How to turn features on or off (Plugins)
In the TeleportHQ editor, you switch whole features on or off in the Plugins tab of the left sidebar: click Plugins, then click a plugin, for example Blog. Its settings open in a drawer beside the list. Flip its switch, for example Blog enabled, to turn it on. The same drawer starts the plugin's tutorial, opens its panel, shows or hides its button in the left sidebar, and lists anything that needs attention. To turn a plugin off, flip the switch again and confirm. To switch on several plugins at once, use Enable Plugins… in the Project Menu's Edit menu.
Before you start
- You need a role that can change project settings: Owner, Admin or Designer.
- Turning on a plugin can turn a website into a web app. TeleportHQ asks you to confirm first, and saves a backup named Before Web App features Enabled that you can restore later. A project that is still blank (an empty home page and no components) gets no backup, because there is nothing in it to restore. See What's the difference between a website and a web app?.
- Turning a plugin off removes its pages from the project, and can't be undone. The data behind it, such as products, posts, bookings or user accounts, stays in your data source.
- Admin panel needs Authentication on first.
The Plugins list
The TeleportHQ Plugins tab is always in the left sidebar, above Growth. It lists seven plugins, each with a line about it and an On or Off pill:
- Authentication: "Accounts, sign-in and protected pages."
- E-commerce: "Products, cart, checkout and orders."
- Blog: "Articles, post pages and categories."
- Help Center: "Documentation and help articles, their pages and categories."
- Bookings: "Bookable items, their calendars and the bookings visitors make."
- AI assistant chat: "A chat bubble on your site that answers visitors."
- Admin panel: "A back office for your data, behind sign-in."
To find one fast, type in Search plugins... at the top of the list. An orange warning icon before the pill (Needs attention) means part of that plugin isn't set up yet.
Turn a plugin on
- In the TeleportHQ editor, in the left sidebar, click Plugins.
- In the Plugins list, click the plugin, for example Blog. Its settings open in a drawer next to the list.
- Under Feature, click the switch, for example Blog enabled.
- TeleportHQ opens the plugin's setup window, the same one its own panel opens. Follow it to finish.
Once a plugin is on, its pill reads On. E-commerce, Blog, Help Center, Bookings and AI assistant chat also get their own button in the left sidebar, above Plugins.
Turn on several plugins at once
In TeleportHQ, the Choose your plugins window switches on several plugins in one go, together with the plugins they need.
- In the TeleportHQ editor, click the logo at the top left to open the Project Menu.
- Click Edit, then Enable Plugins…. The Choose your plugins window opens.
- Click the card of each plugin you want: Accounts (sign-up and sign-in, the Authentication plugin), E-commerce, Blog, Help center, Bookings, Admin panel or AI chat assistant. A plugin your project already has says In your project and can't be clicked.
- Click the button at the bottom, for example Enable 2 plugins. Its number counts the plugins you ticked and the ones they come with.
- If your project is still a website, the Enable Web App features? window opens. Click Enable Web App features.
TeleportHQ says, for example, "Enabling Accounts and E-commerce. This can take a minute." and switches the plugins on one at a time. The AI chat assistant comes last: it opens its own window to ask for your AI provider key.
Some TeleportHQ plugins need others, and the window switches those on with them:
- E-commerce comes with Accounts.
- Admin panel comes with Accounts.
- Bookings comes with Accounts and Admin panel.
The card says so, for example "Comes with Accounts". Once you tick E-commerce, the Accounts card is ticked too and says "Needed by E-commerce". To leave it out, untick E-commerce first.
Good to know about the Choose your plugins window:
- A new project made with the Blank project card opens this window on its own the first time you open it. If you tick nothing, the button reads Continue without plugins.
- Plugins switched on here keep your existing pages as they are: they don't turn a products gallery into store data. To do that, switch on E-commerce from Plugins instead. See How to add a store to an existing project.
- A store switched on here starts with Stripe waiting for its keys, unless the project already has a payment provider. Until you add them, the E-commerce row shows the orange Needs attention icon and its drawer says "Stripe is not set up". See How to accept payments with Stripe or PayPal.
What's in a plugin's drawer
Each TeleportHQ plugin drawer starts with a line about the plugin, then the same parts:
- Feature: the switch, for example E-commerce enabled, with a line saying what turning it on and off does.
- Tutorial: Start tutorial plays "A short tour of the feature, played on the canvas." It works once the plugin is on. Help Center has no tutorial.
- Panel: Open, next to the plugin's panel name (for example E-commerce panel), takes you to that panel in the left sidebar, where you do the work, such as writing posts. Below it, Show in the left sidebar shows or hides the plugin's own button. E-commerce, Blog, Help Center, Bookings and AI assistant chat have a panel; Authentication and Admin panel don't.
When a plugin has a problem, a Needs attention section comes first, with a button that takes you to the fix:
- "<Provider> is not set up", for example "Stripe is not set up" (a payment provider is switched on without its keys): Set up.
- "Order notifications reach nobody" (E-commerce): Configure.
- "Booking emails cannot go out" (Bookings): Set up.
- "The chat has no AI provider key" (AI assistant chat): Open settings.
Some plugins add their main settings at the end of the drawer:
- Authentication, under Sign-in: Email and password sign-in (turn it off to let visitors sign in only through the providers you connect), and Authentication settings ("Google, GitHub and the other sign-in providers, and how visitors sign in.") with an Open settings button. Under Users, Users of your site has a Manage users button. See How to add sign-up and login to your site.
- Admin panel, under Sections: Data the admin panel manages, with a Manage button. See How to turn on the admin panel.
- AI assistant chat, under Chat: where the chat bubble sits (Bottom right, Bottom left, Top right or Top left), the Chat name and the Welcome message. See How to add an AI chatbot to your web app.
For a store or a blog, see How to add a store to an existing project and How to add a blog to your site.
Turn a plugin off
- In the left sidebar, click Plugins, then click the plugin.
- Click its switch, for example Blog enabled.
- The Disable Blog window says what is removed and asks "This cannot be undone. Are you sure you want to disable it?"
- Click Disable Blog.
What turning off each TeleportHQ plugin removes:
| Plugin | What's removed | What stays |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication | The sign-in and sign-up pages. Every page, folder and component is unprotected, and the preview is signed out. | User accounts, in your data source |
| E-commerce | The store pages, their workflows, favourites and reviews | Products and orders, in your data source |
| Blog | The blog pages and their workflows | Your posts, in your data source |
| Help Center | The help center pages and their workflows | Your articles, in your data source |
| Bookings | The booking pages and their workflows | Your items, bookings and settings, in your data source |
| AI assistant chat | The chat on your site, and everything it learned about the project | Your pages and data |
| Admin panel | The admin-panel folder and every page in it, including your changes to those pages | The data they managed |
Languages are a project setting
Internationalization isn't a plugin. To make your TeleportHQ site multilingual, click the Project settings cog at the bottom of the left sidebar, then Site → Internationalization. The drawer has the same Feature switch, Internationalization enabled, and under Languages the main language and Ignore the visitor's browser language. Internationalization can't be turned off once it's on. To add or remove languages, use the language button above the canvas. See How to make your site available in several languages.
Troubleshooting
I can't find Extra Features or Project settings → Features Both are now the Plugins tab in the left sidebar.
The Admin panel switch is greyed out and says "Turn on Authentication first." In Plugins, open Authentication and turn it on, then come back to Admin panel.
Start tutorial or Open is greyed out The plugin is off. Turn it on first. Pointing at Start tutorial says, for example, "Enable Blog to see its tutorial." The AI assistant chat panel opens only while the chat is on.
A plugin row shows an orange warning icon Click the row. The Needs attention section at the top of the drawer names the problem; click its button to fix it.
A plugin's button disappeared from the left sidebar In Plugins, open the plugin and turn Show in the left sidebar back on. A plugin's button also shows only while the plugin is on.
I turned a feature on by mistake and my website became a web app Restore the backup named Before Web App features Enabled. See How to back up and restore your project. On a trial, backups aren't included, so ask support at hello@teleporthq.io to restore it. A project that was still blank when it became a web app has no such backup, because there was nothing in it to keep.
"This project keeps its plugins in your own database, so new plugins are enabled one at a time: use their Activate button in the Plugins tab to choose the database." The Choose your plugins window switches plugins on in the TeleportHQ database only. Your project keeps its plugins in a database you connected, so turn each plugin on from Plugins instead, one at a time: its setup window lets you pick that database.
"Your plugins are still being enabled. You can choose more once they are ready." The plugins you picked in Choose your plugins are still being switched on. Wait until they're done, then open Enable Plugins… again.
A message says a plugin "could not be enabled" or "was not enabled, as it needs Accounts" The other plugins you picked are on. The message ends with "You can try again from the project menu.": open Edit → Enable Plugins… again, or turn the plugin on from Plugins. A plugin that needs one that failed, such as Admin panel without Accounts, is skipped.
Good to know
- Plugins replaced Extra Features and the Features group of Project settings. Forms aren't a plugin: form submissions are in Growth → Forms.
- Plugins and Elements are always shown in the left sidebar. Show in the left sidebar is the same switch as Preferences → View → Left sidebar. See How to change editor preferences (Editing, View and Advanced features).
