How to add authors to your posts and articles

In TeleportHQ, your Blog and your Help Center share one list of authors. To add someone, open Blog Settings (the gear in the Blog panel), click Authors next to Author Box, click Add Author, fill in the name, photo and bio, and click Add Author. Then pick that person in a post's Author field, or credit many posts at once with Set author… in the posts list.

Before you start

Steps

1. Add an author to the list

  1. In the left sidebar, click Blog (or Help Center).
  2. At the top of the panel, click Blog Settings (the gear). In the Help Center, it's Help Center Settings.
  3. Under Post page (Article page in the Help Center), find Author Box and click Authors next to it. The link works whether the box is switched on or off.

  1. The Authors panel opens beside the settings. Click Add Author.
  2. Under New author, click Choose photo and pick a picture from Upload, Project Assets or Unsplash.
  3. In Name, type the author's name, for example Ana Popescu. A name is required.
  4. Optional: in Email, type their address. It's never shown on your site.
  5. Optional: in Bio, write a few words about them, for example Head baker at Hearth & Crumb. The bio shows in the author box under each post.
  6. Click Add Author. The message "Ana Popescu was added to the authors list." appears.

2. Choose a default author

The default author is the one new and imported posts start with.

  1. In the Authors panel, click Make default on the author's row. A Default badge appears next to their name.
  2. To stop using a default, click Unset default.

When posts without an author exist, the panel says how many, for example "3 posts credit no author.", with a button Give them to Ana Popescu…. Click it, then click Give 3 to Ana Popescu to credit all of them.

3. Pick a post's author

  1. In the Blog panel, click the post (or click + to write a new one).
  2. Under Author, open the list and choose the author. The default author shows "(default)" after their name.
  3. Click Save Changes (or Create Post for a new post).

The Author list has two more choices:

  • Custom author (this post only): shows Author Avatar, Author Name, Author Email and Author Bio fields for someone who isn't on the list. Click Save to authors list to add them to the list after all.
  • No author: the post credits nobody.

4. Set the author of several posts at once

In the Blog panel, tick the posts, click Set author… and choose the author, or No author. It replaces the author of every ticked post. See How to publish, move or delete several posts at once.

Check that it worked

  • The post's Author field shows the author you picked.
  • On the post page, the author box shows the author's photo, name and bio, as long as Author Box is switched on in Blog Settings.

Change or remove an author

  • Change: in the Authors panel, click Edit on the row, change the details and click Save Author. Every post that credits them follows, and TeleportHQ says how many, for example "Ana Popescu saved. 4 pages that credit them were updated."
  • Remove: click Remove. The person leaves the list, but posts that credit them keep them as their author.
