How to leave and reply to comments

How to leave and reply to comments

In the TeleportHQ editor, comments let you and your collaborators leave feedback pinned to an element, a page or a component. Right-click an element, choose Add Comment, type your message and press Enter. To reply or resolve, open the comment on the canvas or in the Comments panel. TeleportHQ doesn't send comment notifications by email, only inside the editor.

Before you start

  • Who can comment. Everyone invited to the workspace or to the project can comment, whatever their role, Viewers and Limited Viewers included. To let a client comment for free, invite them to the project as a Viewer. See How to invite someone to one project.
  • People with only a link. Anyone looking at a shared link without an invitation can read comments, but their own comments aren't saved.
  • Comments aren't limited by plan.

Add a comment

  1. Open the project in the TeleportHQ editor.
  2. On the canvas, select the element you want to comment on, for example a page's main headline. You can also click its row in the layers tree (Pages, Components & Tree View in the left sidebar).
  3. Right-click the element and click Add Comment.
The right-click menu of an element in the TeleportHQ editor, with Add Comment highlighted
  1. The Add Comment window opens, with the placeholder Add comment to "<element>". An element without a name of its own is called by its kind, for example "component" for a component you dropped on the page. Type your comment, for example Make this headline bigger. To mention someone, type @ and pick their name.

  1. Press Enter to send. (Shift+Enter adds a new line.)

TeleportHQ shows "Comment added successfully", opens the Comments panel, and pins the comment to the element.

To comment on a whole page instead, make sure nothing is selected, open the Comments panel and click + (Add a comment). The placeholder reads Add comment to page "<page>". In a panel with no comments yet, the Add Comment button does the same.

Show or hide comments

  • In the editor's bottom toolbar, click the speech-bubble icon (Show comments). The Comments panel opens on the right, in the place of the AI Assistant, and each comment shows on the canvas as a small round picture of its author, pinned to its element. Click the icon again (Hide comments) to close them.
  • A badge on the icon shows how many unread comment threads you're involved in.
  • You can also use Project Menu → View, then Comments under Workspace.
  • While comments are shown, elements with comments also show their authors' pictures at the end of their row in the layers tree. Click one to open that comment.

Reply to a comment

  1. Click the comment's picture on the canvas, or the comment in the Comments panel. It opens with its replies.
  2. Click Add a reply... and type your reply.
  3. Press Enter.

Replying to a resolved comment reopens it.

Resolve, edit or delete a comment

When a comment is open, a check-mark button and a … button show at its top right (they also show when you point at it).

  • Resolve: click the check-mark button (Mark as resolved). It then reads "Resolved by <name> - click to unresolve". Anyone can resolve a comment.
  • Edit or delete: click …, then Edit or Delete. Only the person who wrote a comment can edit or delete it. Delete asks you to confirm. Deleting the first comment of a thread deletes its replies too.
  • Read status: in the same menu, click Mark as read or Mark as unread.

Find comments in the Comments panel

The top of the TeleportHQ Comments panel has four controls:

The top of the TeleportHQ Comments panel with 1 the + button, 2 Search Comments, 3 the filter button and 4 the … button numbered
  1. + (Add a comment): adds a comment to what's selected, or to the page when nothing is.
  2. Search Comments: finds comments by their text.
  3. The filter button opens the filter menu:
    • Sort by date or Sort by unread (the default).
    • Only my threads or Only current page.
    • Resolution status: Unresolved (the default), Resolved or Both. Active filters show above the list. Click Clear all to remove them.
  4. The … button opens Mark all as read and the Notification settings: All notifications, Mentions and replies (the default) or No notifications. These control the messages shown inside the editor.

Check that it worked

Your comment shows in the Comments panel and on the canvas. Collaborators who have the project open get an in-editor message such as "<name> left a comment on <element> in <page>", with a View Comment button.

Troubleshooting

"You can only add a comment to one node at a time" Several elements are selected. Select only one element, then add the comment.

"Please enter a comment" The comment box is empty. Type your message before pressing Enter.

"The server rejected one of your edits, so it was not saved. Reload the editor to continue safely." Your comment wasn't saved, usually because you opened the project from a shared link without being invited to it (see Before you start). Click Reload editor.

A comment says "Bound element deleted" The element the comment was pinned to has been deleted. The comment is kept so you can still read it.

"An error occurred while processing the comment" The comment wasn't saved. Check your connection and try again.

Good to know

  • No email notifications. TeleportHQ doesn't email anyone about comments or @mentions. People see new comments only when they open the project. If something is urgent, tell your collaborator another way.
  • Comments stay in the editor. They never appear on your published site.

How to edit a project together in real time

In TeleportHQ, everyone with access can open the same project at once and see each other's changes live; collaborators' avatars appear at the top right of the editor, clicking one follows that person, and clicking your own avatar brings everyone to the page you have open.

How to invite someone to one project

In the TeleportHQ editor, click Share at the top right, type the person's email in Add email, pick a role and click Send invite; they get access to that project only, and on Pro and Premium an editing role may add a paid editor seat.

What can each role do? (Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer)

TeleportHQ has six roles (Owner, Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer and Limited Viewer); Owner, Admin, Designer and Editor can edit and use an editor seat, Viewers are free and read-only, and the Editor role can't publish, view code, edit components or see every page by default.

A tour of the TeleportHQ editor

The TeleportHQ editor has a header with the Project Menu, Share, Code and Publish, a left sidebar of panels such as Elements, Pages, Plugins and Growth with the Project settings cog at the bottom, a canvas in the middle, a right panel that shows the Design Language or the selected element's styles, and a floating toolbar at the bottom with Preview, Backups and Support.

Why can't I select an element someone else is editing?

In TeleportHQ, an element is locked for everyone else while a collaborator is actively changing it (typing, resizing, dragging, adjusting spacing, or while the AI Assistant, a translation or Tailor this project works on it); it shows a grey cover with their name, or Translating..., and unlocks by itself when they finish.
