How to give the AI your business details and instructions (Project brief)
In TeleportHQ, what the AI knows about your project is kept in the Project brief: your business description, brand name, main language, the answers you gave during setup, and the documents or website the project was built from. Open it from Project settings → AI → Project brief. Your own standing rules for the AI Assistant, such as Always use British English, go in Project settings → AI → Assistant, under Custom instructions. Changes apply to future AI runs; pages that are already built stay as they are.
Before you start
- Only project owners and admins can change the business details and the setup answers. Everyone else sees them read-only. See What can each role do? (Admin, Designer, Editor, Viewer).
- Anyone who can use AI in the project can write their own custom instructions.
- The Project brief works in any TeleportHQ project, including projects that didn't start with AI. A project needs a business description before its brief can be saved.
Update the project brief
- In the TeleportHQ editor, at the bottom of the left sidebar, click the Project settings cog.
- In the Project settings panel, under AI, click Project brief. The Project brief opens next to the panel.
- Under Business & brand, change what you need:
- Business description: what your business does, for whom, and how it should feel.
- Company / brand name, for example
Acme Inc. - Primary language of your site.
- Optional: under Onboarding Q&A, change the answers you gave to the setup questions. This section shows only if the setup asked questions.
- Click Save changes. You see "AI settings updated".
The Project brief can show two more sections, for reading only:
- Documents: the documents you attached when you set the project up with AI. Their rules and facts apply to every AI run in the project, including the AI Assistant. You can download them from here.
- Website: screenshots of the website the project was imported from. The AI used them only to see what each page is for; it didn't copy their layout or design.
Add custom instructions for the AI Assistant
- In the TeleportHQ Project settings panel, under AI, click Assistant.
- Under Custom instructions, type your rules in Standing instructions for the assistant (up to 10,000 characters). For example:
Always use British English. Keep headings under 8 words. Prefer minimal, accessible markup.
The instructions save on their own a moment after you stop typing. There's no Save button.
From the AI Assistant: at the top of the chat, click Settings, then under Project, click Business, brand & custom instructions. A window opens with the same details as tabs: Business & brand, Onboarding Q&A, Documents and Website (when the project has them), and Custom Requirements, which holds your custom instructions. Click Save changes when you're done.
Check that it worked
Open the Project brief again: your changes are there. The next time you use AI in the project, for example to generate a page or to chat with the AI Assistant, it works from the new details. The AI Assistant follows your custom instructions in every request.
Troubleshooting
"Only project owners and admins can edit these. Ask an admin to make changes." Your role can't change the business details. Ask the owner or an admin. You can still write your own custom instructions under Assistant.
Save changes is greyed out Either nothing has changed yet, or the Business description is empty. Every project needs a business description, so type one before you save.
"Could not update AI settings" Try again. If it keeps failing, reload the editor.
I can't find AI Settings in the project-name menu It moved. The business details are now in Project settings → AI → Project brief, and custom instructions are in Project settings → AI → Assistant.
Good to know
- Changes don't rewrite existing pages. To update pages already built, ask the AI Assistant, or regenerate them.
- Custom instructions are personal. They're saved to your account for this project, so collaborators don't get your instructions, and you don't get theirs.
- Custom instructions are for the AI Assistant. One-click tools such as Rewrite with AI follow only the option you pick, so put a rule like British spelling into that request.
- Good custom instructions are short rules the AI should always follow: spelling, tone, words to avoid, accessibility requirements. Put one-off requests in the chat instead.
