How to remove a member or cancel an invitation

How to remove a member or cancel an invitation

In TeleportHQ, you remove someone from a workspace in Workspace Settings → Collaborators: click the ⋯ at the end of their row, choose Delete, and confirm. Their access ends immediately. The same steps cancel an invitation, because TeleportHQ has no separate "revoke" or "cancel invite" button.

Before you start

  • You need to be the workspace Owner or an Admin.
  • The Owner can't be removed. You also can't remove yourself this way. To leave someone else's workspace, see How to leave a workspace.
  • This works without an active plan too. While the workspace's trial or subscription has ended, you can still remove members. Only inviting people and giving editing roles wait until the Owner subscribes.
  • Think about a read-only role instead. If you only want to stop paying for someone's editor seat, you can make them a Viewer and they keep access. See How to change a member's role.

Steps

  1. On your dashboard, in the left sidebar, point at the workspace and click the ⋯ icon at the right end of its row.
  2. Click Manage Collaborators. If you're an Admin, the workspace is under SHARED WITH ME and the item is See Collaborators.
  3. In the Members list, find the person. Invitations that haven't been used yet show only an email address.
  4. Click the ⋯ at the end of their row.
  5. Click Delete. The Delete workspace member? window opens: "Are you sure you want to delete the selected workspace member?"
  6. Click Delete to confirm. For an editor on a workspace that pays for seats, the window also explains that the unused part of the seat's billing period becomes account credit.

Check that it worked

TeleportHQ shows "Workspace member was successfully removed" and the person disappears from the Members list.

If they had a project open, their editor shows Access denied ("Access to this project or it's workspace has been removed. You will be redirected to dashboard in a few moments...") and sends them to their dashboard after a few seconds.

Remove someone from a single project

People invited to only one project (collaborator type Project) can also be removed from that project in the TeleportHQ editor. You need to be the Owner or an Admin.

  1. Open the project and click Share in the top bar.
  2. In the Collaborators window, find the person under Project collaborators.
  3. Open the role list next to their name.
  4. Click Remove, at the bottom of the list. There is no confirmation.

If this was the last project they had access to, they also disappear from the workspace's Members list.

Troubleshooting

"Could not remove workspace collaborator. Please try again." The removal didn't save. Reload the page and try again.

There's no ⋯ on the row You can't remove the Owner, and you can't remove yourself. The Owner and Admins see the ⋯ on everyone else's row. Other roles don't see it at all.

Good to know

  • Removing an editor frees a seat. On Pro and Premium, removing an Admin, Designer or Editor credits the unused part of the seat's billing period to your account. It's applied to your next invoice, not refunded to your card. See How do editor seats work, and what do they cost?.
  • Invitations can't be resent. To invite someone again after removing them, add their email again with Send invite.
  • Removing is instant. The person needs a new invitation to get back in.
