Why can't I create a new project?

If TeleportHQ won't let you create a project, the workspace is usually full (a trial workspace holds 1 project, and archived projects count), its trial or subscription has ended, or your role or folder access doesn't allow it. Less often, a template or AI token limit applies. Match what you see on your dashboard to a cause below.

+ New Project is at the top right of your TeleportHQ dashboard. When it's greyed out, point at it: a message says why.

"Workspace has reached project limit"#

Cause: the TeleportHQ workspace already holds as many projects as it may. The window says, for example, "Your plan is limited to 1 project file per workspace." A trial workspace holds 1 project. Pro and Premium workspaces have unlimited projects (up to 1,000).

Archived projects count toward the limit. Deleted projects don't.

Fix:

• Owner: click Upgrade now and subscribe to Pro or Premium. See How to subscribe to Pro or Premium.
• Not the owner: ask the owner to upgrade. For you, Upgrade now opens the pricing page.
• Or delete a project you don't need. See How to delete a project.

The same limit applies when you Clone or Duplicate a project, or import a design from Figma ("Projects limit reached"). See How many projects can I have?.

"+ New Project" is greyed out: "This workspace’s subscription has ended. Resubscribe to create projects."#

Cause: the TeleportHQ workspace's trial or subscription has ended. Until it's renewed, you can't create, clone, rename or delete projects.

This also happens in a new workspace you created with Create without a plan after your account's trial was used up. Each account gets one trial, so a second workspace doesn't bring a new one: it starts without an active plan, and TeleportHQ says so when it creates it: "Your workspace was created, but without a trial: this account has already used its free trial. Choose a plan for the new workspace to start building in it."

Fix: the workspace owner clicks Subscribe to restore access (or Renew to restore access) on the dashboard. Or create the project in a workspace that has a plan. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends? and How does the TeleportHQ free trial work?.

"+ New Project" is greyed out: "Your role in this workspace can’t create projects."#

Cause: only Owners, Admins and Designers can create projects in a TeleportHQ workspace. With the Editor, Viewer or Limited Viewer role, + New Project is greyed out with this message.

Fix: ask the workspace owner or an admin for the Designer role, or ask them to create the project for you. See How to change a member's role and What can each role do?.

"+ New Project" is greyed out: "You can only create projects inside folders where you have direct access"#

Cause: the TeleportHQ workspace uses project folders. Designers can create projects only inside a folder they were added to. While a workspace has no folders at all, they can create projects anywhere. Owners and admins can always create projects anywhere.

Fix: open a folder you have access to, then click + New Project. If there's none, ask the workspace owner or an admin to add you to a folder, or to give you the Admin role. See How to control who can see a project folder.

A template shows "Limit reached"#

Cause: each TeleportHQ account can start projects from up to 10 different templates from the template gallery. Starting again from a template you already used doesn't count, and deleting a project doesn't give a template back. Under the templates heading, a note counts them, for example "You can start from 3 more templates with this account (7 of 10 used)." At the limit, the note reads "You have started from 10 different templates, the most one account can. The ones you already used stay available.", other templates show Limit reached, and starting one says "You have reached the limit of different templates for this account. You can keep building on the templates you already started from."

Fix: start again from a template you already used, or start a blank project or an AI project. See How to start a project from a template.

"You are cloning projects too quickly…" means you started several templates in a row. Up to 2 per minute and 10 per hour are allowed. Wait a minute, then try again.

"A web app needs at least 20,000 tokens to generate. Add more tokens, or continue with a presentation website."#

Cause: the E-commerce, Web App and Bookings cards of the TeleportHQ new-project window each build a web app with AI, and a web app needs a larger AI token balance to start than a presentation website.
