How to connect an email or SMS sending service

The TeleportHQ Marketing Studio doesn't send email or text messages from its own account. It sends them through your own account with a sending service. For email, open Email → Settings in the Marketing Studio, pick SendGrid, Resend, Mailgun, Postmark or MailerSend, and paste your API key and sender address. For SMS, set up Twilio, TextMagic, Infobip or SMSAPI in an SMS campaign's Provider step, or in Project settings → Credentials → SMS Providers.

Before you start

  • Plan and setup. The Marketing Studio needs a Trial, Pro or Premium workspace and sign-up and login turned on. See What is the Marketing Studio?.
  • An account with a sending service. Sign up with the service first and create an API key (or token) there. The service bills you for the messages you send, not TeleportHQ.
  • A verified sender. Most email services only send from an address or domain you have verified with them, for example hello@mybakery.com. Set this up in the service's dashboard. TeleportHQ saves the address you type and doesn't check it with the service: an unverified sender shows up only when an email fails.

Connect an email service

  1. In the editor's left sidebar, click Growth, then Marketing Studio.
  2. In the studio menu, click Email.
  3. At the top right, click Settings (the gear button left of Create email, tooltip Email settings).

  4. The Email settings window opens. Click the card of your service: SendGrid, Resend, Mailgun, Postmark or MailerSend. The card you click becomes your project's email service. Open dashboard on a card opens the page where that service shows your keys.
  5. Fill in the fields for that service:

    ServiceFields
    SendGridAPI Key
    ResendAPI Key
MailgunAPI Key and Domain (for example mg.mybakery.com)
    PostmarkServer Token
    MailerSendAPI Key
  6. Fill in From email (for example hello@mybakery.com) and, if you like, From name (optional) (for example Sunny Bakery).
  7. Click outside each field after typing. TeleportHQ saves each value when you leave the field.
  8. When the line at the top says "Your email provider is connected and ready to send.", click Done.

The Email settings window shows:

  1. The status line: "Connect an email provider to start sending emails." until every field without "optional" is filled in.
  2. The service cards. A connected one shows Connected.
  3. The fields of the service you picked.

Connect an SMS service

You can connect an SMS service in two places.

While you create an SMS campaign:

  1. In the Marketing Studio, click Campaigns, then New campaign.
  2. Click SMS campaign, then click Next until you reach the Provider step: "Choose the SMS provider to send through."
  3. Click the card of your service and fill in its fields:

    ServiceFields
TwilioAccount SID, Auth Token, Sender number (for example +1234567890)
    TextMagicUsername, API Key, Sender (optional)
    InfobipAPI Key, Sender (optional)
    SMSAPIAccess Token, Sender (optional)
  4. Click outside each field after typing, so TeleportHQ saves it. The card shows Connected.

See How to create an email or SMS campaign.

In Project settings:

  1. At the bottom of the editor's left sidebar, click the Project settings cog.
  2. Under Credentials, click SMS Providers.
  3. Click your service's card to open it, fill in its fields and click Save credentials. The first service you set up becomes the project's SMS service. To switch to another one later, open it and click Use for this project.

Email Providers, in the same Credentials group, holds the same email settings as Email → Settings. See How to choose which email and SMS provider your project sends through.

Check that it worked

The service's card shows a Connected badge. In Email settings, the status reads "Your email provider is connected and ready to send." To test email, send a copy of a newsletter to your own address: see How to send an email newsletter.

Good to know

  • One service for everything. "This provider is shared across your campaigns, standalone emails and workflow email steps — set it once here and it's used everywhere." See How to send emails and text messages from a workflow.
  • Your keys are stored as project secrets. "Secrets are encrypted and stored on your project. Paste a value or pick an existing secret." See How to keep passwords and API keys safe (Secrets).
  • Disconnect an email service in Email settings with the Disconnect link under its fields (for example Disconnect Resend), then confirm with Disconnect. This removes its key and sender details from your project.
  • Disconnect an SMS service in Project settings → Credentials → SMS Providers: open its card and click Disconnect.
  • Switching services changes where every future email or SMS is sent from.

Troubleshooting

"Connect an email provider to start sending emails." A required field is empty. Fill in every field without "optional", including From email, and click outside the field.

A campaign says "Heads up: connect your Email provider so this campaign can actually send." (or SMS) The campaign was created without a connected service. Connect one with the steps above, or click Set up provider to send on the campaign's card.

The Next button stays greyed out on a campaign's Provider step You started filling in a service's fields but left a required one empty. Fill in every field without "optional", and click outside it. A service with no fields filled in doesn't block the step: the campaign is then saved as missing configuration and won't send until you connect the service.

Emails don't arrive Check that the From email is verified with your service, and look at the service's own activity log for rejected messages. In TeleportHQ, Email → Activity shows each email's delivery status.
