How to choose which page is your homepage
In TeleportHQ, the homepage is the page visitors see when they open your site's main address, for example mybakery.com. To change it, right-click a page in the Pages list, click Set as Homepage, then confirm in the window that says what changes. The page gets a home icon, its address becomes /, and its old address sends visitors to /.
Before you start
- Every TeleportHQ project has exactly one homepage (in a new blank project it's called Home). You only need these steps if you want a different page to be the homepage.
- You need a role that can edit pages.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click the layers icon (tooltip Pages, Components & Tree View).
- In the Pages list, right-click the page you want as your homepage. You can also click the … button at the end of its row.
- Click Set as Homepage.
- A window titled Set as Homepage says what changes, for example: "About becomes the home page, at
/. Home stays at/home; links to it keep working./aboutwill send visitors to/." Click Set as Homepage to confirm, or Cancel.
Check that it worked
In the Pages list, a small home icon now shows next to the page you picked, and the old homepage no longer has it. The redirect from the page's old address is listed under Custom Redirects in Project settings (cog, bottom left) → SEO & social → Search engines. The change reaches your live site the next time you publish. See How to publish your site.
Troubleshooting
Set as Homepage is greyed out The page is already the homepage, or it is your 404 "page not found" page. To use the 404 page as your homepage, first set a different page as the 404 page.
"404 page can't be marked as home" The page you chose is your 404 page. A page can't be both. See How to create a custom 404 "page not found" page.
"Details page can't be marked as home" The page is a details page, which shows one item from a data source (for example, one product). Its address changes per item, so it can't live at /. Pick a normal page.
"Custom redirect is not available for the homepage." You tried to turn on Custom Redirect in the homepage's Page SEO Settings. The homepage can't redirect. Add the redirect on another page instead.
Good to know
- The homepage's address is always
/. In Page SEO Settings, the URL field is greyed out for the homepage. - A custom URL doesn't get in the way. A page that had its own URL, such as
/welcome, opens at/once it's the homepage, and/welcomesends visitors to/with a permanent redirect, so links people saved keep working. If another page becomes the homepage later, the page goes back to/welcomein the editor, but the redirect stays: remove it under Custom Redirects so visitors reach the page again. See How to hide a page from Google, set a canonical URL or redirect a page. - The homepage can't be deleted or excluded from your published site. To remove it, set another page as the homepage first. See How to rename, duplicate or delete a page.
- Your old homepage keeps its content. It becomes a normal page with an address based on its name, for example
/home, or the URL you gave it.
