How to rename a project
To rename a project in TeleportHQ, go to your dashboard, click the ⋯ menu on the project's card, and choose Rename. Type the new name and click Rename. The new name shows on the dashboard and in the editor right away. Renaming a project doesn't change your published site's web address.
Before you start
- You need to be the workspace Owner or an Admin to rename a project from the dashboard.
- Archived projects, and projects in a workspace whose trial or subscription has ended, can't be renamed.
Steps
- On your TeleportHQ dashboard, find the project card. You can type its current name in the search box above the cards.
- Hover the card and click its ⋯ menu.
- Click Rename. The Rename Project window opens with the current name filled in.
- Delete the old name and type the new one, for example
Sunny Bakery Website. - Click Rename, or press Enter.

The project card on your TeleportHQ dashboard shows the new name. When you open the project, the new name also appears at the top of the editor.
Troubleshooting
The Rename Project window stays open after you click Rename The name wasn't accepted, and the window doesn't say why. TeleportHQ project names need at least 3 characters and can't use the characters <, >, { or }. Change the name and click Rename again.
"Name should be between 3 and 90 characters" or "Name is not in a valid format" These messages appear in the General settings. Use 3 to 89 characters, and don't use the characters <, >, { or }.
There's no Rename option in the menu Your role can't rename projects, or the project is archived. Ask the workspace owner or an admin to rename it.
Good to know
- New projects get a random name, such as "Grizzled Joyous Ape". Rename them so they're easier to find.
- Your site's web address stays the same. To change the free TeleportHQ address your site is published on, see How to change your free TeleportHQ web address.
- Your site's title in Google comes from its SEO settings: the Meta Title in Project settings → SEO & social → Search engines, or the project name when there's none. A Meta Title that still reads the old project name is renamed with the project; a title you typed stays. See How to set a page's title and description for Google.
- Your store's company name follows too. A store's Company Name that still reads the old project name takes the new one, until you type your own.
- A dashboard rename reaches them later. After a rename on the dashboard card, the Meta Title and Company Name follow the next time you open the project in the editor or in its Project Settings page. A rename in General settings changes them at once.
