How to describe your business from a website link or a document

On the first step of the TeleportHQ AI Website Builder, you don't have to type your business description. Click Generate from URL to have the AI write it from your current website, and rebuild up to 12 of that site's pages with the same wording in a new design. Or click Upload Documents to attach up to 5 documents, such as your brief or brand guidelines, and write the description from them. TeleportHQ follows the rules in your documents on every page it builds.

Before you start

Both buttons sit above the description box, next to the language menu.

Option A: Use your website's address

  1. On the Business description screen, click Generate from URL. The Generate description from your website window opens.
  2. Type your website's address, for example mybakery.com. TeleportHQ adds https:// for you.
  3. Check the Use the same content as the source website switch. It's on by default and rebuilds your pages with their current wording. Leaving it on confirms that you own the content or have permission to reuse it.
  4. Click Generate. The button changes to Reading your website…, and the window can't be closed until it finishes.

  1. When it's done, the window closes and your business description is filled in. Edit it if you like, then click Next.

What the switch changes:

  • On: TeleportHQ reads your sitemap, copies the visible text of up to 12 pages and takes a screenshot of each. Your new site rebuilds those pages with the same wording in a new design: the most important ones right away, and the rest with one click from your page list. Images, files and downloads aren't copied. This takes a few minutes, and the window shows each stage, for example Looking for your sitemap… and Reading your page content….
  • Off: TeleportHQ reads your homepage and writes a business description. It's quicker, and your new site gets new wording.

The AI looks at the screenshots only as inspiration, to see what each page is for and what to improve. It doesn't copy your old layout or design.

Check and correct the imported text

When the switch was on, a band appears above the description: Using content from {your site} · {n} pages.

  • To read the text copied from each page, click View content. The Imported website content window opens.
  • To correct a page's text in that window, click Edit copy, change the text, then click Save changes.
  • To stop rebuilding those pages and build from your description alone, click Remove on the band.

If some pages couldn't be read, the band says how many, for example · 2 unread, and a message says "Imported content from 10 of 12 pages."

Option B: Upload documents

  1. On the Business description screen, click Upload Documents. The Upload documents window opens.
  2. Drag your files onto the box, or click browse to pick them. You can attach up to 5 documents: PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown files, up to 10 MB each. For example, your brief, your brand guidelines or the rules your site must follow.
  3. Wait until each file appears in the list. TeleportHQ keeps reading the documents in the background and shows its progress.
  4. Click Write description from documents. The button changes to Writing your description…, then the window closes and your description is filled in. Anything you already typed is kept and merged in.
  5. Check the text, then click Next. If the documents are still being read, the next screen waits for them (Finishing reading your documents).

Attached documents stay with your project. Their rules apply to every page the AI builds, and to the AI Assistant, even if you type the description yourself. To attach documents and keep your own text, click Close instead of Write description from documents.

After you attach documents, a band above the description says Building from {n} documents, with how many pages, rules and facts were found:

  • View rules shows what was read from each document.
  • View pages shows the pages your documents ask for. If a document lists pages and their text, for example a site plan, the AI plans those pages and uses their text word for word.
  • Manage opens the Upload documents window, to add or remove documents. While the documents are still being read, it's called View progress.

The website language is set from your website or your documents. You can change it in the language menu above the text box.

Check that it worked

The text box on the Business description screen now holds a description of your business. A band above it shows the website you imported or the documents you attached. After the build, you can still read them in Project settings → AI → Project brief, under Documents and Website. See How to give the AI your business details and instructions.

Troubleshooting

"That doesn't look like a valid web address. Try https://example.com" Check the spelling of the address and try again.

"We couldn't reach that website. Check the address and try again." TeleportHQ couldn't open the address. Open it in your browser to check that it works, then try again.

"We couldn't find any pages to read on that website." or "We reached your pages but couldn't read any text from them." The site may load its text in a way the AI can't read. Turn off Use the same content as the source website, or type your description instead.

"This took longer than expected. Try again, or turn off “Use the same content” for a faster import." Large sites can time out. Try again, or turn the switch off.

"You don't have enough tokens for this import." or "You don't have enough tokens to read this document." Add tokens and try again. See How to buy more AI tokens.

"This workspace is not allowed to import website content. Check your plan and your role on this project." Ask the workspace owner or an admin to check your plan and your role.

"Website reading is temporarily unavailable. Please try again shortly." or "Something went wrong while reading your website. Please try again." Wait a minute and try again.

"This file type is not supported. Use PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown." or "Old .doc files cannot be read. Save it as .docx or PDF and try again." Save the file as PDF or DOCX, then attach it again.

"This file is larger than 10 MB." or "This file is empty." Use a smaller file, or export only the pages that describe your business.

"No text could be found in this file. Scanned documents need a text layer — try exporting it again as a PDF with text." The file is a picture of text. Export it again as a PDF with text, or use a DOCX file.

"This file could not be read. It may be damaged or password-protected." Remove the password, or save the file again, then attach it.

"You can attach up to 5 documents." In the Upload documents window, click the Remove icon next to a document, then attach the new one.

"Some documents could not be fully read", or the band says "1 document not fully read" A document's reading failed. In the window, click Retry next to the document, or Retry all. To go on without what couldn't be read, click Continue. On the band, click View progress to retry from the Upload documents window.

"This project has already been generated, so its documents can no longer change." Documents can only be changed before the AI builds the project. To give the AI new rules after the build, use the AI Assistant's custom instructions. See How to get better results from TeleportHQ's AI.

Good to know

  • The website link copies text only. Your old site's design, images, files and code are not copied.
  • If you edit the description after importing pages, those pages are still rebuilt with their original text. The band then says "Your description no longer lists these pages — they will still be rebuilt with their original content." Click Remove if you don't want that.
  • Using a website link with the switch off removes a website you imported earlier. Attaching documents doesn't: you can use a website and documents together.
  • On a trial, the AI builds 1 page right away. On Pro or Premium, an imported site of several pages gets at least 3 of its pages built right away (all of them if it has fewer), when your token balance allows. The rest wait in your Pages list with a Create button.
  • For a store, the imported text is reused for the content pages. The catalog, cart, checkout and admin pages are generated for you.
