How to list products on Google Shopping

A TeleportHQ store can list its products on Google Shopping through Google Merchant Center, Google's free tool for product listings. Publish your site, then open E-Commerce Settings → Google Shopping → Manage. Copy your Product feed URL (your site address followed by /feed.xml) and add it in Merchant Center as a scheduled fetch, or connect your Google account and click Sync products now.

Before you start

  • Publish your site first. Google needs a live, verified website with product pages it can open. The product feed file is also written when you publish. See How to publish your site.
  • Create a Google Merchant Center account, then verify and claim your website there. A custom domain is recommended. See How to connect your own domain.
  • Only products with the Active status are sent to Google.
  • Connecting your Google account needs an active Trial, Pro or Premium workspace.

Steps

  1. In the editor's left sidebar (the icon column), click E-commerce (the card icon). The E-Commerce panel opens.
  2. In the Products list, click a product. Its form opens beside the panel.
  3. Scroll to Google Shopping details ("Optional details that help Google Shopping list and match your products.").
  4. Fill in what applies:
    • Brand: for example Hearth & Crumb. If you leave it empty, TeleportHQ sends your site's name.
    • Condition: New, Refurbished or Used. It starts on New.
    • GTIN: the barcode number (UPC, EAN, ISBN or JAN), for example 0123456789012. Google strongly recommends it.
    • MPN: the manufacturer part number, for products without a GTIN such as handmade items.
  5. At the bottom of the form, click Save Changes.

2. Open the Google Shopping settings

  1. At the top right of the E-Commerce panel, click the gear (tooltip E-Commerce Settings). E-Commerce Setup opens beside the panel.
  2. Find Google Shopping ("List your products on Google Shopping — sync your catalog to Google Merchant Center or use the auto-generated product feed.") and click Manage. The Google Shopping panel opens beside it.

3a. Add your product feed to Merchant Center

A product feed is one web link that lists every product in your store in a format Google can read.

  1. In the Google Shopping panel, under Product feed URL, click Copy next to the link, for example https://hearthandcrumb.com/feed.xml.
  2. In Google Merchant Center, go to Products → Data sources.
  3. Click Add product source.
  4. Choose Scheduled fetch.
  5. Paste your feed link and save.

Google then reads the feed on a schedule. TeleportHQ writes the feed each time you publish, so after you add or change products, publish again: the feed lists your products as they were at your last publish.

3b. Or sync with your Google account

  1. In the Google Shopping panel, click Connect Google account. A Google sign-in window opens.
  2. Sign in and allow access.
  3. In Select an account…, choose your Merchant Center account. The panel says "Connected to" and the account name.
  4. Click Sync products now.

If the panel says Direct sync is coming soon ("One-click Google account connection is being finalized…"), there's no Connect Google account button yet; use the product feed instead.

If you don't have a Merchant Center account yet, open Don't have a Merchant Center account? Set one up in the panel. It walks you through four steps: create the account, add, verify and claim your website, accept the Shopping policies, and add your products.

Check that it worked

  • Feed: after publishing, open your feed link in a browser. You see a list of your products. In Merchant Center, the data source shows your products after Google's first fetch.
  • Sync: a message such as "Synced 12 products." appears, and the panel shows "Last sync:" with the number of products synced, removed and failed. If some failed, the first 5 errors are listed.

Troubleshooting

"Publish your store first" or "Publish your store first — Google needs a live, verified site before products can sync." TeleportHQ can't find an address for your site yet. Publish it, then reopen the Google Shopping panel.

The feed link opens an error page, or doesn't list your newest products The feed is written when you publish. Publish your site (again), then open the link.

"Pop-up blocked. Allow pop-ups for this site and try connecting again." Your browser blocked the Google sign-in window. Allow pop-ups for TeleportHQ and click Connect Google account again.

"Google Merchant Center isn't available yet. We're finishing the integration." The one-click connection isn't available. Use the product feed (step 3a).

"No Merchant Center accounts found for this Google login." The Google account you signed in with has no Merchant Center account. Create one, or click Disconnect and connect another Google account.

"Product sync failed. Please try again." or failed products in "Last sync:" Read the listed errors. Common fixes: add a Brand and a GTIN or MPN, and make sure the product has a photo and the Active status.

Good to know

  • Sync is manual. Products are sent when you click Sync products now. Click it again after you change products.
  • Stock is included. A product with a Quantity of 0 is listed as out of stock.
  • Products on their own page. A product that opens on a custom product page is listed with that page's address. See How to give a product its own page and design.
  • To disconnect, click Disconnect in the Google Shopping panel.
  • Google's own rules apply. Google reviews your products and website against its Shopping policies. TeleportHQ can't approve listings for you.
