What does "Archived" mean on my project, and how do I restore it?
In TeleportHQ, an Archived badge on a project card means the project is frozen: you can't open it in the editor, and its published site is offline. Projects are archived automatically when a workspace's trial or subscription ends, or when a web app runs without a Web App slot for more than 7 days. The workspace owner restores them by subscribing again, or by giving the web app a slot, and then publishes them again. Archived projects are kept after a paid subscription ends, and so is a web app archived for lack of a slot: TeleportHQ doesn't delete them. Only after a trial that ended without a subscription are archived projects permanently deleted, about 30 days after they're archived.
What happens to an archived TeleportHQ project
When a TeleportHQ project is archived:
- It can't be edited. Its card on the dashboard can't be opened, and you can't rename, clone, move or delete it from the dashboard.
- Its published site goes offline. Its deployments and custom domain are removed.
- Private projects become Public when the archiving is caused by an ended trial or subscription. Anyone with a link to a Public project can view it.
- Its pages, design and uploaded files are kept, so it can be restored. After a trial that ended without a subscription, they're kept only until the deletion date.
- It still counts toward the workspace's project limit.
The badge's tooltip reads: "Archived project — it's no longer active and is hidden from the workspace. Restore it (or upgrade your plan) to keep editing."
Why TeleportHQ archives projects
There's no button to archive a project yourself. TeleportHQ archives projects in these situations:
- The 7-day trial ended without a subscription. Every project in the workspace is archived. See How does the TeleportHQ free trial work?.
- The workspace's subscription ended, for example after you cancelled it and the paid period ran out, or after a payment kept failing. Every project in the workspace is archived. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends?.
- A web app had no Web App slot for more than 7 days. Only that web app is archived. See Why does my web app need a slot, and what is the 7-day window?.
After the owner cancels a subscription, and while the paid period is still running, the owner's project cards show Archives in N days or Archives Today.
How to restore archived projects
If the trial or subscription ended
Only the TeleportHQ workspace owner can restore these projects.
- On your dashboard, open the workspace. A panel says "Your trial has ended" or "Your subscription has ended".
- Click Subscribe to restore access (or Renew to restore access). You can also click Restore on any archived project card.
- Choose a plan and complete the payment.
- When you return, a message confirms: "Welcome back! Your projects have been restored. Re-deploy to take your sites live again."
- Open each project you want online and click Publish again.
All projects archived for this reason are restored together. If a project had a custom domain, check it in the Publish window after publishing, because domains are removed when projects are archived. See How to connect your own domain.
If you're a member but not the owner, you see "This workspace is locked". Ask the workspace owner to subscribe.
If a web app lost its Web App slot
Subscribing again doesn't restore a web app that was archived for having no slot. Give it a Web App slot instead:
- On your dashboard, find the web app's card. It shows a red Subscription required chip and "Archived until a slot covers it".
- As the workspace owner, click Subscribe to unlock on the card to buy a slot for this web app. Or assign a slot you already have in the workspace settings, under Web Apps.
- When you buy the slot from the card, TeleportHQ opens the project afterwards and publishes it again for you if it was published before. When you assign a slot, open the project and publish it again yourself.
See How to buy, assign or cancel a web app slot.
When archived TeleportHQ projects are deleted
Whether TeleportHQ deletes archived projects depends on why they were archived:
- After a trial that ended without a subscription: the projects are permanently deleted about 30 days after they were archived, and can't be restored. While the workspace is locked, the owner's dashboard panel counts down: "They will be permanently deleted in N days." On the last day, it says "They are scheduled for permanent deletion today." TeleportHQ also emails the owner a reminder before the deletion.
- After a paid subscription ended: the projects are never deleted. They stay archived, with their sites offline, until the owner renews. The owner's panel has no countdown.
- A web app archived for having no slot is never deleted either. It stays archived until a slot covers it.
Good to know
- You can't tidy up while expired. In a workspace whose trial or subscription has ended, you can't delete, rename or clone projects until the owner subscribes.
- Subscribing again doesn't republish. After the workspace is restored, each site stays offline until you click Publish in its project.
- Restored projects stay Public. If a project was Private before it was archived, set it back to Private after restoring. See How to make a project private, view-only or cloneable.
- Members may read about a 30-day limit. When a member opens a locked workspace, a window says the trial has ended and that projects are preserved for 30 days, even when it was a paid subscription that ended. The projects of a workspace whose paid subscription ended are kept.
