How to create discount codes
To create a discount code in your TeleportHQ store, open E-Commerce Settings, switch on Vouchers, then click Manage Vouchers → Add Voucher. Type a code like WELCOME10, choose the discount and which products it applies to, add optional conditions and limits, and click Save voucher. Shoppers type the code under Have a voucher? at checkout.
Before you start
- Your project needs an active store. See How to add a store to an existing project.
- A code is one way to give a discount. To mark a product down for everyone, see How to put products on sale. For a discount that applies on its own, with no code, see How to create automatic discounts.
- Vouchers are available on every plan.
Steps
1. Turn on vouchers
- In the left sidebar, click E-commerce (the card icon).
- At the top right of the E-Commerce panel, click the gear (E-Commerce Settings).
- In the E-Commerce Setup panel, scroll to Vouchers and switch it on. The first time, TeleportHQ shows "Setting up vouchers — creating the tables your codes are stored in…", then "Vouchers enabled. Create your first discount code from Manage Vouchers."
- Click Manage Vouchers, next to Vouchers. The Vouchers panel opens beside it.
2. Create the code
- In the Vouchers panel, click Add Voucher.
- In Voucher code, type a code, for example
WELCOME10, or click Generate for a random one. - Optional: in Description (optional), note what it's for, for example
Newsletter welcome offer. Only you see this. - Under Discount, choose a Discount type:
- Percentage: type the value in Discount (%), for example
10. - Fixed amount: type the value in Discount amount, for example
5. It's spread across the eligible products. - Free shipping: removes the delivery fee.
- Buy X, get Y: type Buy (units) and Get free (units). For every group of X + Y eligible items in the cart, the Y cheapest are free.
- Percentage: type the value in Discount (%), for example
- In Applies to, choose All products, Selected products or Categories, then pick the products or categories.
- Check Starts and Expires. A new code starts now and expires 7 days later. Clear Expires to keep the code valid with no end date.
3. Add conditions and limits (optional)
Under Conditions:
- Minimum order value: the goods total, tax included, before any discount. For example
40. - Minimum items: how many eligible items the cart must hold.
- First order only: only for a customer with no completed order yet (by account, or by billing email for guests).
Under Limits:
- Unlimited uses: switch it off and type Maximum uses, for example
100, to cap how many times the code can be used in total. - Uses per customer: how many times one customer may use it. Leave it empty for no limit.
- Combines with automatic discounts: on, the code adds to your automatic discounts. Off, it never shares an order with them, and the customer gets whichever saves more.
- Active: switch off to stop the code working without deleting it.
4. Save and publish
- Click Save voucher. The message Voucher WELCOME10 has been created. appears, and the code shows in the list.
- The first time you switch Vouchers on, publish your site so the Have a voucher? field appears on your live checkout. Codes you add or change later work on your live store without publishing again.
Create many single-use codes at once
For a campaign or a partner, you can generate a batch of codes that each work once:
- In the Vouchers panel, click Generate a batch (in an empty list), or the copy icon at the top right (Generate a batch of single-use codes).
- In Batch name, type a name you'll recognize, for example
Newsletter launch. - In Number of codes, type a number between 1 and 1000.
- Set the Discount, Conditions and Limits as for a single code. They apply to every code in the batch.
- Click Generate codes.
The batch shows under Generated batches. Click Export CSV to download its codes, for example to send them through your email tool.
Check that it worked
- In the Vouchers panel, the code shows with a status: Active, Scheduled, Expired, Disabled or Limit reached.
- In the editor, open your checkout page. Under the voucher field on the canvas, click Test a voucher and pick your code to preview the discount.
- On your published site, add a product to the cart, go to checkout, type the code under Have a voucher? and click Apply. You see "Voucher applied to your order." and a Discount line in the order summary.
Troubleshooting
"Another voucher already uses this code." Each code must be unique. Choose a different code.
"The end date must be after the start date." Fix Starts or Expires.
"Select at least one product or category, or let the discount apply to all products." Pick products or categories, or choose All products in Applies to.
The panel says "Your checkout page was built before vouchers existed…" or "…before voucher conditions existed…" Your checkout page is older than the feature. Click Recreate checkout page. It replaces the checkout page with a new one, so changes you made to the old page are lost. Then publish. Until you do, the form greys out or leaves out the conditions, Categories, Buy X, get Y, Uses per customer and Combines with automatic discounts.
Shoppers see one of these messages:
| Message | Why |
|---|---|
| "That voucher code is not valid." | No code matches what they typed. |

| "That voucher is no longer active." | The code's Active switch is off. |
| "That voucher has already been used the maximum number of times." | The code reached Maximum uses. |
| "You have already used that voucher as many times as it allows." | The customer reached Uses per customer. |
| "Your order does not reach the minimum amount for that voucher." | The cart is below Minimum order value. |
| "Your order does not have enough eligible items for that voucher." | The cart has fewer items than Minimum items. |
| "That voucher is only valid on a first order." | First order only is on and the customer has ordered before. |
| "That voucher does not apply to any items in your cart." | None of the cart's products are covered by Applies to. |
| "Shipping is already free for your order." | It's a Free shipping code and delivery is already free. |
| "That voucher cannot be combined with the discount chosen for your order…" | The code doesn't combine with automatic discounts. The shopper can pick it under Choose your discount instead. |
Good to know
- Code format. Codes are letters, numbers,
-and_, up to 50 characters. TeleportHQ turns letters into capitals, and shoppers can type them in any case. - One code per order. Once a code is applied, the field is replaced by the applied code until the shopper removes it.
- See how a code performs: click a code to see Times used, Total discount given and Recent orders.
- Announce it: in a code's details, click Create email to draft an email about it with AI in Growth. See How to create an email or SMS campaign.
- Delete a code: click its bin icon (Delete voucher) and confirm. The code stops working at once. Orders that already used it keep their discount.
- Turning Vouchers off removes the checkout field after you publish, and keeps your codes.
- Checked again at purchase. If a code expires or runs out while a shopper is checking out, the order is stopped before it's placed.
- No codes for subscriptions or gift cards. The voucher field is hidden when the cart holds a subscription or a gift card, and gift cards are never discounted.
