How to keep a page out of your published site

How to keep a page out of your published site

In TeleportHQ, you can keep a page in your project without putting it on your live site. Right-click the page in the Pages list and click Exclude from Code Generation. The page is left out the next time you publish or download your code. To bring it back, click Include in Code Generation.

Before you start

  • This works for any page except your homepage and your 404 page.
  • You need a role that can edit pages.
  • A typical use: a Black Friday page you prepare weeks in advance.

Steps

  1. In the left sidebar, click the layers icon (tooltip Pages, Components & Tree View).
  2. In the Pages list, right-click the page. You can also click the … button at the end of its row.
  3. Click Exclude from Code Generation.

  1. Publish your site again so the change reaches your live site. See How to publish your site.

Check that it worked

In the Pages list, the excluded page's name is shown in brackets, for example ( Black Friday ), with a warning icon. Pointing at it shows Page is ignored on code generation. Excluded pages move to the top of their folder.

After you publish, the page's address on your live site no longer opens it. Buttons and menu items that pointed to it stay where they are, with the same text and style, but they no longer link anywhere.

Include the page again

To put an excluded TeleportHQ page back on your site:

  1. In the Pages list, right-click the page.
  2. Click Include in Code Generation.
  3. Publish your site again.

Troubleshooting

Exclude from Code Generation isn't in the menu The page is your homepage or your 404 page, which must always be published. To exclude your current homepage, first set another page as the homepage. See How to choose which page is your homepage.

The page is still on my live site Excluding only takes effect when you publish again. Open Publish and publish the site. See Why don't my changes show on my live site?

Good to know

  • Other ways to limit a page. Excluding removes the page completely. If you want the page live but not in Google, turn on No Index in Page SEO Settings instead. See How to hide a page from Google, set a canonical URL or redirect a page. If only signed-in visitors should see it, use Require Authentication. See How to make a page visible only to signed-in users.
  • To take the whole site offline, not one page, use Unpublish in the Publish window. See How to take your site offline (Unpublish).
  • You can still edit it. An excluded page stays fully editable on the canvas.
  • Some automatic tools skip it. One-click page animations, some AI tools and the links in premade navigation sections leave excluded pages out.
  • Terms & Conditions page. Right-clicking a page also offers Set as Terms & Conditions. That doesn't hide anything: it tells TeleportHQ which page to link from your cookie banner and store checkout.

How to add a new page

In the TeleportHQ editor, open Pages, Components & Tree View in the left sidebar, click + on the Pages folder, choose New Page → Blank Page and type a name; the new page starts with your site's navigation and footer.

How to hide a page from Google, set a canonical URL or redirect a page

In TeleportHQ, open a page's Page SEO Settings and turn on No Index to keep it out of Google, Custom Canonical to point search engines to another address, or Custom Redirect to send visitors elsewhere; hide the whole site with Show this site in search engines, and manage every redirect under Custom Redirects in Project settings → SEO & social → Search engines.

How to make a page visible only to signed-in users

In TeleportHQ, you make a page members-only by opening its menu in the Pages list (or Page settings → Security) and turning on Require Authentication; visitors who aren't signed in are sent to the sign-in page, Role Protection limits the page to a role such as editor, and in an online store Subscriber Access limits it to customers with an active subscription.

How to password-protect your site

On a TeleportHQ trial, or in any workspace without a paid subscription, every publish puts your site behind a 6-character password that you copy from Publish → Production → Password Protection and that stays until the workspace subscribes; on Pro or Premium the password is your choice, with Enable to add it and Remove to take it off.

How to publish your site

In TeleportHQ, click Publish at the top right of the editor, keep Production selected, and click Publish to Production; a progress bar beside the button shows each step, and after a few minutes your site is live on a free TeleportHQ address that you can share.

Why don't my changes show on my live site?

TeleportHQ doesn't publish design and page changes by itself, so they reach your live site only after you click Publish to Production; blog posts, help center articles and database records go live without a publish, usually within seconds, while cached lists and API answers can lag until their cache time runs out (5 minutes by default).
