Working together

Why did the editor say "Access denied", "New project role" or "You're offline"?

Why did the editor say "Access denied", "New project role" or "You're offline"?

These TeleportHQ editor messages appear when something changes while you have a project open. Access denied means someone removed your access to the project or its workspace. New project role means your role was changed, and the page reloads to apply it. You're offline or Connection lost means your connection dropped: your edits are paused and the project is read-only until TeleportHQ reconnects.

"Connection lost. Reconnecting automatically… Your edits are paused until it is back."

Your connection to TeleportHQ was interrupted, for example because your Wi-Fi dropped or your computer went to sleep. A connection that comes back within 2 seconds shows no message. While this one shows, the project is read-only (the top bar shows View only instead of Share), so your work isn't lost.

  1. Wait. TeleportHQ reconnects by itself, and editing turns back on.
  2. If the message doesn't go away after a minute, check your internet connection, then reload the page.

"You're offline. Editing resumes when your connection returns."

Your browser has no internet connection. The project is read-only until the connection is back.

  1. Check that you're connected to the internet.
  2. Wait. Editing turns back on by itself when the connection returns.

If these messages appear often, see Why is the editor slow, or saying I'm offline?.

"The server rejected one of your edits, so it was not saved. Reload the editor to continue safely."

TeleportHQ refused one of your last changes, so it wasn't saved, and your screen may no longer match the saved project. Click Reload editor. The project reopens as it was saved; redo the last change if it's missing. This can happen, for example, when your role doesn't allow the change.

"Access denied"

The full message reads "Access to this project or it's workspace has been removed. You will be redirected to dashboard in a few moments...". The workspace Owner or an Admin removed you from the project or the workspace. Click Exit project, or wait about 7 seconds, and TeleportHQ takes you to your dashboard.

What to do: if you think this was a mistake, contact the person who invited you. They need to invite you again. See How to remove a member or cancel an invitation.

"New project role"

The full message reads "A new project role was assigned to your account (<Role>). We will reload the page in a few moments." The workspace Owner or an Admin changed your role, for example from Designer to Viewer. Click Reload, or wait about 5 seconds. The project reopens with your new permissions.

What to do: check what your new role can do in What can each role do?. If you need more rights, ask the Owner. See How to change a member's role.

"Deleted project"

The message reads "Unfortunately this project has been deleted by the project owner. You will be redirected to dashboard in a few moments...". The project no longer exists. Click Exit project, or wait about 5 seconds, to go back to your dashboard.

"Project restored from backup"

The message reads "This project has been restored from a backup. The page will reload to apply the changes." Someone restored an earlier version of the project. Click Reload, or wait about 5 seconds: the editor shows the restored version, and changes made after that backup are replaced. See How to back up and restore your project.

"Real-time collaborators limit"

The message reads "Unfortunately you can't access the project right now because there are too many live connections. Please try again later! You will be redirected to dashboard in a few moments..." Too many people have the project open. Trial workspaces allow up to 24 live connections at once; Pro and Premium have no limit. TeleportHQ takes you to your dashboard after about 5 seconds. Try again later.

"New version of the app available"

The message reads "A new version of the app is available. Reload the app to enjoy all the new updates." TeleportHQ was updated while you worked. Click Reload when it suits you. Your saved work isn't affected.

The editor sent me to my dashboard with no message

You probably no longer have access to the project, for example because your invitation was removed while the editor was closed. Check SHARED WITH ME on your dashboard, and contact the project's owner if the project is missing.

Good to know

  • Leaving on purpose doesn't show "Access denied". If you leave a project or workspace yourself, TeleportHQ doesn't show this message.
  • An ended subscription makes projects read-only, but doesn't show these messages. The top bar shows "Subscription ended — resubscribe to edit" (for the Owner) or "Read-only — subscription ended" (for everyone else) instead.

How to edit a project together in real time

In TeleportHQ, everyone with access can open the same project at once and see each other's changes live; collaborators' avatars appear at the top right of the editor, clicking one follows that person, and clicking your own avatar brings everyone to the page you have open.

How to remove a member or cancel an invitation

In TeleportHQ, open Workspace Settings → Collaborators, click ⋯ on the person's row, choose Delete and confirm; this removes a member's access immediately and is also the only way to cancel an invitation that hasn't been used yet.

How to change a member's role

In TeleportHQ, the workspace Owner changes a member's role in Workspace Settings → Collaborators by picking a new role in the Role column; on Pro and Premium, moving someone to an editing role adds a paid seat, and making an editor read-only frees the seat as account credit.

Why is the editor slow, or saying I'm offline?

When the TeleportHQ editor loses its live connection it shows "Connection lost. Reconnecting automatically… Your edits are paused until it is back." (or "You're offline…") and pauses editing until it reconnects by itself; other messages warn about a small window, an unsupported browser, a phone or touch screen, or too many people in the project, and reloading or using a Chromium-based browser fixes most cases.

How to back up and restore your project

In the TeleportHQ editor, click Backups in the bottom toolbar, then Backup current project state to save a snapshot, or Restore next to a backup (such as Before Web App features Enabled) to bring the project back to that point; backups need a Pro or Premium plan, trial users ask support to restore, and you must republish afterwards.

Why can't I select an element someone else is editing?

In TeleportHQ, an element is locked for everyone else while a collaborator is actively changing it (typing, resizing, dragging, adjusting spacing, or while the AI Assistant, a translation or Tailor this project works on it); it shows a grey cover with their name, or Translating..., and unlocks by itself when they finish.
