How to rename, duplicate or delete a page
In TeleportHQ, every page has a menu in the Pages list of the Pages, Components & Tree View panel. Right-click the page (or click the … button at the end of its row), then choose Rename, Duplicate or Delete. Your homepage can't be deleted: set another page as the homepage first.
Before you start
- Open the page list: in the left sidebar, click the layers icon (tooltip Pages, Components & Tree View), or press Ctrl+2 (Cmd+2 on a Mac).
- You need a role that can edit pages. Viewers can't rename, duplicate or delete pages.
Rename a page
Renaming a TeleportHQ page changes its name in the editor and, unless you set the address yourself, its web address too.
- In the Pages list, right-click the page.
- Click Rename. The name becomes editable.
- Type the new name, for example
Our menu. - Press Enter.
Faster options: double-click the page name in the list, or click the page and press F2.
After renaming:
- If you never typed a custom URL for the page, its address follows the new name, for example
/our-menu. If you did type one, the address stays the same. - Links to the page in your navigation and footer components get the new name, when their text was exactly the old page name. See Why do my menu links change when I add or rename a page?
- If another page or component already has that name, TeleportHQ adds a number, for example About1.
Duplicate a page
Duplicating a TeleportHQ page copies its whole layout into a new page, for example to build Service B from Service A. The copy also gets the page's workflows and page states, linked to the copied elements.
- In the Pages list, right-click the page.
- Click Duplicate. A copy appears in the list with a number added to its name, for example Service A1.
- Rename the copy (see the steps above).
You can also click the page in the list and press Ctrl+D (Cmd+D on a Mac). The copy gets its own unique web address. TeleportHQ doesn't add a link to the copy in your navigation or footer: add one yourself when the copy is ready for visitors.
Delete a page
Deleting a TeleportHQ page removes it and everything on it from your project.
- In the Pages list, right-click the page.
- Click Delete. If nothing links to the page and it has no form, the page is removed right away, without a confirmation.
- If the page contains a form that stores submissions, the Delete Page with Forms window opens. Click Delete Page and Deactivate Forms to continue.
- If other elements link to the page, a window named after it opens, for example Delete Services, with a line such as "4 elements link to Services: Navigation (3), Footer (1)." Choose what happens to those elements:
- Point them to another page: pick the page in the list below it (your homepage is offered first). The links lead there from now on.
- Keep them without the link: the elements stay where they are, without a link.
- Remove them: the links in your navigation and footer are removed. Other buttons and links stay, without their link.
- Click Delete page, or Cancel to keep the page.
The answer selected when the window opens follows the Remove links when a page is deleted switch in your editor preferences: Remove them while it's on (the default), Keep them without the link while it's off. See Why do my menu links change when I add or rename a page?
You can also click the page in the list and press Delete or Backspace. That deletes the page without asking about its links: the switch decides whether the navigation and footer links go, and every other link to the page loses its link.
If you deleted a page by mistake, press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac), or click Undo above the canvas, before you reload the editor. One undo brings back the page with its content and its menu links. After a reload, the undo history is gone: restore a backup instead.
Check that it worked
- Renamed: the new name shows in the Pages list and on the page's tab above the canvas.
- Duplicated: the copy shows in the Pages list, in the same folder, sorted by name.
- Deleted: the page is gone from the list and its tab is closed. Your live site changes the next time you publish.
Troubleshooting
Delete is greyed out You're trying to delete the homepage. In the Pages list, right-click another page, click Set as Homepage, then delete the old one. See How to choose which page is your homepage.
"You reached the maximum number of pages allowed in a project." A duplicate counts as a new page. On a trial, a project can have up to 200 pages. Delete pages you don't need, or subscribe to a paid plan.
"Product pages can't be copied. Create another one under E-Commerce → settings → Product pages." Store product pages can't be duplicated, because their workflows (add to cart, gallery, options) belong to their own elements. Create a new product page from the store settings.
"This is your standard product page. Delete your custom product pages first — every product without a page of its own is shown here." In a store, the standard product page can't be deleted while custom product pages exist. Delete the custom product pages first.
"The Custom Page cannot be duplicated: one page renders every page created in the admin panel." This special page belongs to the admin panel's custom pages. It can't be copied, and it can't be deleted while the admin panel is on.
My name changed to something with a number Page and component names must be unique. Pick a name that isn't used by any page or component, or by the built-in folders authentication, admin-panel, e-commerce, blog or help-center.
Good to know
- Slashes typed in a page name are removed. To make a nested address like
/services/cakes, set it in the page's URL field. See How to change a page's URL and create nested URLs. - Names like Map or Image are allowed, but in downloaded code the page's component name gets a
Customprefix. - On Pro and Premium, save a backup before a big cleanup. Backups aren't included in the trial. See How to back up and restore your project.
