How to edit a project together in real time

In TeleportHQ, several people can work in the same project at the same time. Every change appears for everyone straight away, with no saving or refreshing. The avatars of the people currently in the project show at the top right of the editor, left of Share. Click someone's avatar to follow them to the page and element they're working on, or click your own avatar to bring everyone to the page you have open.

Before you start

See who's in the project

  1. Open the project in the TeleportHQ editor.
  2. In the top bar, on the right, look left of the Public or Private label and Share. Your own avatar comes first, then up to 3 collaborators, each shown with the first letter of their name.
  3. If more people are in the project, click the +N bubble to see the rest.
  4. Point at an avatar to see the person's name and role.

Follow a collaborator

  1. In the top bar, click a collaborator's avatar. An eye icon appears on it, and its tooltip says "Following".
  2. The editor opens the page or component they have open, zooms to 50%, and scrolls to what they've selected.
  3. To stop following, click the same avatar again. Following also stops when you open another page or component yourself.

Bring everyone to your page

In the top bar, click your own avatar (the first one). Every collaborator in the TeleportHQ project is taken to the page or component you have open, and you stop following anyone.

Edit at the same time

When you and your collaborators work in the same TeleportHQ project:

  • Everyone's changes appear live on everyone's screen.
  • Elements others have selected show an outline in that person's color, with their name.
  • Elements others are actively changing are locked. While someone types text, resizes, drags or changes spacing on an element, it's covered in grey with their name, and you can't select or edit it. It unlocks as soon as they finish. See Why can't I select an element someone else is editing?.
  • Undo only undoes your own changes, not your collaborators'.

Check that it worked

Ask a collaborator to change something, such as a heading's text. The change appears on your canvas within a moment, and their avatar shows in the top bar.

Troubleshooting

"Real-time collaborators limit" Too many people are connected to the project at once. Trial workspaces allow up to 24 live connections; Pro and Premium have no limit. Try again later, or ask someone to close the project.

"Connection lost. Reconnecting automatically… Your edits are paused until it is back." or "You're offline. Editing resumes when your connection returns." Your connection to TeleportHQ dropped. The project is read-only until it reconnects. See Why did the editor say "Access denied", "New project role" or "You're offline"?.

Clicking an avatar does nothing The person doesn't have a page open yet, for example because their editor is still loading the project.

Good to know

  • Avatars simplify roles. The tooltip shows the Owner as "Owner", every other editing role as "Editor", and read-only roles as "Viewer".
  • Only signed-in collaborators appear. People looking at a public view-only link without signing in don't show as avatars.
  • Leave feedback without editing by using comments. See How to leave and reply to comments.

Why can't I select an element someone else is editing?

In TeleportHQ, an element is locked for everyone else while a collaborator is actively changing it (typing, resizing, dragging, adjusting spacing, or while the AI Assistant, a translation or Tailor this project works on it); it shows a grey cover with their name, or Translating..., and unlocks by itself when they finish.

Why did the editor say "Access denied", "New project role" or "You're offline"?

These TeleportHQ editor messages mean something changed while you had the project open; "Access denied" means your access was removed, "New project role" means your role changed and the page reloads, and "You're offline" or "Connection lost" means your connection dropped and your edits are paused until it is back.

How to leave and reply to comments

In the TeleportHQ editor, right-click an element and choose Add Comment (or click + in the Comments panel), type your feedback and press Enter; replies, @mentions and Mark as resolved happen on the comment itself, and comments don't send email notifications.

How to invite someone to one project

In the TeleportHQ editor, click Share at the top right, type the person's email in Add email, pick a role and click Send invite; they get access to that project only, and on Pro and Premium an editing role may add a paid editor seat.

How to invite people to your workspace

In TeleportHQ, open Workspace Settings → Collaborators, type the person's email in Invite by email, pick a role and click Send invite; they get access to every project in the workspace straight away, and on Pro and Premium an editing role adds a paid editor seat.

What can each role do? (Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer)

TeleportHQ has six roles (Owner, Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer and Limited Viewer); Owner, Admin, Designer and Editor can edit and use an editor seat, Viewers are free and read-only, and the Editor role can't publish, view code, edit components or see every page by default.
