What happens when I run out of AI tokens?

When your TeleportHQ workspace doesn't have enough AI tokens for a task, the AI feature doesn't start. You see a message such as "You need more tokens to continue with this operation. Please purchase more tokens.", and the Purchase Tokens window opens. Your project and everything that isn't AI keep working. To use AI again, buy a token pack, earn free tokens, or wait for your plan's next 30-day reset.

How to tell you're out of AI tokens

  • The N tokens remaining button on the dashboard, and the N tokens button in the editor's floating toolbar, turn orange.
  • An AI feature shows one of the messages below instead of starting.
  • Everything that isn't AI keeps working: editing, publishing, forms and your live site.

Fixes

  1. Buy tokens. Click the orange token button, pick a package in Purchase Tokens and click Purchase. See How to buy more AI tokens.
  2. Wait for your monthly reset. On Pro, Premium and Academic, your monthly tokens reset every 30 days. Workspace Settings → General shows your Monthly bonus refill:.
  3. Subscribe or upgrade. Trial tokens aren't refilled. Pro includes 100,000 tokens every 30 days and Premium 150,000. See How to subscribe to Pro or Premium.
  4. Earn free tokens. See How to earn free AI tokens.
  5. Use a cheaper option. For example, build a presentation website instead of a web app, or pick a stock image instead of an AI image.

Messages you may see

"You need more tokens to continue with this operation. Please purchase more tokens." Shown for most AI actions. In the editor, the Purchase Tokens window opens with "You need more tokens to continue with this operation. Choose a token package below:". Buy a pack, or close the window and try later.

"Not enough tokens to perform operation." Shown in the AI Assistant chat. Buy tokens, then send your message again.

"Your token balance does not cover this generation. You need about N more tokens. Add more tokens and try again." Shown in the AI website builder before building starts. For a web app it ends with "Add more tokens, or switch off web app features." instead. Buy at least the amount shown, or switch off web app features to build a website.

"A web app needs at least 20,000 tokens to generate. Add more tokens, or continue with a presentation website." Shown when you start a web app with AI, for example with the E-commerce, Web App or Bookings card of the new-project window: a web app needs a bigger balance to start. The Purchase Tokens window opens. Buy tokens, or pick Presentation Website instead.

"Your token balance does not cover another page. You need about N more tokens." Shown when you ask AI for another page. Buy tokens, or build the page by hand.

"N pages are already being generated, and your remaining tokens are reserved for them. You need about N more tokens. Wait for them to finish, or add more tokens to queue this page too." Your tokens are held for pages that are still being built. Wait for them to finish, then try again.

"You do not have enough tokens to generate a section. Please purchase more tokens." or "You do not have enough tokens to generate a page. Please purchase more tokens." Shown in Create Section Using AI and Create Page Using AI. Buy tokens, or add a ready-made section or page instead.

"You don't have enough tokens to generate a video." Click Buy tokens in the window, or use a stock video.

"You need about 1,500 tokens to refine a page. Add more tokens to use this." Refine needs about 1,500 tokens. Buy tokens to use it.

"You don't have enough tokens for this import.", "You do not have enough tokens to generate SEO metadata." or "You do not have enough tokens to generate an Open Graph image." Buy tokens, or fill in the content or SEO fields yourself.

"Your workspace does not have enough tokens to translate. Top up, then try again." Shown when you translate content into another language. Buy tokens, or translate the texts yourself.

"Not enough AI tokens to translate the content: it needs N AI tokens and your workspace has N AI tokens." Shown in the Change the project language to … window when you change your project's language. Click Buy AI tokens, or turn off the Translate switches: if you continue, only the language changes and the content keeps its current language.

What happens if tokens run out in the middle of a task

  • A task that has already started normally finishes. TeleportHQ holds back the tokens it needs when it starts.
  • Website builds are sized to your balance, so pages don't stop halfway. Pages that couldn't be built stay in your site map, and you can create them later.
  • Small automatic extras are skipped when tokens are low, such as AI-written SEO text or social images. Your page still works.
  • A failed AI task is charged for the AI work it already did. A task that fails before the AI starts working costs nothing. AI work that was still finishing in the background when the task failed is charged afterwards.

Good to know

  • Purchased tokens are spent last, after monthly tokens. See What are AI tokens?.
  • If the workspace is locked because its trial or subscription ended, the owner needs to subscribe before anyone can buy tokens from the dashboard.

To buy AI tokens in TeleportHQ, click N tokens remaining next to your workspace name on the dashboard (or Purchase tokens in the editor), pick a token package in the Purchase Tokens window, click Purchase and pay by card on Stripe; purchased tokens never expire and are non-refundable.

AI tokens are the credits TeleportHQ uses for AI features such as generating websites, pages, sections and images and chatting with the AI Assistant; a trial gets 30,000 once, Pro resets to 100,000 every 30 days, Premium to 150,000, and tokens you buy or earn never expire.

What uses AI tokens, and how much?

In TeleportHQ, every AI feature uses AI tokens for the AI work it really does, so costs vary; as a guide, an AI website page is about 3,000 tokens, a web app page about 15,000, a new section at least 1,500 and a 4-second AI video about 9,000, while stock images cost nothing, a run that fails before the AI works costs nothing, and AI 3D models aren't available yet.

How to earn free AI tokens

You can earn free TeleportHQ AI tokens by referring people who subscribe through the Affiliate Program (the How it works section on the Affiliate tab shows the reward), completing Quests, answering the AI feedback survey (500 tokens, at most once every 7 days) and subscribing before your trial ends (25,000 bonus tokens for the first month).

How to subscribe to Pro or Premium

To subscribe a TeleportHQ workspace, open Workspace Settings → Plans, click Choose Pro or Choose Premium, pick monthly or yearly billing and any add-ons, then pay on the Stripe checkout page; the plan starts as soon as the payment is confirmed.
