How to write and publish a blog post
In TeleportHQ, you write a blog post in the Blog panel: click + (New Post), type a title and your content, leave the status on Published and click Create Post. Only posts with the Published status appear on your site. Once your blog pages are published, new and edited posts show on your live site within seconds, without publishing the project again. Help Center articles are written the same way, in the Help Center panel.
Before you start
- Your project needs an active blog. See How to add a blog to your site. For a help center, see How to add a help center to your site.
Steps
1. Create the post
- In the left sidebar, click Blog. If you don't see it, click Plugins, click Blog, then click Open next to Blog panel.
- At the top of the Blog panel, click + (New Post). If you have no posts yet, click Create Post instead. The New Blog Post panel opens.
- Under Post Images, click Add Image and choose a picture from Upload, Project Assets or Unsplash. You can also drop pictures from your computer onto Post Images. The first picture is the post's main image (Main). Pictures after it form a gallery on the post page.
- In Title, type the post title, for example
How we bake our sourdough. The Slug (the end of the post's web address) fills in by itself. - In Excerpt, type a one- or two-sentence summary. It appears on the post's card in your blog list.
- In Content, write the post. See "Format your post" below.
- Optional: pick Categories (Add category), type Tags, add Related Posts, and choose the Author. See How to add authors to your posts and articles.
- Check Status. A new post starts as Published.
- At the bottom, click Create Post. The message "Blog post created successfully!" appears, the panel closes, and the canvas shows your new post on the post page.
2. Format your post
The Content toolbar in the TeleportHQ blog editor has these buttons: Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Inline code, Link, Bullet list, Ordered list, Blockquote, Insert a table, Insert a code block, Insert a callout — a note, a tip, a warning, Insert image and the embed button. At its right edge are Expand editor (a bigger window to write in) and MD.
- Paste from another document. Copy from Google Docs, Word, Notion or a web page and paste into Content. TeleportHQ keeps the headings, bold, italic, underline, links, lists, quotes, code, tables and pictures. Fonts, sizes and colors are left to your site's post styles. Pictures in the paste are uploaded to your project.
- Edit as Markdown. Click MD ("Markdown view: see and edit the content as Markdown"). The content turns into Markdown text you can edit or paste into. The formatting buttons are off meanwhile. Click MD again to go back to the formatted view.
- Add a callout. Click Insert a callout — a note, a tip, a warning, then choose Note, Tip, Important, Warning or Caution.
- Add a video, social post, map or form. Click the embed button (tooltip Add an embed — a video, a social post, a map, a form). On Paste a link, paste an address such as a YouTube link. Or, on Embed code, paste the code the other site gave you. Choose the width and alignment, then click Insert embed. Recognized links include YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Spotify, SoundCloud, X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, Google Maps, Google Forms, Figma, Canva, Calendly and Typeform. Any other
https://address is embedded as a web page.
3. Place pictures in the text
- Click Insert image and choose a picture, or drop a picture file straight into the text where you want it ("Adding a picture…" shows while it uploads).
- Click the picture in the text. A toolbar opens under it.
- Choose where it sits:
- Left or Right: the text runs beside the picture while it's up to 50% wide, and below it when it's wider.
- Center: the text continues below the picture.
- Own row (with Left or Right): keeps the text below the picture at any width.
- Pick a width: 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%, or drag the handle on the picture's right edge.
- Click Alt to type a short description for visitors who can't see the picture.
Pictures you add, drop or paste are uploaded to a blog folder inside Public in the Assets Manager.
4. Find, edit, unpublish or delete a post
- In the Blog panel, click the post. The Edit Blog Post panel opens.
- Make your changes. To hide the post from your site, set Status to Draft or Archived.
- Click Save Changes.
To see a post on the canvas, double-click it in the Blog panel, or click View on Canvas in its panel. The canvas opens the post page with that post, and the post moves to the top of the list with the tag On canvas.
To delete a post, click the trash button on its row (Delete post). In the Delete Blog Post window, click Delete Post. Deleting can't be undone. To publish, move or delete several posts at once, see How to publish, move or delete several posts at once.
Check that it worked
- In the Blog panel, the post has a Published badge.
- On your live site, the post appears at the top of
/blogwithin a few seconds. If the blog pages were never published, publish your project once first. - On the published post, each heading links to its own place on the page, so readers can share a link straight to a section. A
#shows when they point at a heading. Turn this off with Heading Links in Blog Settings.
Troubleshooting
"A post with this slug already exists" Two posts can't share the same web address. Change the Slug, for example by adding -2.
"Title is required" Type a title. The Create Post button stays off until Title has text.
"That address cannot be embedded. Switch to Embed code and paste the snippet the site gave you." The link isn't a full web address, or the site can't be embedded from a link. Copy the embed code from the site's Share or Embed option and paste it on the Embed code tab.
The post doesn't appear on my live site Only Published posts are shown. See Why isn't my blog post showing on my site?
Good to know
| Status | What visitors see |
|---|---|
| Published | The post is live on your blog. |
| Draft | Hidden. Use it for posts you're still writing. |
| Scheduled | Hidden until its publishing date, then published automatically. See How to schedule a blog post. |
| Archived | Hidden. Use it to retire an old post. |
- Posts written with + start as Published. Posts the AI Assistant writes start as Draft unless you ask it to publish them.
- Creation date sets the post's place in your blog: newest posts come first. Change it to place older articles in the right order. With Manual Order on (the Help Center starts with it on), your own order decides instead, and a new post goes to its end: click Reorder in the panel to move it. See How to put posts or articles in your own order.
- Reading Time (minutes) is calculated from your text (about 200 words per minute) until you type your own value.
- In a draft or archived post, a Publish button at the top of the Edit Blog Post panel publishes it in one click.
- Double-click a post's title, excerpt or text on the canvas to open that post's panel on the matching field.
- When blog comments are on, each post has an Allow Comments switch.
- The Issues window lists links in your posts that lead nowhere.
- There is no limit on the number of posts.
In the Help Center, the same panel is called New Help Center Article or Edit Help Center Article, pictures go under Article Images, the button is Create Article, and pictures upload to a help-center folder. Help Center articles have no comments. Schedule works for them as for posts: on the TeleportHQ database, a scheduled article publishes itself at its date.
