How TeleportHQ handles your project data and privacy

A TeleportHQ project can be opened by the people you invite to it and, if you set it to Can view or Can clone, by anyone who has its link. To run the product, TeleportHQ uses service providers for things like sign-in, payments, hosting, support chat and analytics. When you delete a project or your account, TeleportHQ removes its published sites, files and databases.

This article explains how the product behaves. For the legal terms, read TeleportHQ's Terms & Conditions and privacy policy.

Who can see your project

Access to a TeleportHQ project in the editor depends on its members and its Public access setting (Share button at the top right of the editor):

SettingWho can open the project in the editor
Private"Only collaborators can access". Needs a paid plan.
Can view"Anyone with the link can view, no sign-in required"
Can clone"Anyone with the link can use as a template". People with the link can make their own copy.
  • Workspace members and people invited to the project can open it according to their role.
  • On a free trial, projects can't be Private. They're Can view or Can clone, so anyone with the editor link can see them.
  • When a trial or subscription ends, TeleportHQ switches every project in the workspace to public and archives it. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends?
  • Your published site is separate from the editor link. On Pro and Premium it's a public website unless you add a password. On the trial, every publish puts the site behind a password, which you can remove only after the workspace subscribes. See How to password-protect your site.

To change the setting, see How to make a project private, view-only or cloneable.

What a copy of your project gets

When someone clones a TeleportHQ project set to Can clone, or anyone duplicates or copies a project, the copy gets the pages, components and design, and, if the project has a TeleportHQ database, its own copy of it. Some things never leave the original project:

  • Secrets aren't copied: the API keys and passwords saved in Project settings → Data & code → Secrets. The copy's editor lists each secret it needs as missing.
  • Payment providers are copied without their keys, so in the copy they read Needs configuration. Forms lose their reCAPTCHA keys.
  • The database is copied with its tables and the content you wrote, such as products, posts, bookable items and vouchers, but without your customers' data: no user accounts or passwords, orders, carts, bookings, comments, subscriptions, chat conversations or sent emails.
  • A copy made into another workspace starts as Private, whatever the original's setting. It also loses the original's collaborators and its Google Analytics and Tag Manager IDs, and the original team's email addresses in the project, such as where order alerts go, are replaced by the new owner's.

See How to make a project private, view-only or cloneable.

When TeleportHQ staff look at your project

You can give TeleportHQ support access by inviting them to your project. See How to share your project with TeleportHQ support. Projects set to Can view or Can clone can be opened by anyone with the link, including staff.

Service providers TeleportHQ uses

Like most online services, TeleportHQ relies on other companies to run parts of the product. Depending on what you use, some of your data is processed by providers of:

  • Sign-in and account security (your email address and sign-in method).
  • Payments and billing (your billing details, for paid plans).
  • Website hosting and custom domains (your published site's files).
  • Customer support chat (your email address, messages, and your answers to the welcome questions when you sign up).
  • Product analytics (how you use the TeleportHQ app).
  • Error monitoring (technical details when something goes wrong).
  • Email delivery (account, invitation and billing emails).
  • AI models (the prompts and project content you send when you use AI features).

When you delete your account, TeleportHQ asks the support chat and product analytics providers to delete your records.

Your site visitors' data

If you turn on TeleportHQ's built-in visitor analytics for your published site, see Does TeleportHQ analytics use cookies?. In short, for visitors to a site you publish with TeleportHQ:

  • Location lookup: built-in analytics sends each visitor's IP address to a third-party geolocation service to find their country and region. TeleportHQ doesn't save the IP address.
  • Clicks: built-in analytics records clicks on links, buttons and elements marked for tracking: the first 64 characters of their text, their ID and class names, and the full address of links to other websites.
  • Trackers you add: with a TeleportHQ cookie banner, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager wait for the visitor's Accept (Google's consent mode). Without the banner, they load as soon as a page opens. Pixels and code pasted into custom code always load as soon as a page opens, whether or not the visitor accepted.
  • Cookie banner: visitors can Accept or Decline the TeleportHQ Cookie Consent banner. Built-in analytics keeps a lasting visitor ID only after Accept; a visitor who declines is still counted anonymously. If pixels or other code you paste into custom code need to wait for consent, you set that up yourself, for example with a consent tool added through custom code.
  • Store sites: after a purchase, the analytics script saves the visitor's recent order numbers in their browser, even before they accept the banner.

What happens when you delete a project

When you delete a project from the dashboard (project card … menu → Delete), TeleportHQ:

  • takes its published site offline and frees its web address and custom domain;
  • removes its database, if it has one;
  • removes people who were invited only to that project.

You can't restore a deleted project yourself.

See How to delete a project.

What happens when you delete your account

When you delete your TeleportHQ account:

  • every workspace you own is deleted, with all its projects, even if other people work in it;
  • the published sites of those projects go offline and their custom domains are removed;
  • their uploaded files, databases, analytics and scheduled jobs are deleted;
  • your support chat and product analytics records are deleted, and your sign-in is removed;
  • workspaces you were only invited to aren't deleted; you're removed from them.

Deleting an account can't be undone. TeleportHQ's backups keep the deleted account's data for 30 days, then it's removed.

See How to delete your TeleportHQ account.

What happens when a trial or subscription ends

TeleportHQ removes the workspace's published sites and custom domains, makes its projects public and archives them. A workspace that has paid for a plan keeps its archived projects. When a trial ends without a subscription, its archived projects are permanently deleted about 30 days later unless the workspace subscribes. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends?

Does TeleportHQ analytics use cookies?

No. TeleportHQ's built-in visitor analytics never sets cookies and, apart from recent order numbers on store sites, stores nothing in visitors' browsers unless they accept your cookie banner; it records anonymous page views and clicks, doesn't keep IP addresses with visit records, and deletes detailed visit records after 90 days.

What happens when my trial or subscription ends?

When a TeleportHQ trial or paid subscription ends, the workspace is locked, published sites and custom domains are removed, all projects are archived and private projects become public; after a trial, archived projects are deleted about 30 days later, a workspace whose paid subscription ended keeps them, and subscribing again restores them so you can republish.
