Why is the editor slow, or saying I'm offline?
When the TeleportHQ editor loses its live connection for more than two seconds, a banner says "Connection lost. Reconnecting automatically… Your edits are paused until it is back." The project stays read-only until the editor reconnects, which it does by itself. Other messages warn that your browser window is too small, your browser isn't fully supported, or too many people have the project open. Find your message below; for general slowness, see the last section.
"Connection lost. Reconnecting automatically… Your edits are paused until it is back."
Cause: the TeleportHQ editor's live connection dropped, for example because your Wi-Fi changed, your computer slept, or a VPN or firewall interrupted it. If your computer has no internet at all, the banner says "You're offline. Editing resumes when your connection returns." While the banner shows, the project is read-only.
Fix:
- Check your internet connection.
- Wait. The editor tries again by itself, at least every 15 seconds, and the banner has no button to click. When the banner goes away, you can edit again.
- If the banner stays for more than a minute, reload the page.
- If it happens often, turn off your VPN, or try another network.
"The server rejected one of your edits, so it was not saved. Reload the editor to continue safely."
Cause: TeleportHQ couldn't save your last change, so the project in your tab no longer matches the saved project.
Fix: click Reload editor in the banner, then make that change again.
"Your browser window is too narrow. Building capabilities are disabled."
Also: "Your browser window is too short." or "Your browser window is too small. Building capabilities are disabled."
Cause: the TeleportHQ editor needs a window at least 767 pixels wide and 700 pixels tall. Zoom settings in your operating system count too.
Fix: make the browser window bigger, or zoom the browser out (Ctrl or Cmd and -). You can click Continue anyway, but parts of the editor may not work. See Which browsers and devices does TeleportHQ work on?.
"Editing needs a larger screen" or "The editor needs a mouse or trackpad"
Cause: you opened the TeleportHQ editor on a phone, or on a tablet without a mouse or trackpad.
Fix: on a phone, click Open preview to look at your pages, and edit on a computer. On a tablet, connect a mouse or trackpad, or click Continue anyway to edit with touch. See Which browsers and devices does TeleportHQ work on?.
"Your browser is not fully supported"
Cause: you're using a browser that isn't based on Chromium, such as Firefox or Safari.
Fix: "For the best experience, please use a Chromium-based browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, or Opera." You can click Continue anyway, but some features may be slower or not work.
"Real-time collaborators limit"
"Unfortunately you can't access the project right now because there are too many live connections. Please try again later!"
Cause: too many people have the TeleportHQ project open at once. On a trial, up to 24 live connections are allowed. Pro and Premium have no limit. Each open browser tab with the project counts as one connection.
Fix: ask teammates to close the project in tabs they aren't using, then open it again. The editor takes you back to the dashboard after a few seconds.
"New version of the app available"
Cause: TeleportHQ released an update while you had the editor open.
Fix: click Reload to load the new version.
"Access denied", "New project role", "Deleted project" or "Project restored from backup"
Cause: the owner changed your access, deleted the project, or restored a backup while you were working.
Fix: see Why did the editor say "Access denied", "New project role" or "You're offline"?.
The editor sent me back to the dashboard
Cause: you no longer have access to the project, the project was deleted, or too many people have it open. TeleportHQ may take you back without a message.
Fix: ask the project owner to check your access. See Why can't I edit my project?.
"Your website is being generated"
Cause: AI is still building your TeleportHQ site, and your browser window is narrower than 767 pixels. On a small window, this message covers the editor while generation runs.
Fix: wait for generation to finish ("Please wait while we create your website. This may take a few moments."), or make the window wider to watch the pages appear. You can't publish or view the code until it's done.
The preview says "Preview has expired" or "Preview Failed"
Cause: the TeleportHQ preview runs a real copy of your site. It can take a few minutes to start, and it stops after a while in a hidden or idle tab.
Fix: on "Preview has expired", click Reload. On "Preview Failed", click Retry. See How to preview your site before publishing.
The editor feels slow
The TeleportHQ editor doesn't show a message for general slowness. These steps often help:
- Use an up-to-date Chromium-based browser: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave or Opera.
- Keep the project open in one tab only, and close other heavy tabs.
- Reload the editor page.
- Try a private window, where browser extensions are usually off.
- Keep the browser window at least 767 pixels wide and 700 pixels tall.
If it's still slow, write to the TeleportHQ team at hello@teleporthq.io with the project name and what you were doing when it slowed down. See How to get help.
