How to generate an online store or web app with AI
To generate an online store or web app with AI in TeleportHQ, click + New Project and choose E-commerce or Web App. You describe your idea, pick a theme, colors and fonts, and answer a few quick questions. The AI then builds a complete store (products, cart, checkout, customer accounts and an admin panel) or an app with logins, a database and workflows.
Before you start
- A store or web app stays a web app. Its code can't be downloaded, and it can't be switched to a website. You can still publish it from TeleportHQ. Not sure? Read What's the difference between a website and a web app?.
- A store or web app needs a Web App slot. Without one, it runs for 7 days. Trial and Premium workspaces include 1 slot. See Why does my web app need a slot, and what is the 7-day window?.
- It needs more AI tokens than a website. A web app or store needs at least 20,000 tokens to start. See What uses AI tokens, and how much?.
- A trial workspace can hold 1 project. See How many projects can I have?.
Generate an online store
- On your TeleportHQ dashboard, click + New Project.
- Click the E-commerce card. If TeleportHQ has templates of that kind, a panel opens with Generate with AI and, below it, Or continue with a template: click Generate with AI. Otherwise TeleportHQ creates the project and opens the AI setup straight away.
- On the Describe your store screen, describe what you sell and who buys it. For example:
A specialty coffee roaster selling single-origin beans, brewing gear and gift boxes to home baristas. Then click Next. - On Design preferences, choose a Theme Mode and an Animation Level, then click Next. A store has no Page Layout choice.
- On Colors & fonts, click a color palette and a font pairing, then click Next.
- If A few fast questions appears, answer each question, then click Continue. See Answer the quick questions below.
- On the Your products screen, click Generate products for me or Upload my own products.
- Click Build my store (or Build store with {n} products if you uploaded a file).
The Building your store screen shows each part being set up: the design system, authentication, e-commerce, your products and the admin panel. It usually takes a few minutes; keep the tab open. When it finishes, the editor opens and your store pages generate. The Your store is ready! window then asks how you want to accept payments. See How to accept payments with Stripe or PayPal.
About the products options:
- Generate products for me: the AI writes a starter catalog from your store description and your answers, with names, descriptions, prices, categories and images. You can edit or replace every product later.
- Upload my own products: import a
.csvor.jsonfile. A Shopify export works as it is, including variants. The AI reads your columns and matches them to product fields. Nothing is invented. See How to import products from a file (including Shopify).
Generate a web app
- On your TeleportHQ dashboard, click + New Project.
- Click the Web App card. If TeleportHQ has templates of that kind, a panel opens with Generate with AI and, below it, Or continue with a template: click Generate with AI. Otherwise TeleportHQ creates the project and opens the AI setup straight away.
- On the Business description screen, describe your app and who uses it. For example:
A class booking app for a yoga studio in Austin. Members sign up, book classes and see their upcoming bookings. Staff manage the weekly class schedule. Calm, warm and welcoming. Then click Next. - On Design preferences, choose a Theme Mode and an Animation Level.
- Under Page Layout, keep Standard for top navigation, or click Dashboard for sidebar navigation with a content area.
- Click Next.
- On Colors & fonts, click a color palette and a font pairing, then click Next.
- On A few fast questions, answer each question, then click Continue.
The Designing your project screen plans your pages, then the editor opens and your pages start generating.
Answer the quick questions
For web apps and stores, TeleportHQ asks up to 10 short questions so the AI builds the right features, for example "Should customers be able to book without an account?" The questions appear one by one while the AI writes them, and you can answer each one as soon as it appears. If the AI already knows enough, it skips them.
- Read the question. The label above it says Pick one or Multiple answers allowed.
- Click an answer. To give your own, click Write your own, type it (up to 500 characters) and click Add answer.
- Not sure? Click Answer for me on a question, or click Let AI answer all at the bottom to have the AI answer every question.
- When every question is answered, click Continue.
To change an answer, click Edit on its row. You can also change your answers later in Project settings → AI → Project brief, under Onboarding Q&A. See How to give the AI your business details and instructions.
Check that it worked
The TeleportHQ editor opens with a Generating panel that shows the pages being built. On a trial, the AI builds 1 page right away; on Pro or Premium, up to 4. For a store, the shop pages (products, product details, cart, checkout and orders) come with the store features, and the AI builds the homepage plus, on Pro or Premium, up to 3 content pages such as About or FAQ. The rest of the planned pages appear in the Pages list with a Create button. See What happens while AI builds your site (and if it fails).
Troubleshooting
"A web app needs at least 20,000 tokens to generate. Add more tokens, or continue with a website." Your balance is below what a web app or store needs. Buy tokens in the Purchase Tokens window that opens, or generate a website instead. See How to buy more AI tokens.
"Your token balance does not cover this generation. You need about {X} more tokens. Add more tokens, or switch off web app features." The first pages cost more than your balance. Add tokens and click Try again.
"We couldn’t prepare your questions" Click Try again, or click Continue without questions. The questions only fine-tune your project; the AI builds it without them.
"Please upload a .csv or .json file" The products upload takes only CSV or JSON files. Export your products in one of these formats.
"We hit a problem" on the Building your store screen The screen says what went wrong, for example "We couldn't set up your store's accounts and checkout. Your choices are saved — please try again." or "Your store is missing e-commerce, so nothing was built yet. Please try again." Click Try again, or click Back to products to change your products first. If it keeps failing, contact TeleportHQ support. See How to get help.
Good to know
- If the AI couldn't decide on some answers, you see "Picked defaults for {n} questions where the AI could not decide. You can change them later."
- The Dashboard page layout currently gives lower-quality results than Standard. Plan for extra polish after generation.
- If your balance can no longer cover a web app when you reach Design preferences, TeleportHQ switches the project to a website and shows the token message.
- Uploaded products replace AI products. You can't mix both in the setup; add more products later from the E-Commerce panel.
