How to choose what happens after someone submits a form

How to choose what happens after someone submits a form

In TeleportHQ, each form has its own settings in the Manage Form window, on the Settings tab. There you choose what visitors see after they submit (for example, a thank-you alert or a redirect to a page), who receives an email for each new submission, and when the form stops accepting entries. Click Save, then publish your site.

Before you start

  • Add a form. See How to create a form.
  • Publish on TeleportHQ hosting. TeleportHQ forms only accept submissions from your project's TeleportHQ address (ending in .teleporthq.app or .teleporthq.site) and the custom domain connected to the project. On a site hosted anywhere else, TeleportHQ refuses submissions with "Domain not allowed", nothing is saved and no email is sent. See Why is my form not working?
  • The form must store its submissions in TeleportHQ. Select the form and check that the Form Submissions switch in the right panel is on ("Form submissions are stored and can be viewed in Growth → Forms.").

Steps

Open the form settings

  1. In the TeleportHQ editor's left sidebar, click Growth (the last button, under Live).
  2. Under Forms, click Form submissions. Ctrl+5 (Cmd+5 on a Mac) opens it in one go.
  3. Under Your forms, click the form, for example Homepage Form.
  4. Beside the list, next to the form's name, click Settings. The Manage Form window opens on the Settings tab.

You can also select the form on the canvas and click Manage in the right panel, or Manage Form above the form.

Name the form

Under Form Name, type a name you'll recognize, for example Cake order form. It names the form in the Your forms list of Growth → Forms. Without a name, the form is listed by the name of its page.

Choose what visitors see after submitting

  1. Under Confirmation Message, open After submission and choose:
    • Clear the form and show alert: the form empties and the visitor's browser shows your text in a small pop-up. Edit it under Submission success alert message (default "Thank you for your submission!").
    • Clear the form.
    • Show a component: pick it under Component. It appears under the submit button.
    • Redirect to a page: pick it under Page, for example your Thank you page.
    • Redirect to an URL: type the full address under URL, for example https://mybakery.com/thanks.
  2. Under Error Message, open On error and choose from the same options. The default alert is "There was an error submitting your form. Please try again."

An alert can't be empty: while its text is empty, the settings show "Write the message the alert shows." and Save stays greyed out.

Get an email for each submission

  1. Under Notifications, turn on Send new submission received. TeleportHQ adds the workspace owner's address, marked Owner ("The workspace owner will receive notifications automatically").
  2. To add someone else, type their address in Enter email address, for example orders@mybakery.com, and click Add.
  3. The list holds up to 3 addresses in all, the owner's included.

Each email shows your project's name and the submitted fields, under the title "Form Submission". New forms start with notifications on, sent to the workspace owner.

Close the form automatically (optional)

  1. Under Status, set an Expiration Date, for example the end of your event registration.
  2. Or type a Submission Limit, for example 50 for a workshop with 50 seats.
  3. Under When limit is reached, choose what visitors see. With an alert, edit its Alert Message (default "This form is no longer accepting submissions.").

Save

  1. At the bottom of the window, click Save. The button is active only after you change something. The window closes.
  2. Publish your site so the new behavior reaches your live form.

Messages on a multilingual site

On a TeleportHQ site in several languages, every alert (success, error and limit) has a copy for each language. Write the text in your main language first: a Translations list then appears under it, with one box per language.

  • Click Translate with AI to fill every box from the main text. This uses AI tokens.
  • Or type each translation yourself.
  • An empty box shows the main-language text to visitors in that language.
  • If Automatically translate text elements is on for the project, saving translates the empty boxes, and every box you didn't edit after changing the main text.

Visitors see the alert in the language of the page they're on. See How to make your site available in several languages.

Where forms go when a project is copied or started from a template

When you start a TeleportHQ project from a template, or copy a project, each form in the new project is a separate form of its own:

  • Submissions sent on the new project's site land in the new project's Growth → Forms. The original project keeps its own submissions; none are copied over.
  • Notification emails from a template, or from a project in another workspace, go to the owner of your workspace instead of the original list. A copy made inside the same workspace keeps the original's list. If the original had notifications off, the copy has them off too.
  • Settings such as the messages, redirects, expiration date and submission limit are copied as they were. Your own reCAPTCHA keys aren't copied: the new project's forms use TeleportHQ's own reCAPTCHA until you add keys again. See How to protect forms from spam (reCAPTCHA).
  • The new forms count toward your workspace's form limit. See How many forms and submissions can I have?

To copy a project, see How to duplicate a project (and reuse it like a template).

Check that it worked

Submit the form on your published site. You see the behavior you chose (for example, the redirect to your Thank you page), and each address in Notification emails receives an email with the submitted fields.

Troubleshooting

"Maximum of 3 emails allowed" The list already holds 3 addresses, the owner's included. Remove one first.

I can't remove the owner's address "Owner email cannot be removed when other emails exist." Remove the other addresses first. Removing the last address turns Send new submission received off.

"Please enter a valid email address" or "This email is already in the list" Check the address for typos, or skip it if it's listed already.

"Expiration date cannot be in the past" Pick a future date and time.

"Please enter a valid URL" Type a full address, such as https://mybakery.com/thanks.

Save stays greyed out A choice is missing: an alert without text, or Show a component, Redirect to a page or Redirect to an URL without its component, page or address. Fill it in.

"Failed to update form settings. Please try again." The settings weren't saved. Check your connection and click Save again.

A warning says "Form Action Override Active" The form's action attribute sends submissions to another service, so TeleportHQ doesn't store or email them. To use TeleportHQ, click Remove Action Attribute. To keep your own service, leave it.

I don't see the Manage button A workflow handles this form ("This form is submitted through a workflow, which already handles the submission — storage in Growth → Forms is disabled."). The workflow decides what happens on submit, and submissions don't appear in Growth → Forms.

How to create a form

In TeleportHQ, you create a form by adding a Form element from Elements → Primitives, by adding a ready-made Contact Form, Sign Up or Sign In section, or by asking the AI Assistant; then click + Add elements to insert fields such as Name, Email and Phone, and publish so submissions reach Growth → Forms.

How to check what visitors type in a form field

In TeleportHQ, open the form's Manage Form window (Growth → Forms → Settings), go to Field rules, pick a field, and set Required, a Format such as Email address, Phone number or Text length, a Pattern for your own format, and the Message when the value is refused; click Save and publish, and the visitor's browser checks the field before the form is sent.

How to see and export form submissions

In TeleportHQ, you see form submissions in Growth → Forms → Form submissions by picking a form in the Your forms list, where you search, open and edit entries, mark them as spam, move them to trash, download one as a PDF, or click Download submissions to export them as a CSV file.

How to protect forms from spam (reCAPTCHA)

TeleportHQ forms are protected by an invisible reCAPTCHA check and a hidden spam-trap field, both switched on in the form's Settings → Spam Filter; on a custom domain, paste your own Google reCAPTCHA v3 Site Key and Secret Key there, click Save and publish again.

How to duplicate a project (and reuse it like a template)

To duplicate a TeleportHQ project, open the ⋯ menu on its dashboard card and click Clone, or click the project name in the editor and choose Duplicate; the copy, named "Copy of" plus the original name, lands in the same workspace, unpublished, and you can reuse it like your own template.

Why is my form not working?

A TeleportHQ form usually stops collecting submissions because the site is hosted outside TeleportHQ ("Domain not allowed"), the changes weren't published, the form's storage is off or handled by a workflow, an action attribute overrides it, a field rule refuses the value, the form expired or hit a limit, or reCAPTCHA keys don't match the domain.
