How to start a project from a template
In TeleportHQ, you start from a template on your dashboard: click + New Project, choose the kind of project you want (Presentation Website, E-commerce, Web App or Bookings), and scroll to Or continue with a template. Browse by category or search, open Quick Preview to look closer, then click Start Building. TeleportHQ copies the template into your workspace as a new project that you can edit however you like.
Before you start
- Starting from a template creates a new project, so your workspace needs room for one more. A trial workspace holds 1 project. See How many projects can I have?.
- Each TeleportHQ account can start from up to 10 different templates in total. Using a template you already used before doesn't count again.
Steps
- On your dashboard, at the top right, click + New Project.
- In the Create Project panel, click the kind of project you want: Presentation Website, E-commerce, Web App or Bookings. A panel for that kind opens. It lists only templates of that kind.
- Scroll down to Or continue with a template.
- Find a template:
- In the list on the left, click a category, or All templates.
- Or type in Search templates..., for example
bakery. - On the E-commerce panel, you can also narrow the stores by what they sell: Everything, Physical products, Digital products or Subscriptions.
- Hover a template card to see its buttons.
- Optional: click Quick Preview to see the template in a larger window. If the template is published, View Fullscreen opens the live site in a new browser tab. If it isn't, the window shows a screenshot and says "Not published yet — showing a screenshot".
- Click Start Building, on the card or at the top or bottom of the preview. The panel closes and your new project opens in the editor.
Check that it worked
Your new project opens in the TeleportHQ editor with the template's pages and design. On your dashboard, it appears as a new card named after the template. If you already have a project with that name, a number is added to the end.
If you were inside a folder when you clicked + New Project, the project is saved in that folder.
Troubleshooting
A template card shows a lock and "Limit reached" You've already started from 10 different templates with this account, which is the most one account can use. Above the gallery, TeleportHQ says "You have started from 10 different templates, the most one account can. The ones you already used stay available." You can still use any of the templates you started from before. Deleting those projects or creating another workspace doesn't give templates back.
"You have reached the limit of 10 different templates per account. You can keep building on the templates you already started from." The same limit, shown when you click Start Building. Pick one of the templates you've used before, or start a Blank project or Generate with AI instead. To reuse your own project as a starting point, see How to duplicate a project.
"You are cloning projects too quickly. Up to 2 clones per minute and 10 per hour are allowed — please wait and try again." You can start from up to 2 templates per minute and 10 per hour. Wait a minute, then click Start Building again. Copies of your own projects don't count toward this limit.
"Templates could not be loaded right now." The template gallery didn't load. Click Try again.
"Workspace has reached project limit" The workspace already holds as many projects as its plan allows. Delete a project or upgrade the workspace. See Why can't I create a new project?.
Good to know
- Above the gallery, TeleportHQ shows how many templates you have left, for example "You can start from 7 more templates with this account (3 of 10 used)."
- Each card shows the template's name, a description, its category and how many pages it has.
- A template copy is yours. Changes you make don't affect the original template or anyone else's copy.
- The kind of template decides the kind of project. A Presentation Website template makes a website: it can download its code on a paid plan, unless you later add web app features. An E-commerce, Web App or Bookings template makes a web app: the choice is permanent, its code can't be downloaded, and it needs a Web App slot to stay online after 7 days. See What's the difference between a website and a web app?.
- No templates of a kind yet? Then that kind's card on the Create Project panel skips the template panel and starts the AI setup straight away.
- Your own templates. TeleportHQ doesn't let you add your own projects to the template gallery, but you can reuse any of your projects by cloning it. See How to duplicate a project.
