How to translate your bookable items
TeleportHQ translates your bookable items with AI when you add a language to your site (Automatically translate booking items) or change its language (Translate booking items). You can also translate or correct each item yourself on the Content language tabs at the top of its form in the Bookings panel. Each item's name, description and location are translated, together with your item categories. Photos, how it is booked, capacity and price are shared by every language.
Before you start
- Your site needs more than one language. Each language besides the main one needs a language slot. See How to add a language.
- Translating with AI uses AI tokens. See What uses AI tokens, and how much?.
Translate every item when you add a language
- At the top left of the canvas, click the language button, then Add language, and pick the language. For example,
Spanish. - In the Add Spanish inside the project window, leave Automatically translate booking items on. It shows while Bookings is on, and it's on at first. Turned off, the items stay in your main language until you translate them on their Content language tabs.
- Click Add Spanish.
The Adding Spanish to your project window shows a Booking items step. TeleportHQ adds a Spanish version of every item and translates its texts and your item categories.
If you buy the language slot through Stripe Checkout while adding the language, TeleportHQ adds the language without this window. Your booking items are then translated when Auto-translate content in the language menu is ticked (it is by default).
Translate the items when you change the site's language
When your TeleportHQ site has a single language and you move it to another one, for example from English to German:
- Click the language button at the top left of the canvas, click Change next to your language, and pick the new language.
- In the Change the project language to German window, leave Translate booking items on. The cost shows beside it, for example "About 1,200 AI tokens", and the window says what the whole translation costs.
- Click Change to German.
The items' own texts are rewritten in German. Texts already in German are kept as they are, and a backup of the project is saved before anything is translated. See How to change the main language or remove a language.
Translate or edit one item
- In the editor's left sidebar, click Bookings, then click the item's card.
- At the top of the form, under Content language, click the language's tab, for example Spanish. A dot on a tab means nothing is translated in that language yet.
- The form shows the fields to translate: Spanish Item Name, Spanish Description and Spanish Location. The hint says "A field left empty shows the English text on the site."
- Type a translation, or fill it with AI:
- Click the translate icon beside a field (tooltip, for example, "Translate the item name into Spanish").
- Or click Translate 3 empty fields to fill every empty field at once.
- Click Save Changes.
On the main language's tab, the labels name the language, for example English Item Name, so you can tell which version you're editing. A new item works the same way: write the main language first, then the other tabs.
Translate the item categories
Item categories are translated with the items when you add or change a language. To translate them yourself:
- In the Bookings panel, above the list, click Manage. The Manage Categories panel opens.
- Click the language's tab. A line shows how many categories are fully translated.
- Click Translate … with AI to fill the missing ones, or double-click a category's name to type its translation.
What visitors see
- Your booking pages show each item's name, description, location and category in the visitor's language.
- A field left empty shows the main language's text.
- The booking emails go out in the customer's language.
- Variant and extra names aren't translated: they show as you wrote them. Write them in a way that works for every language, or keep them short.
Check that it worked
Switch the language at the top left of the canvas and open your booking page: the items read in that language. In the item form, the language's tab no longer has a dot. On your published site, visitors see the translations in their language.
Troubleshooting
"Some booking items were not translated. Open them in the Bookings panel to translate them again." Adding the language worked, but the AI couldn't translate every item. Open each item, click the language's tab and click Translate … empty fields.
"Could not translate the empty fields into Spanish. Please try again." The AI couldn't finish. Try again, or type the translation yourself.
"Not enough AI tokens to translate the content: …" The Change the project language window shows this when your workspace can't pay for the translation. Click Buy AI tokens, or turn off some switches. If you change the language anyway, the items keep their current texts. See How to buy more AI tokens.
There are no Content language tabs in the item form Your site has one language. The tabs appear once it has two or more. See How to add a language.
Good to know
- Not enough AI tokens when you add a language? The language is still added, and the items keep your main language's texts until you translate them.
- Making another language the main one switches the items' main texts too. See How to change the main language or remove a language.
- Items an AI or an import writes come with translations: Autofill using AI writes every language of the site, and an import reads columns such as
es_name. See How to fill in a bookable item with AI and How to import bookable items.
