How to point the AI Assistant at a specific element or page
To point the TeleportHQ AI Assistant at a specific element, open the chat and click that element on the canvas. It's added as a chip above the message box, and your next request applies to it. With nothing selected, the assistant uses the whole page you're looking at.
Before you start
- Open the AI Assistant: in the editor, click AI Assistant above the top right of the canvas. See How to edit your website by chatting with the AI Assistant.
Steps
- With the AI Assistant open, go to the page you want to change.
- On the canvas, click the element or section you want the AI to work on, for example your pricing cards. A chip with its name appears above the message box.
Optional: to add more elements, hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and click each one. Each selected element gets its own chip.
- In the message box, type your request about the selection. For example:
Make the middle card stand out with a purple border and a "Most popular" badge. - Press Enter.
Hover a chip to read "The selected element has been added to the context. The AI assistant can now edit or redesign it at your request."
Check that it worked
The chip above the message box shows the element's name before you send. After the reply, the change appears on that element, and element names in the reply are links: click one to select that element on the canvas.
Remove or change the context
- To remove an element from the TeleportHQ AI Assistant's context, click × on its chip. This also deselects the element on the canvas.
With nothing selected, the chip shows the current page, next to the hint Select element to scope. Its tooltip says "The AI assistant has the entire visible canvas as context."
- To work on another page, open that page first, then ask.
Troubleshooting
The AI changed the wrong element Nothing was selected, so the assistant guessed from your words. Undo the change, select the element you meant, and send the request again. See How to undo changes made by the AI Assistant.
"This element no longer exists in the project." You clicked a link to an element that was deleted or replaced. Select the element on the canvas instead.
Good to know
- The assistant can look at other pages and your project's data by itself when a request needs them. You don't need to add them.
- There's no @mention or "add to chat" button. Selecting on the canvas is how you add context.
- For rules the AI should always follow in this project, such as "Always use British English", add them once instead of repeating them in each chat: open Project settings → AI → Assistant and type them under Custom instructions. The same instructions are on the Custom Requirements tab of the AI Assistant's Settings → Business, brand & custom instructions. They're yours: collaborators keep their own. See How to give the AI your business details and instructions (Project brief).
- To show the AI a design instead of describing it, attach a screenshot. See How to create a layout from a screenshot or image.
