How to create your first website in TeleportHQ

To create your first website in TeleportHQ, sign up for a free account, click + New Project, choose Presentation Website and then Generate with AI. Describe your business, pick a style, colors and fonts, and TeleportHQ's AI builds your pages. Then edit anything you like and click Publish to put the site online at a free TeleportHQ web address.

Before you start

  • You need a TeleportHQ account. New accounts start with a free 7-day trial, with no credit card needed. See How to create a TeleportHQ account.
  • Use a computer. TeleportHQ needs a browser window at least 767 pixels wide.
  • Generating a site with AI uses AI tokens. The trial includes 30,000 AI tokens, given once. See What are AI tokens?.

Steps

1. Create your account

  1. Open the TeleportHQ Sign up for free page and sign up with your email, Google, GitHub or Microsoft.
  2. If you signed up with an email and password, open the confirmation email and click the link.
  3. A window titled Your 7 day free trial is live appears, either over the welcome questions or on your dashboard. Click Keep exploring to close it.
  4. Answer the four welcome questions, then click Let's build something!. Your dashboard opens.

Your account comes with a workspace named My workspace, where your projects are stored.

2. Start an AI website

  1. At the top right of the dashboard, click + New Project.

  1. The Create Project panel shows five kinds of project: E-commerce, Web App, Bookings, Presentation Website and Blank project. Click Presentation Website ("Presents your business — no accounts, store or bookings; code you can download").

  1. The Presentation Website panel offers Generate with AI, Blank project and a list of templates. Click Generate with AI. TeleportHQ creates your project, opens it in the editor and starts the AI setup.

The AI setup has four stages, shown at the top: Business, Design preferences, Colors & fonts and Build.

3. Describe your business

  1. In Business description, type a few sentences about your business, who it serves and how it should feel. For example: A family bakery in Portland selling sourdough bread and custom birthday cakes. Warm, friendly and homemade.
  2. Click Next. You can also press Enter.

4. Choose the look of your site

  1. On Design preferences, pick a Theme Mode, for example Light Only.
  2. Pick an Animation Level, from None (a still site) to High (bolder motion, with sections that play out as you scroll). The AI suggests a level for your business and marks it AI Selected. Keep it if you're not sure.
  3. Check the Page Layout. Standard gives full-width pages with a menu at the top.
  4. Click Next.

  1. On Colors & fonts, click one palette under Color Palettes.
  2. Click one pairing under Font Pairings.
  3. To ask for your own brand colors, click Regenerate next to Color Palettes and type them, for example use dark brown and cream.
  4. Click Next.

5. Let the AI build your pages

  1. The Designing your project screen plans your pages and their sections. There's nothing to click. When the plan is ready, it says how many pages it planned and how many it's building now.

  1. The editor opens while the AI builds your pages. At the top right, a small Generating panel shows the build on one line.

  1. To see each page's progress bar, click the Generating panel.
The Generating panel opened, with a progress bar and the current step for each page being built
  1. Wait until the pages finish. The Generating panel disappears when they're done, and TeleportHQ also emails you.

On a trial, the AI builds one page right away. On a paid plan, it builds up to four. It also plans the rest of your site: those pages show in the pages list with a Create button, so you can build them later. See How to build the rest of your planned pages later.

6. Make your changes

  1. To change a text, double-click it on the canvas and type.
  2. To change a photo, double-click the image. The Assets Manager opens so you can pick another image.
  3. To ask the AI for a change, click the AI Assistant button above the top right of the canvas and describe what you want, for example Add a section with our opening hours.

7. Preview and publish

  1. In the floating toolbar at the bottom of the editor, click Preview. Your site opens in a new tab so you can click through it.
  2. Go back to the editor tab. At the top right, click Publish. The Publish window opens on its Publish tab, with Production selected.
  3. Click Publish to Production. Publishing can take a few minutes. The bottom of the window shows its progress, and you can keep working while it runs.

Check that it worked

When publishing finishes, a message appears: "Your application is ready at:" followed by your site's address, for example https://sunny-bakery.teleporthq.app. In the Publish window, the status next to the address changes to Published. Open the link to see your live site.

Below the address, a line starting After publishing: says whether visitors would run into anything, such as a broken link. Click it to see the list.

Troubleshooting

"You need more tokens to continue with this operation. Please purchase more tokens." Your workspace doesn't have enough AI tokens for this step. The Purchase Tokens window opens so you can buy more. See What happens when I run out of AI tokens?.

"We hit a problem" on the Designing your project screen Click Try again.

A page shows "Generation failed" or "Generation didn't finish" Click Try again or Retry on that page. AI work that already ran before a page failed can still use AI tokens. See What happens while AI builds your site (and if it fails).

"Your project is still generating. Please wait for it to finish before publishing." Wait until the Generating panel disappears, then click Publish again.

"Workspace has reached project limit" This window appears when you click + New Project and the workspace is full. A trial workspace holds 1 project. If you already created one, open it from the dashboard instead. See How many projects can I have?.

Good to know

  • Sites published on a trial show a TeleportHQ watermark. Subscribing to Pro or Premium removes it.
  • Your trial lasts 7 days. When it ends without a subscription, your site goes offline and your project is archived. See How does the TeleportHQ free trial work?.
  • Changes don't go live on their own. After editing, click Publish again to update your live site.
  • Your own domain. You can connect a domain you own, such as mybakery.com, after your first publish. See How to connect your own domain.
  • On the trial, your published site asks for a password. Every publish of a workspace without a paid subscription is password-protected. Copy the password from the Password Protection option in the Publish window and share it with the people who should see the site. Subscribe to Pro or Premium to make the site public. See Why does my published site ask for a password?.
  • Your trial address ends in teleporthq.app. The Publish window may show .teleporthq.site during the trial, but your live trial site is at an address ending in .teleporthq.app. After you subscribe to Pro or Premium, your next publish moves the site to .teleporthq.site, so links you shared during the trial change. See How to publish your site.
