How to change your project's name and favicon
In TeleportHQ, you change a project's name and its favicon (the small icon in the browser tab) in Project settings → Site → General: click the Project settings cog at the bottom of the left sidebar, then General. Type the new Project Name, and click Browse files under FavIcon to pick a square image. Both save on their own. Publish your site so visitors see the new icon.
Before you start
- You need a role that can change project settings: Owner, Admin or Designer. See What can each role do? (Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer).
- Favicon file: a square image in one of these formats: ICO, PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG, WEBP or SVG. For example, your bakery's logo saved as
favicon.png. - For an installable app: a favicon of 512 x 512 pixels or larger also makes a sharp icon for your installable app (the icon visitors see when they add your site to their home screen).
- You must be signed in. Guests see "This option will be available only after you sign in."
Steps
- In the TeleportHQ editor, at the bottom of the left sidebar, click the Project settings cog.
- In the Project settings panel, under Site, click General. The General settings open next to the panel.
- In Project Name, type the new name. For example, type
Sunny Bakery. - Press Enter, or click outside the field. The new name saves.
- Under FavIcon, click Browse files.
- Choose your image file and click Open. Its preview and name appear, and the favicon saves a moment later.
- Publish your site so the new favicon appears on your live site. See How to publish your site.
The General settings in TeleportHQ hold:
- Project Name: the project's name inside TeleportHQ.
- FavIcon: the icon in the browser tab, with Browse files.
- Password protection: the site's password with the Enable, Remove and refresh buttons, and on Pro and Premium the logo of the page that asks for the password. See How to password-protect your site.
- Assets and Versions: how many files the project uses out of its limit, and how many backups ("saved versions") it has, with the space each takes.
Replace or remove the favicon
- Replace: under FavIcon, click Browse files and pick the new image. It saves on its own.
- Remove: click the current icon preview. It's removed and the change saves on its own.
Publish again afterwards.
Check that it worked
- The new project name shows at the top of the editor and on the project card on the dashboard.
- After you publish, open your live site in a new tab. The favicon shows in the browser tab. Browsers keep old favicons for a while, so if you still see the old one, open the site in a private window.
Troubleshooting
"The provided file is not a supported image format." The file isn't ICO, PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG, WEBP or SVG. Save the image in one of those formats and try again.
"Name should be between 3 and 90 characters" or "Name is not in a valid format" Use a name with 3 to 90 characters, and avoid the characters <, >, { and }. A name with an error isn't saved.
The favicon didn't upload Check your connection and pick the file again. If the project is near its file limit, the Assets numbers on the same screen show it; delete unused files first.
The favicon didn't change on my live site Publish again after the favicon saves. If you use a custom domain, make sure Publish to custom domain is ticked when you publish.
My installable app shows my initials instead of my logo The favicon is too small for an app icon, or couldn't be read. Upload a square favicon of at least 512 x 512 pixels, or upload a separate App icon in the Publish window, under Installable app.
Good to know
- The project name is the project's name inside TeleportHQ ("This is the project's name within the Studio."). It doesn't change your web address. Search engines show the titles from your SEO settings; only a site with no default Meta Title shows the project name there. Renaming the project also renames a default Meta Title, and your store's Company Name, while they still read the old name. A title or name you typed stays. To change those, see How to change your free TeleportHQ web address and How to set a page's title and description for Google.
- The favicon is also your app icon. If you make your site installable (in the Publish window, under Installable app, on paid plans), the app's icon is "Made from your favicon." unless you upload another App icon there.
- You can also rename a project from the dashboard. See How to rename a project.
- The favicon image is uploaded to your project's files, like any other image.
