How do editor seats work, and what do they cost?

In a TeleportHQ Pro or Premium workspace, the owner's editor seat is included. Every other person with an editing role (Admin, Designer or Editor) uses a paid extra editor seat. The seat is charged to your saved card when you invite them, for the rest of the current billing period, and the unused part is credited to your account when you remove them or make them a Viewer. Viewers and Limited Viewers are always free.

How seat charges work

  • When you invite an editor, the Add an editor seat window shows the cost before anything is charged: Seat, for the rest of this billing period, any Account credit applied, and a button that names what you pay today (Pay followed by the amount and and add editor). The seat is charged to the card saved on the workspace. See How to invite people to your workspace.
  • When you change a Viewer to an editing role, the Upgrade to an editor seat window opens, with a button that ends in and upgrade.
  • When credit covers the seat, the button says Add editor, covered by your credit or Upgrade, covered by your credit.
  • When you remove an editor or make them a Viewer, the unused part of the period becomes account credit. It isn't refunded to your card. The credit pays your next invoices automatically.
  • Seats have their own renewal date, separate from the plan. Workspace Settings → Billing → Cost Breakdown lists them as Extra editors.
  • Seats end with the plan. If you cancel the plan, the seats end on the same date.

How to choose monthly or yearly seats

On a yearly Pro or Premium plan, the owner chooses how extra seats renew, before the first extra seat is bought.

  1. In the left sidebar of the dashboard, point at your workspace under WORKSPACES, click the ⋯ at the end of its row, then click Manage Collaborators.
  2. In the Billing Cycle note, choose Monthly or Yearly, with your plan. The choice is saved at once.

The choice is locked once the first extra seat is bought. The note then says, for example, "Extra editor seats renew yearly, next on" a date. On a monthly plan, seats renew monthly.

If seats and the plan renew on different cycles, Billing → Cost Breakdown shows one line for each and notes: "Two separate charges on their own dates, not one bill."

Troubleshooting

"We could not quote this seat because there is no saved payment method on the workspace. Add one from Workspace settings → Billing → Manage payment, then invite again." The workspace has no saved card. Add one in Billing → Manage payment, then invite again.

"Editors limit has been reached for this plan." or "Seat limit reached" Your plan includes a fixed number of seats (for example Academic or Lifetime). Invite the person as a Viewer, or remove an editor first.

"Could not change the seats billing cycle. Please try again." The choice didn't save. Refresh the page and try again.

"Extra editor seats are not available in your billing currency yet. Please contact support." Seats have no price in your currency yet. Write to hello@teleporthq.io.

I was charged when I added a teammate That's the extra editor seat. To stop paying for it, change the person to Viewer or remove them. The unused time is credited to your account.

Good to know

  • Adding editors during your trial is free. When you subscribe to Pro or Premium, every editor besides the owner becomes a paid seat. To avoid paying for someone, make them a Viewer before you subscribe.
  • Upgrading Pro on older terms to Premium lets you choose which editors to keep. Each editor you keep becomes an extra editor seat, and the others become Viewers.
  • Inviting someone to a single project with an editing role also uses a seat, unless that person already edits elsewhere in the workspace. The same Add an editor seat window opens.
  • Inviting support@teleporthq.io so TeleportHQ support can look at a project never uses a paid seat.

How to invite people to your workspace

In TeleportHQ, open Workspace Settings → Collaborators, type the person's email in Invite by email, pick a role and click Send invite; they get access to every project in the workspace straight away, and on Pro and Premium an editing role adds a paid editor seat.

What can each role do? (Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer)

TeleportHQ has six roles (Owner, Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer and Limited Viewer); Owner, Admin, Designer and Editor can edit and use an editor seat, Viewers are free and read-only, and the Editor role can't publish, view code, edit components or see every page by default.

How to change a member's role

In TeleportHQ, the workspace Owner changes a member's role in Workspace Settings → Collaborators by picking a new role in the Role column; on Pro and Premium, moving someone to an editing role adds a paid seat, and making an editor read-only frees the seat as account credit.

What add-ons can I buy? (domains, languages, web app slots, editor seats)

On a TeleportHQ Pro or Premium plan you can add extra custom domains, extra languages, Web App slots and extra editor seats; each one is a recurring add-on that follows your plan's monthly or yearly billing, and the workspace owner manages it in Workspace Settings.

How to see what you pay and when it renews

In TeleportHQ, the workspace owner opens Workspace Settings → Billing to see the plan, billing period and renewal date in Subscription, and every charge (plan, extra editor seats, add-ons), the total per month or year and any account credit in Cost Breakdown.
