How to reset or change your password
To reset or change your TeleportHQ password, request a reset link: sign out, open the Reset your password page, enter your account's email address and click Reset password. Then click the link in the email, type a new password and click Save password. The link opens the new-password form even if you're signed in on that browser, and after you save, TeleportHQ signs you out so you sign in with the new password. There's no "change password" option in Account Settings, so this is also how you change a password you still know.
Before you start
- Sign out before you request the link. While you're signed in, the Reset your password page sends you to the dashboard. The link in the email works whether you're signed in or not. To sign out, on the dashboard point at your name at the top of the left sidebar, click the ⋯ icon that appears, then click Log Out.
- Use the email address of your TeleportHQ account.
- If you sign in with Google, GitHub or Microsoft, you don't need a TeleportHQ password.
Steps
1. Request the reset link
- Go to play.teleporthq.io/signin.
- Type your email address and click Continue. The Type your password to Sign in screen opens.
- Under the password field, in "Did you forget your password ?", click forget your password. The Reset your password page opens. You can also go straight to play.teleporthq.io/forgot.
- Under "Enter the email address used to create your account", type your email. For example,
anna@sunnybakery.com. - Click Reset password. The page says "Thank you! We sent a link to reset your password".
2. Set a new password
- Open the email and click the reset link. It opens in your browser even if you're signed in to TeleportHQ there.
- The page Setup a new password for shows your email address.
- Type a new password with at least 8 characters. Click the eye icon to check what you typed.
- Click Save password. If you were signed in on this browser, TeleportHQ signs you out. The Sign in page opens.
- Sign in with your email and the new password.
Check that it worked
You can sign in with the new password. TeleportHQ doesn't show a success message after Save password; the Sign in page opening is the sign that it worked.
Troubleshooting
I didn't get the reset email TeleportHQ shows "Thank you! We sent a link…" even when no account uses that address. You only receive the email if an account uses that address.
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Check the address for typos, and try any other email you might have used.
- Click Try resending it! (in "Didn't receive an email? Try resending it!") to go back to the form, and request the link again.
- If you signed up with Google, GitHub or Microsoft, sign in with that button instead.
"Invalid or expired link. Click here to get a new reset password link" The link is too old or was already used. Click the link in the message to request a new one, and use the newest email. If you're signed in on that browser, log out first: the Reset your password page sends a signed-in account to the dashboard.
"Password must have at least 8 characters" Choose a longer password. Spaces at the start and end don't count.
The Reset your password page takes me to the dashboard You're signed in. Log out, then open play.teleporthq.io/forgot again.
The link in the email opened my workspace This is fixed: the link now opens Setup a new password for even while you're signed in. If your workspace still opens, request a new link and click it straight from the newest email, rather than copying it.
"Email is not valid" Check the address you typed. It needs an @ and a domain, for example anna@sunnybakery.com.
"An unexpected error occurred, please try again later" Wait a minute and request a new link.
Good to know
- The reset link only works once.
- Resetting your password doesn't change your Google, GitHub or Microsoft sign-in, if you also have one.
- If you were working on a project without an account in that browser, saving the new password doesn't end that guest session. When you sign in, TeleportHQ still offers to save the project to your workspace. See How to keep a project you built before signing up.
