How to turn on product reviews and favorites

How to turn on product reviews and favorites

In TeleportHQ, you turn on product reviews and favorites with two switches in E-Commerce Settings: Allow Reviews and Allow Favourites. After you publish, signed-in shoppers can rate products from 1 to 5 stars and save products to a My Favourites page. Every review waits for your approval in your site's admin panel before it appears.

Before you start

  • Your project needs an online store. The store turns on user accounts (sign-up and login) by itself, and both features need them: only signed-in shoppers can review or save favorites. See How to add sign-up and login to your site.
  • To approve reviews, you need the admin panel on your published site and an admin account. See How to open the admin panel on your live site.
  • Reviews and favorites come with every TeleportHQ store. They need no extra plan.

Steps

1. Turn the features on

  1. In the left sidebar, click E-commerce. If you don't see it, click Plugins, then E-commerce, then Open next to E-commerce panel.
  2. At the top right of the E-Commerce panel, click the gear (E-Commerce Settings). The E-Commerce Setup panel opens.
  3. Switch on Allow Favourites to let shoppers save products. TeleportHQ adds a My Favourites page and heart buttons.
  4. Switch on Allow Reviews to let shoppers write reviews. TeleportHQ adds a reviews section to your product pages and a My Reviews page.
  5. Publish your site.

2. Approve or reject reviews

New reviews start as Pending. To moderate them in your TeleportHQ store's admin panel:

  1. Open the admin panel on your live site and sign in with your admin account.
  2. In the admin sidebar, under COMMERCE, open Catalog, then click Product Reviews.
  3. To decide one review, open it, set Status to Approved or Rejected, and click Save Changes.
  4. To decide several at once, tick them in the list, then click Accept All or Reject All and confirm.

Approved reviews show on their product pages. Rejected and pending reviews stay hidden.

What shoppers see

  • Reviews: on a product page, a signed-in shopper picks a star rating, writes a review, accepts the terms and can add up to 5 photos (PNG, JPG, WEBP or GIF, up to 5 MB each). They then see "Thank you! Your review has been submitted and is awaiting approval." Each shopper can review a product once, and can see and delete their own reviews on the My Reviews page.
  • Favorites: a signed-in shopper clicks the heart on a product to save it, and finds their saved products on My Favourites.

Check that it worked

  • On your published site, sign in as a shopper. Product pages show the review form, and product cards show a heart.
  • After you approve a review, its star rating shows on the product page and the product cards.
  • In the editor, you can design the favorites page with sample products: open My Favourites on the canvas and click Favourites in the bar above the canvas.

Troubleshooting

The switch is greyed out with "Reviews require authentication to be enabled first." or "Favourites require authentication to be enabled first." User accounts are off in this project. Turn on sign-up and login, then come back.

Shoppers see "Please sign in to write a review." Reviews are only for signed-in shoppers. This works as intended.

Shoppers see "You have already reviewed this product." Each shopper can review a product once. They can delete their review on My Reviews and write a new one.

Shoppers see "Please select a star rating.", "Please write a short review before submitting." or "Please accept the terms and conditions to continue." A required part of the form is missing. The message names it.

Shoppers see "We could not upload your photos. Please remove them and try again." A photo is too large or in another format. Use PNG, JPG, WEBP or GIF photos under 5 MB.

A review doesn't appear on the product page It hasn't been approved yet. Set its Status to Approved in Product Reviews.

Good to know

  • New review emails. Each new review emails the workspace owner "New review for [product]", with an Approve or reject review button that opens the review in your admin panel. It's sent through the email sending service your project uses, so it needs one. See Which emails does the store send to you and your customers?.
  • Deleting a product deletes its reviews.
  • Turning Allow Favourites off removes the My Favourites page and the heart buttons. Turning Allow Reviews off removes the reviews section, the My Reviews page and the rating filter of your products page.
  • Turning off e-commerce also removes the favorites and reviews pages.

What shoppers see: cart, favorites and checkout

A TeleportHQ store gives shoppers a cart and a checkout page where they enter their details, choose delivery (and a shipping method, if you use shipping zones) or store pickup, apply discount codes and gift cards, and pay online or on delivery; you set up every part in E-Commerce Setup.

How to open the admin panel on your live site

In TeleportHQ, the admin panel of your published web app is at your site address followed by /admin/dashboard (for example https://mybakery.teleporthq.app/admin/dashboard); the Publish window shows the link under "Admin panel is included", and you sign in with an account whose role is admin, which you can create with Create admin user.

How to add sign-up and login to your site

In TeleportHQ, you add sign-up and login by clicking the Authentication (padlock) button at the top left of the canvas, or Plugins → Authentication in the left sidebar, and following the Activate Authentication steps; TeleportHQ creates the sign-in, sign-up, password and profile pages, keeps the accounts in a database and makes your site a web app.

Which emails does the store send to you and your customers?

A TeleportHQ store emails you about new orders, low stock, new reviews and return requests, and emails customers their invoices, order updates, refunds, gift cards, downloads, subscription updates, return confirmations and abandoned cart reminders; all of them except the cart reminders go out through the one email sending service your project uses.

What is the admin panel?

The TeleportHQ admin panel is a back office that TeleportHQ builds for your web app at /admin/dashboard on your published site, where people with the admin role manage users, orders, products, bookings, invoices, blog posts and comments, files, sent emails and your own database tables, and build extra pages from blocks, without opening the editor.
