How to turn off the blog
In TeleportHQ, you turn off the blog in the Blog panel: click Blog Settings (the gear), type disable blog in the Disable Blog section and click Disable Blog. The Help Center turns off the same way, from Help Center Settings, with disable help center. TeleportHQ removes the pages from your project, but your posts and articles stay saved in the database. Publish your project again for the change to reach your live site.
Before you start
- Your posts aren't deleted. They stay in your database, so you can turn the blog back on later and find them again.
- Your blog settings are reset. A blog you turn on again starts with the default settings, such as the list page's page layout and Listing Page Settings, and the post page elements. Your categories stay.
- The project stays a web app. Turning off the blog doesn't turn the project back into a website.
- A project can activate the blog up to 10 times in total. Turning it back on later counts as one of those. The Help Center has its own 10.
- Optional: export your posts first as a backup. See How to import or export blog posts.
Steps
Turn off the blog
- In the left sidebar, click Blog.
- At the top of the Blog panel, click Blog Settings (the gear). The Blog Settings panel opens.
- Scroll to the bottom, to Disable Blog. Read the warning: the blog pages and the workflows on them are removed, and your post data stays in the database.
- In the field Type "disable blog" to confirm:, type
disable blog. - Click Disable Blog. The message "Blog functionality has been disabled." appears.
- Publish your project so the change reaches your live site. See How to publish a web app.
Turn off the Help Center
- In the left sidebar, click Help Center.
- At the top of the panel, click Help Center Settings (the gear).
- Scroll to Disable Help Center.
- In the field Type "disable help center" to confirm:, type
disable help center. - Click Disable Help Center. The message "Help Center functionality has been disabled." appears.
- Publish your project.
Or turn either off from Plugins
- In the left sidebar, click Plugins (below the plugin icons, above Growth).
- Click the Blog row (or Help Center). Its pill says On. A drawer opens beside the list.
- Under Feature, click the Blog enabled switch (or Help Center enabled).
- In the Disable Blog window ("This removes the blog pages and their workflows from the project. Your posts stay in your data source."), click Disable Blog.
See How to turn features on or off (Plugins).
Check that it worked
- The Blog button is gone from the left sidebar, and Plugins shows the Blog row as Off. In its drawer, Open next to Blog panel shows Blog Not Activated.
- The blog-posts-list and blog-post-details pages are gone from the
blogfolder. If they were the only pages in it, the folder is removed too. For the Help Center, its pages leave thehelp-centerfolder. - After you publish,
/blog(or/help) no longer loads on your live site.
What stays in your project
- Your posts or articles, in the database they were stored in.
- Your categories.
- The card component that draws each post in a list: blog-post-card (Blog Post Card on older blogs), or help-article-card for the Help Center.
- A page of your own that the blog took over when you connected existing pages. Only the list of posts is removed from it.
- Blog lists you added to other pages yourself, such as a "Latest posts" grid on your homepage. TeleportHQ leaves them in place. Remove them yourself.
Troubleshooting
The blog is still on my live site Turning off the blog only changes your project. Publish again to update the live site.
"You have reached the maximum number of blog activations for this project." You tried to turn the blog back on after 10 activations. The project can't activate the blog again.
Good to know
- To delete your posts for good, delete them in the Blog panel before you turn off the blog. See How to publish, move or delete several posts at once.
- If you deleted the blog pages by accident but want to keep the blog, don't turn it off. The Blog panel shows Blog Pages Deleted: click Activate Blog to build the pages again over your posts and settings. See How to add a blog to your site.
- If you change your mind right away, restoring a backup from before you turned off the blog brings the pages back. See How to back up and restore your project.
