How to organize projects in folders
In TeleportHQ, folders group the projects in a workspace, for example one folder per client. On your dashboard, click + New Folder in the Folders section, name the folder and click Create. Then open a project card's ⋯ menu, click Move to Folder, pick the folder and click Move. Folders are available on paid plans, and only workspace owners and admins can manage them.
Before you start
- Folders need a paid plan, such as Pro or Premium. Trial and expired workspaces don't show the Folders section.
- You need to be the workspace Owner or an Admin to create, rename, delete or move folders and projects.
- Folders can be nested 2 levels deep: a folder can have subfolders, but subfolders can't have their own subfolders.
Create a folder
- On your TeleportHQ dashboard, select the workspace in the left sidebar.
- In the Folders section, click + New Folder.
- In the Create Folder window, type a name for the folder, for example
Clients. - Click Create, or press Enter.
Create a subfolder
- In the Folders section, hover the folder and click its ⋯ menu.
- Click Add Subfolder.
- In the Create Subfolder window, type a name, for example
Landing pages. - Click Create.
Move a project into a folder
- On the dashboard, hover the project card and click its ⋯ menu.
- Click Move to Folder. A list of your folders opens, with the workspace name at the top. The project's current location is marked current.
- Click the folder you want. To take a project out of all folders, click the workspace name.
- Click Move.
To move many projects at once, see How to move or delete several projects at once.
Open a folder
Click a folder card to open it. The folder card shows how many projects and subfolders it holds. To go back, click the workspace name in the path at the top of the page.
New projects you create, or templates you start from, while inside a folder are saved in that folder.
Rename a folder
- Hover the folder card and click its ⋯ menu.
- Click Rename.
- In the Rename Folder window, type the new name.
- Click Rename.
Delete a folder
- Hover the folder card and click its ⋯ menu.
- Click Delete. The Delete folder window opens. If the folder holds projects, it says, for example, "The 2 projects inside will be moved to the root level."
- Tick I understand this will permanently delete “Clients”, with your folder's name.
- Choose what happens to the projects inside:
- To keep them, leave the second box unticked. They're moved out of the folder to the top level of the workspace.
- To delete them too, tick Also delete the N projects inside — this cannot be undone.
- Click Delete folder.
Check that it worked
A message confirms each change, for example "Folder was successfully created." or "Project was successfully moved." The project now appears inside the folder instead of at the top level.
Troubleshooting
There's no Folders section on the dashboard The workspace isn't on a paid plan, or you're viewing Shared projects. Folders appear once the workspace owner subscribes to a paid plan. See What's the difference between Trial, Pro and Premium?.
"Folders can only be nested 2 levels deep." You tried to add a subfolder inside a subfolder. Create it in a top-level folder instead.
The Move button is dimmed You haven't picked a new place yet. The project's current folder is marked current and can't be picked. Click a different folder, or the workspace name.
"Could not create folder. Please try again." or "Could not move project. Please try again." The change didn't save. Refresh the page and try again.
Good to know
- Folder names can be 1 to 100 characters long.
- Folders also control who sees projects. Members only see the folders they've been given access to. Projects at the top level of the workspace, outside any folder, are visible to every member. See How to control who can see a project folder.
- If the workspace's paid plan ends, the Folders section disappears and every project is shown in one list. The folders and the projects' places in them are kept, and they come back if the workspace subscribes again.
