What happens when my trial or subscription ends?
When your TeleportHQ trial ends, or your paid subscription ends, the workspace is locked. TeleportHQ takes your published sites offline, removes your custom domains, archives every project and makes private projects public. After a trial that ended without a subscription, the archived projects are permanently deleted about 30 days later. After a paid subscription ends, they're kept: TeleportHQ doesn't delete them. To get them back, the workspace owner subscribes again. The projects return, and you republish them to put your sites back online.
When a TeleportHQ workspace ends
A workspace ends in one of these cases:
- The 7-day trial ends and nobody subscribed.
- A cancelled subscription reaches the end of its paid period. Cancelling doesn't stop anything straight away. See How to cancel (or resume) your subscription.
- A renewal payment keeps failing. TeleportHQ keeps the workspace working for up to 21 days while the payment is retried. If it still fails, the subscription ends. See My payment failed.
What TeleportHQ does to your projects
When the workspace ends, TeleportHQ does all of this, for every project in the workspace:
- Takes your published sites offline. All deployments are deleted, so the TeleportHQ address and your custom domain stop showing the site.
- Removes your custom domains from hosting.
- Archives every project. Archived projects are read-only: nobody can edit them.
- Makes private projects public. Anyone with a project's link can view it.
- Stops scheduled tasks such as scheduled workflows and blog posts, and deletes the visitor analytics and the files your web apps stored.
- Keeps your uploaded images and files with the project.
When a paid subscription ends, TeleportHQ also ends what was billed with it: extra editor seats, extra custom domains, extra languages and Web App slots.
What you see while the workspace is locked
- The owner sees a window when the dashboard opens: Your trial has ended or Your subscription has ended, with "Your projects are archived and all editing is paused." After a trial, it says how many days your work is kept. After a paid subscription, it says "Renew to restore full access. Your projects stay archived and are never deleted." Its button, Subscribe to Restore Access or Renew to Restore Access, opens the plan picker.
- Behind that window, the dashboard shows a panel with the same title and "Deployments and custom domains have been removed and your projects are archived." After a trial, it adds a countdown such as "They will be permanently deleted in 12 days." Its button is Subscribe to restore access or Renew to restore access.
- Other members see This workspace is locked and a message to contact the owner.
- The badge next to the workspace name says EXPIRED.
- + New Project is dimmed. You can't create, clone, rename or delete projects, or buy add-ons.
- Members can still be removed or made read-only, and can leave. The Owner or an Admin can remove a member, the Owner can change a member's role to Viewer or Limited Viewer, and members can leave the workspace. Inviting people and giving editing roles wait until the owner subscribes. The Collaborators tab says: "This workspace has no active plan, so it cannot invite members or give editing rights. You can still remove members or set them to a viewing role; choose a plan to invite again."
- In the editor, the header says Subscription ended — resubscribe to edit (owner) or Read-only — subscription ended (members).
When archived projects are deleted
What happens to the archived projects of a TeleportHQ workspace depends on how it ended:
- After a trial that ended without a subscription, TeleportHQ permanently deletes the archived projects about 30 days after they were archived. This includes each project's database. Deleted projects can't be restored. TeleportHQ emails the owner a reminder before the deletion.
- After a paid subscription ends, TeleportHQ never deletes the archived projects. They stay archived, with their sites offline, until the owner renews.
How to get your projects back
Only the workspace owner can restore a locked workspace.
- On the dashboard, click Subscribe to restore access (or Renew to restore access).
- Choose Pro or Premium and a billing period.
- Pay on the Stripe checkout page.
- Back on the dashboard, wait for the message "Welcome back! Your projects have been restored. Re-deploy to take your sites live again."
- Open each project you want online and publish it again. See How to publish your site.
- In the Publish window, check the Custom domain section. If your domain isn't connected any more, connect it again. See How to connect your own domain.
Good to know
- Subscribing doesn't make projects private again. Projects that were switched to public stay public. Set them back to Private yourself. See How to make a project private.
- Web apps are different. A web app that was archived because it had no Web App slot isn't restored by subscribing. Buy or assign a slot for it. See Why does my web app need a slot?.
- You can't archive a project yourself. Archiving only happens when a trial, subscription or Web App slot ends.
- Members may read about a 30-day limit. The window a member sees in a locked workspace says the trial has ended and that projects are preserved for 30 days, even when it was a paid subscription that ended. The projects of a workspace whose paid subscription ended are kept.
- Want to keep a copy? On Pro or Premium you can download your website's code before cancelling. See Can I download my site's code?.
- Premium to Pro: there is no in-place downgrade, so stepping down means the workspace ends before you subscribe to Pro. See Can I downgrade from Premium to Pro?.
