Why is my TeleportHQ database inactive?
A TeleportHQ database becomes inactive when it's on the lower tier and its 7 days have passed. Every TeleportHQ database created during the trial is on the lower tier, and a database also moves to the lower tier when a subscription ends. Once the database is inactive, everything that uses it stops working, such as site logins, the store, online bookings, the blog and the admin panel. To fix it, subscribe the workspace to Pro or Premium within 30 days: TeleportHQ restores the database from its backup and moves it to the Pro and Premium limits.
1. The database was created during the trial
How to tell: your workspace is on the TeleportHQ trial, or was when the database was set up, and the database stopped working about a week later.
Cause: a TeleportHQ workspace on the trial doesn't have a subscription yet, so its TeleportHQ database gets the lower tier: 5,000 records per table, and it becomes inactive 7 days after it's created. During the trial, the Plan Limitations box shows a Trial Plan badge with these starter numbers and the notice "During the trial your database uses these starter limits and stays active for 7 days. Subscribing keeps it running and raises the limits to the paid plan ones.", with an Upgrade button.
Fix: subscribe the workspace to Pro or Premium. See How to subscribe to Pro or Premium. When the workspace subscribes, TeleportHQ restores and upgrades the TeleportHQ databases of its projects.
2. The subscription ended
How to tell: your Pro or Premium subscription ended, and about a week later the database stopped working. The workspace owner got an email titled "Important: Database Downgraded" when the subscription ended.
Cause: when a subscription ends, the workspace's TeleportHQ databases move to the lower tier. That starts a new 7-day period, after which they become inactive.
Fix: subscribe again. TeleportHQ restores and upgrades the databases. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends?
The emails TeleportHQ sends
The workspace owner gets an email for each project whose TeleportHQ database is about to stop:
- "Urgent: Database Expiring in 3 days", then "Urgent: Database Expiring in 1 day", followed by the project's name.
- "Database Disabled" when it becomes inactive. It says "Your data is safe for 30 days" and has a Restore Database button that opens TeleportHQ.
What stops working while the database is inactive
Everything in your TeleportHQ project that reads or saves data in the TeleportHQ database stops working, on the published site and in the editor:
- site logins and user accounts;
- the store;
- online bookings: the booking pages, your customers' bookings and the records in Growth → Bookings, because Bookings keeps its data only in the TeleportHQ database;
- forms that save their entries to the database;
- the blog and the Help Center;
- the admin panel;
- pages that show lists or records from the database.
In the editor, a table's window shows Error loading data, with a message that the project is not active.
Your data is kept for 30 days
Before an inactive database is removed, TeleportHQ backs up all its tables and rows. The backup is kept for 30 days. If the workspace subscribes to Pro or Premium within those 30 days, TeleportHQ creates the database again from the backup, on the Pro and Premium tier. After 30 days the backup is deleted for good, and the data can't be recovered.
How to avoid it during the trial
- Subscribe before you rely on the database. If you're testing logins, a store, bookings, a blog or a web app on the TeleportHQ trial, subscribe before the 7 days run out.
- Plan around the lower tier. During the trial, keep to the numbers in the Plan Limitations box: 5,000 records per table. See TeleportHQ database limits by plan.
- Keep a copy of important rows. Export a table to a CSV file from its table window (Export table data). See How to view, add and edit records.
