What uses AI tokens, and how much?
Every AI feature in TeleportHQ uses AI tokens, and the amount depends on how much AI work the task really takes. As a rough guide, an AI-generated website page uses about 3,000 tokens, a web app page about 15,000, a new section at least 1,500 and a 4-second AI video about 9,000. Stock photos and videos cost nothing, a task that fails before the AI did any work isn't charged, and AI 3D models aren't available yet.
How TeleportHQ charges AI tokens
- Before a task starts, TeleportHQ checks that your workspace has at least a minimum balance for that kind of task, and holds that amount back.
- While the task runs, the AI does the work. Longer prompts, bigger pages and longer chats need more AI work.
- When it finishes, you're charged for the AI work actually used, and the rest of the held amount is returned. A big task can cost more than the minimum it needed to start. Some AI work keeps running in the background for a few seconds after a task reports it's done; TeleportHQ charges for it afterwards, in the same way.
- If the task fails before the AI did any work, nothing is charged. If the AI already worked and a later step failed, that work is charged, even when it's recorded after the task failed.
So the same action can cost a different amount each time. The numbers below are typical amounts or the minimum balance a task needs to start.

AI that runs without a click
Some AI work starts on its own and uses a small amount of tokens:
- Adding a ready-made section with Use AI to generate content switched on (it is by default) writes its texts for your site.
- Adding a page by hand lets AI add links to it in your navigation and footer. Skipped when your balance is under 1,000.
- Adding a language with Automatically translate content on (the default) translates your pages, and AI picks where the language switcher goes (skipped under 1,000).
- Changing the project's language asks first: the Change the project language to … window has switches to translate pages and components, posts or articles, products and booking items, each with its cost. Turn them off to change the language without translating.
- Opening the AI panel of an image, a text or a page first writes a short summary of the page, so the AI knows what it's about.
- Turning on e-commerce creates three sample products with AI when you have at least 4,000 tokens.
- Setting up list pages: at the end of an AI build, and when you switch on a store, Bookings, a blog or a help center later in a project the AI built, AI chooses the list page's filters, search, sort, paging and cards. It needs at least 100 tokens to start: with fewer, this step is skipped and the list pages stay as they were built. Project Costs counts it under Initial Project Generation. See What happens while AI builds your site.
- Publishing, and exporting or viewing your code as Next or React, first rewrites the AI-written schema markup (a page's Page settings → Schema markup) of every page whose content changed since. Each page needs at least 500 tokens to start, and the rewrites stop when your balance runs short. Schema markup you edited by hand is never replaced. Project Costs lists this work as Page Schema Markup (JSON-LD). To turn it off, switch off Keep Schema Markup Up To Date in Project settings → SEO & social → Search engines. See How to add schema markup (structured data) to your pages.
- Growth: the What this means summary of a site health or contrast check is written when the check finishes or you open its results. Opening New campaign asks AI for goal suggestions. Apply fixes with AI starts as soon as its window opens.
Why the AI Assistant can cost more over time
The AI Assistant reads the conversation so far each time you send a message. A long chat with a lot of context costs more per message than a new chat. To save tokens, start a New chat when you change topic. Each reply is charged for the AI work it did, even when it changed nothing or you stopped it. A reply that fails before the AI starts working costs nothing. See What can the TeleportHQ AI Assistant do?.
How to see what used your AI tokens
- Open a project in the editor.
- At the top center, click the project name.
- Click AI Costs & Usage.
The Project Costs window lists each AI task with its Date, Operation and Token Credits, and shows Total Token Credits: and Total Requests:. You can filter by project, type of task and date. Translations are filtered under Translations and summed on a Translations (Total) line, and the AI steps of a booking site show as Bookings Setup. See How to see what AI has cost your workspace.
Good to know
- Some extras are skipped when tokens are low. AI-written SEO text, social images and navigation links only run if you have enough tokens. Nothing breaks if they're skipped.
- A multi-page build is sized to your balance, so a website build doesn't stop halfway. The first page is always built.
