "This web app needs a slot to come back online."

How to keep your web app

  1. In the TeleportHQ editor, click Subscribe project in the banner, or click the Subscription required chip in the header.
  2. A window opens. Its title depends on your plan:
    • Buy a Web App slot: click Buy a slot.
    • Upgrade to Premium or buy a slot (Pro plan): click Upgrade to Premium, which includes one web app, or Buy a slot instead.
    • Upgrade to keep building (for example, a trial or an ended plan): click Upgrade workspace.
    • Build this in a Premium workspace: click Create a Premium workspace.
  3. Complete the payment on the checkout page. A slot is a recurring subscription that renews with your workspace's billing.
  4. Back in the editor, TeleportHQ checks that the project is covered and shows "Web App slot active — this project can now build, publish and run." If the project was published before, TeleportHQ republishes it without the watermark ("Republishing your project without the watermark…") and reconnects its custom domain.
The TeleportHQ Upgrade to Premium or buy a slot window of a Pro workspace, with the Upgrade to Premium and Buy a slot instead buttons highlighted

If you already have an unused slot, the dashboard shows "You have a paid Web App slot that isn't covering any project." Click Assign it to a project.

Troubleshooting

"Publishing is blocked: this web app is over your team’s Web App quota. Buy a Web App slot to publish and run it." The 7 days of full access are over. Buy or assign a slot, then publish again.

"Your slot is active, but the automatic republish failed. Publish the project manually to bring the site back online." Open the Publish window and publish the web app yourself. See How to publish a web app.

My web app is covered again, but the site is still offline Buying a slot republishes a previously published web app for you. Assigning a slot you already have doesn't: open the project and publish it. If you used a custom domain, check that it's connected again. See Why is my published site offline?

"Web App slots are not available on this plan. Upgrade the workspace to build web apps." Your workspace can't buy slots on its current plan. Subscribe to Pro or Premium first. See What's the difference between Trial, Pro and Premium?

Good to know

  • Cancelling a slot doesn't stop the project right away. It stays covered until the end of the period you've paid for; then the 7-day countdown starts.
  • Only the workspace owner or an admin can buy slots or change the plan. Other members see: "Only the workspace owner or an admin can manage Web App slots and the plan."
  • A trial workspace can have 1 project, which its included slot covers.

What is a web app in TeleportHQ?

In TeleportHQ, a web app is a project that uses server features (workflows, user sign-in, a store, bookings, a blog or help center, an admin panel, an AI chatbot); it publishes from TeleportHQ, can't be downloaded as code, and needs a Web App slot to keep running after 7 days, while show/hide, pop-ups and browser widgets work in websites too.

How to buy, assign or cancel a web app slot

A TeleportHQ Web App slot keeps one web app online and running; buy one in Workspace Settings → Web Apps → Buy a slot (or Keep this project next to a web app that's running out of time), give an unused slot to a project with Assign to…, and stop paying with Cancel slot.

How to publish a web app

You publish a TeleportHQ web app like a website, with Publish → Publish to Production; a web app not covered by a Web App slot can publish with a TeleportHQ watermark for 7 days, after which it needs a slot to stay online.

Why is my published site offline?

A published TeleportHQ site goes offline when someone clicks Unpublish site in the Publish window, the workspace's trial or subscription ends (TeleportHQ then removes every deployment and custom domain), a web app passes its 7-day window without a Web App slot, the custom domain's DNS isn't set up, or the project is deleted; the Publish window and the dashboard card show which one.

What's the difference between Trial, Pro and Premium?

TeleportHQ has three plans. Trial is a free 7-day test of the whole product on 1 project, Pro is a paid plan for unlimited websites with private projects, a custom domain and code download, and Premium adds one included web app, more AI tokens, more storage and unlimited forms.

Publishing failed: what should I do?

When publishing a TeleportHQ site fails, the message names the reason - a build error (read the Build Logs in the Deployments tab), a page, component or style the code can't use, a plan limit such as forms, language slots or a Web App slot, a workflow security problem, private files, or a temporary error you can retry - and your live site stays as it was.
