How to add variants, extras and related items to a bookable item
In TeleportHQ, a bookable item can offer more than one kind of itself, things to add, and other items to look at. Open the item in the Bookings panel and, at the bottom of its form, use More for this item: Variants are kinds of the item with their own price, rooms and photos (a sea or a garden view), Extras are what customers add to their booking (breakfast, parking, an airport shuttle), and Related Items are shown under You may also like on the item's page. Click Save Changes to keep them.
Before you start
- You need a bookable item, or the New Item form open. See How to add a bookable item.
- All of these are optional: "an item booked as it is needs none of these."
Open More for this item
- In the editor's left sidebar, click Bookings, then click the item's card. Its form opens beside the panel.
- Scroll to the bottom of the form, to More for this item. It has four rows: Variants, Extras, Related Items and Calendar Sync. Each row says Add, or what's set, for example 2 extras.
- Click a row. Its column opens beside the form. Click the row again, or the close button at the top of the column, to close it.
Calendar Sync has its own article: How to sync an item's calendar.
Add variants (a view, a bed type, a size)
Variants in TeleportHQ are the kinds of a bookable item a customer picks from on its page, for example a sea or a garden view, or a king bed or two singles.
- Click Variants. With none yet, the column says "No variant options yet. Add one like "View" or "Bed type" to offer this item in variants…". Click Add variant option.
- Type the option's name, for example
View, and press Enter (or click Create "View"). Options your other items use are listed to pick from. - In the option's card, type each value in Add value and press Enter after each, for example
Sea view, thenGarden view. - A table lists every combination, for example 2 variants, with these columns:
- Price (with your currency's symbol, for example Price (€)): the price per night, day or booking of that kind. Leave it empty to use the item's price, which shows greyed in the box.
- Own units: how many rooms (or units) of that kind there are, booked apart from the others. Leave it empty (Shared) to share the item's capacity.
- Under Photos of each variant, click a variant's row and add its photos. They show "on the item’s page when a customer picks the variant; the first one is its cover." Up to 10 per variant.
An item can have up to 3 variant options and up to 100 variants. A variant with its own units can follow its own calendar on Airbnb or Booking.com (a room type). See How to sync an item's calendar.
Add extras (breakfast, parking, an airport shuttle)
Extras in TeleportHQ are what customers can add to their booking. They pick them on the item's page and pay for them with the booking.
- Click Extras. With none yet, the column asks What can customers add?
- Pick a starting point:
- Under Ready-made, click Breakfast, Airport shuttle, Parking, Extra bed, Late check-out, Equipment or Insurance. Each comes with a starting price and how it's charged, which you can change.
- Or under Start from scratch, pick a type: Pick one (a room view, a set menu), Pick several (breakfast, parking, a late check-out), Number (extra beds, bikes, hours of childcare) or Yes or no (breakfast, travel insurance).
- Name the extra (for example
Breakfast) and set its price. For Pick one and Pick several, add each choice and its price in Add a choice and press Enter. - Switch on Required if customers must answer before booking. Help text is shown under the extra on the item's page.
In The price is charged, choose how the price adds up:
- Once per booking
- Per night (or Per day)
- Per guest
- Per guest per night (or Per guest per day)
An item booked by time offers only Once per booking and Per guest.
- To add another, click Add extra at the bottom of the column.
When you open the column again later, each extra shows folded: click its arrow (tooltip, for example, Edit Breakfast) to change it.
An item can have up to 30 extras. "Bookings already made keep the extras they were booked with."
Choose related items (You may also like)
Related items are other bookable items shown on this item's page under You may also like, for example another room type, a longer session or the same car in another size.
- Click Related Items.
- Under Add an item, search in Search by name or category… if you need to, then click an item. It moves to Selected.
- Change the order with Move up and Move down, or take one off with Remove.
You can pick up to 8. A hidden item says "Not shown while this item is hidden." Deleting an item takes it out of every other item's related items.
Save the item
Click Save Changes (or Create Item for a new item). Variants, extras and related items are saved with the item. If you close the form with changes you haven't saved, the Unsaved Changes window asks first: Keep Editing takes you back, Discard Changes drops them.
Check that it worked
The rows under More for this item show what's set, for example 2 variants, 3 extras or 1 item. On the item's page, customers now pick a variant, add extras and see You may also like. See Which pages does Bookings add, and what do customers do on them?.
Troubleshooting
"An item can have at most 100 variants. Remove a few values." Every combination of values is a variant. Remove values, or an option, until there are 100 or fewer.
"Enter a variant price of 0 or more, or leave it empty for the item’s price." A variant's price is negative. Fix it, or empty the box.
"A variant can have at most 10000 units of its own." Lower the number in Own units.
I can't add another variant option The column says "Up to 3 variant options per item." Combine values into fewer options.
"8 items are selected: remove one to add another." Related Items holds up to 8 items. Remove one first.
A related item says "This item was deleted — remove it." Click Remove on it, then Save Changes.
Good to know
- Removing a variant keeps its bookings. Bookings of a variant you remove keep naming it.
- Deleting a variant option can't be undone. The Delete this option? window removes the option and every variant that uses it.
- Variant and extra names aren't translated. On a site with several languages, they show as you wrote them. See How to translate your bookable items.
- The AI can write them. Autofill using AI adds the variants and extras your description implies. See How to fill in a bookable item with AI.
- Selling products instead? Store products have their own variants and options. See How to add sizes, colors and other variants.
