What happens while AI builds your site (and if it fails)

When TeleportHQ's AI builds your pages, a Generating panel at the top right of the editor shows each page's progress, and a page that is still building can't be edited yet. TeleportHQ builds up to 4 items at the same time and queues the rest. When all pages are done, TeleportHQ emails you. If a page fails, click Try again or Retry: failed pages don't use your AI tokens.

The Generating panel

The Generating panel floats at the top right of the TeleportHQ editor whenever AI is building something: right after the AI Website Builder, or when you generate a page, section or component later.

  • During the first build, the panel starts as a single line, for example Generating (3) · 2 queued. Click it to open the list.
  • Each row shows what is being built (Page, Section, Component or Design), its name, a timer and a progress bar.
  • Below the progress bar, the row shows its steps, such as Setting up data..., Generating design..., Optimizing code... and Validating....
  • When a page gets a scroll story (a section that plays out as visitors scroll), its row shows Staging scroll story..., then Scroll story ready. This happens only with the Medium or High animation level.
  • Click Open on a row to go to that page. If the page doesn't exist yet, the button can't be used and its tooltip reads "Page or component not created yet".
  • Use the arrow to collapse the panel again, or the X to dismiss it. Dismissing it doesn't stop the generation.

Why some pages say "Queued": TeleportHQ builds at most 4 items at the same time. The others wait under Queued ({k}) — waiting for an available slot and start on their own. A queued page that depends on another one says Waiting for “{page}” to finish….

Why pages wait at the start: the navigation, footer and logo are built first, because every page uses them. Until then, pages show Waiting for the navigation, footer and logo….

What you see on the canvas

When you open a page that is still being built, TeleportHQ shows a message on the canvas, and a short label next to your pointer when you point at the page:

  • "I'm generating this page. You'll be able to interact with it after I finish." The pointer label reads Generating this page…. The page is locked until it's done.
  • "This page is queued for generation. You'll be able to edit it after it generates." The pointer label reads Waiting to generate this page….
  • "This page finished generating — I'm still adding it to your project." The pointer label reads Importing this page….
  • Reconnecting to this page's generation… means your connection dropped. The generation resumes on its own once the connection is back.

How long it takes, and can I close the tab?

Each page takes a few minutes, and bigger projects take longer. The Generating panel shows how long each page has been running, but TeleportHQ doesn't show a time estimate.

Keep the TeleportHQ editor open until your pages finish: finished pages are added to your project by the open editor. If your connection drops, you see "Connection dropped while importing a page. Import will retry when you're back online, or Retry import." The editor retries a page by itself up to 8 times; after that, click Retry import. Nothing is lost if the editor closes: finished pages wait on TeleportHQ's servers, and the next time you open the project, in any browser, the editor adds the ones your project is still missing.

The email when everything is done

When the navigation, the footer and every page from the first build are finished, TeleportHQ sends one email to the person who started the generation. It links back to your project in the editor.

How the AI sets up your list pages

When TeleportHQ's AI finishes building a project with a store, Bookings, a blog or a help center, it sets up each of their list pages for your business: category tabs or a category filter, search, sort, which filters show and where they sit, how many items a page shows and how more items load, and the cards' layout (Grid, Spotlight, Bento, Editorial, Masonry or Rows) and colours. It does the same when you switch one of these features on later in a project the AI built.

  • Short lists show on one page. When the AI expects your list to stay under about a hundred items, the page shows at least 50 items and loads more as the visitor scrolls, so no page buttons sit under a short list. A longer list pages the way the AI picks: Numbers, Previous / Next, Load more or Infinite.
  • Your own choices stay. A list page you already changed in its settings, or your own page used as the list, keeps its design.
  • No answer, no change. If the AI has no usable answer, the list pages stay as they were built.

You can change all of it afterwards: in E-Commerce Settings → Products Listing → Customize for the store, in Booking Page Settings for Bookings, and in Listing Page Settings in the Blog or Help Center settings. This step uses a small amount of AI tokens. See How to show products on your pages, How to design your booking pages and How to design the blog list and post pages.

If a page fails

A page can fail to generate. On the canvas, it shows Generation failed with a Try again button, or Generation didn't finish with a Retry button. In the Pages list, a small warning or circular-arrow icon appears next to the page's name, with the tooltip Retry generation.

  1. On the canvas, click Try again or Retry. You can also click the icon next to the page in the Pages list.
  2. The page goes back into the Generating panel.

You can retry a page 2 times. After that, the page shows "Retries exhausted — contact support." See How to get help.

A page that makes no progress for 12 minutes is stopped and marked as failed: "Generation stopped responding for this page. It was not completed — retry it from the pages list."

Do failed pages use AI tokens?

Only for the AI work they already did. Before each AI step, TeleportHQ sets aside a small part of your token balance. When the step ends, you pay for what the AI actually used, even if the page then fails, and the rest of the amount set aside is released. A step that fails before the AI starts working costs nothing, and attempts that TeleportHQ throws away and redoes on its own aren't charged. That's why your balance can drop while pages build and then partly come back. Retrying a failed page runs the AI again, so it uses tokens again. Can I publish while pages are building or failed?

While pages are still building, clicking Publish shows "Your project is still generating. Please wait for it to finish before publishing." Wait until the Generating panel disappears, then publish.

Failed pages are left out of your published site. After publishing, TeleportHQ tells you, for example, "1 page that failed to generate was excluded from the published site." Retry those pages, then publish again. See How to publish your site.
