How to send abandoned cart reminders

How to send abandoned cart reminders

To remind shoppers about items left in their cart in your TeleportHQ store, open E-Commerce Settings, switch on Abandoned Cart Reminders and click Configure Reminders. Choose how many hours a cart must sit untouched, adjust the email, and click Save Reminder Settings. Each signed-in shopper gets one reminder per cart. Reminders work on Trial, Pro and Premium workspaces.

Before you start

  • Your project needs an online store. See How to add a store to an existing project.
  • Your workspace must be on a trial, or on the Pro or Premium plan. When the trial or the subscription has ended, the row shows a PRO label and its switch opens an upgrade window. See plans and pricing.
  • Reminders only reach shoppers who are signed in: a guest's cart has no email address.
  • You can send reminders through your own email sending service (SendGrid, Resend, Mailgun, Postmark or MailerSend), or leave it unset to use TeleportHQ's default sender.

Steps

  1. In the left sidebar, click E-commerce. If you don't see it, click Plugins, then E-commerce, then Open next to E-commerce panel.
  2. At the top right of the E-Commerce panel, click the gear (E-Commerce Settings). The E-Commerce Setup panel opens.
  3. Switch on Abandoned Cart Reminders. The message "Abandoned-cart reminders enabled. Configure the email below." appears.
  4. Click Configure Reminders. The Abandoned Cart Reminders panel opens beside it.

  1. Under Reminder Timing, type how many hours after the last cart change to send the reminder, for example 2. You can choose from 1 to 720 hours.
  2. Optional: under Email Provider, choose your own sending service, paste its API key under Credentials, and fill in Sender Details (From Email, From Name, and Reply-To if you want one).
  3. Optional: under Email Content, change the Subject (by default "You left something in your cart at {{companyName}}"), or open the Body template to change its design.

  1. Click Save Reminder Settings.
  2. Publish your site so reminders start running.

Check that it worked

  • The message Abandoned cart reminder settings saved. appears.
  • To test, sign in to your published store as a shopper, add a product to the cart and leave. The store checks for idle carts once an hour, so the reminder arrives within an hour after the delay you chose.
  • The email can show the cart's products, the total and a link back to the cart.
  • Your site's admin panel lists every cart that got a reminder, under COMMERCE → Orders → Abandoned Carts. See What is the admin panel?.

Troubleshooting

Clicking the switch opens an upgrade window "Abandoned-cart reminder emails run on a schedule, which is available on paid plans." Your workspace's trial or subscription has ended. Upgrade to use reminders.

"Could not enable abandoned-cart reminders. Make sure your store has a connected database." Your store's database is missing. Check that it's still connected in Data Sources, then try again.

A warning icon shows next to Abandoned Cart Reminders "A custom email provider is selected but the sender email is missing. Open Configure Reminders to complete the setup." Open Configure Reminders and fill in From Email.

Shoppers don't get reminders Check that the shopper was signed in, that you published after turning reminders on, and that the cart wasn't changed or checked out in the meantime. If you use your own sending service, click Test Integration in the panel to send yourself a test email.

Good to know

  • Trial workspaces get reminders too. The row says "(paid plans only)", but reminders work during the trial as well.
  • One reminder per cart. A shopper isn't reminded again about the same cart.
  • Runs as a scheduled workflow. TeleportHQ adds a workflow named Abandoned Cart Reminder that runs every hour. If you delete that workflow, reminders stop and the switch turns off. See How to run a workflow on a schedule.
  • Add a discount. Mention a voucher code in the email to win shoppers back. See How to create discount codes.
  • To stop reminders, switch off Abandoned Cart Reminders and publish.

Which emails does the store send to you and your customers?

A TeleportHQ store emails you about new orders, low stock, new reviews and return requests, and emails customers their invoices, order updates, refunds, gift cards, downloads, subscription updates, return confirmations and abandoned cart reminders; all of them except the cart reminders go out through the one email sending service your project uses.

What shoppers see: cart, favorites and checkout

A TeleportHQ store gives shoppers a cart and a checkout page where they enter their details, choose delivery (and a shipping method, if you use shipping zones) or store pickup, apply discount codes and gift cards, and pay online or on delivery; you set up every part in E-Commerce Setup.

How to create discount codes

In TeleportHQ, switch on Vouchers in E-Commerce Settings, click Manage Vouchers → Add Voucher, type a code, choose the discount and what it applies to, add optional conditions and limits, and click Save voucher; shoppers type the code under Have a voucher? at checkout.

How to run a workflow on a schedule

In TeleportHQ, replace a workflow's trigger with Scheduled (Cron), pick a schedule such as Daily at 9 AM and a timezone, then publish your site; the workflow then runs on the server at those times with no visitor needed.

What is the admin panel?

The TeleportHQ admin panel is a back office that TeleportHQ builds for your web app at /admin/dashboard on your published site, where people with the admin role manage users, orders, products, bookings, invoices, blog posts and comments, files, sent emails and your own database tables, and build extra pages from blocks, without opening the editor.
