How to turn visitor analytics on or off and choose tracked pages
TeleportHQ visitor analytics is on by default on Trial, Pro and Premium. To change it, open Growth, click the gear (tooltip Growth Settings) and flip the Visitor analytics switch. Publish afterwards so your live site picks up the change. Below the switch, Tracked pages lists the pages you want to record visits on.
Before you start
- Visitor analytics needs a Trial, Pro or Premium workspace. If the workspace's trial or subscription has ended, the switch shows off, and flipping it opens the upgrade window.
- You need a role that can edit the project.
Turn visitor analytics on or off
- In the left sidebar, click Growth.
- At the top of the Growth panel, click the gear (tooltip Growth Settings). The Growth Settings panel opens next to it.
- In the Visitor analytics card, flip the switch.
- A note appears in the card: "Note: You will need to publish your application for this change to take effect." Click Publish now.
- In the Publish window, publish your site. See How to publish your site.
When you turn TeleportHQ analytics on, a message says "Analytics enabled. Publish your project to start tracking visitors." Visits are recorded from your next publish.
When you turn it off, a message says "Analytics disabled. New visits stop being recorded right away; publish your project to remove the tracking script completely."
Choose which pages are tracked
In TeleportHQ, Tracked pages appears below the Visitor analytics card while analytics is on. It lists your pages and folders, each with a tick box. Every page is ticked by default, except admin panel pages.
- In Growth Settings, make sure Visitor analytics is on.
- Under Tracked pages, untick the pages you don't want to track, for example a members-only page. Untick a folder to untick every page inside it.
- Publish your site.
The list saves as you tick. There's no Save button.
From your next publish, TeleportHQ records nothing on unticked pages, admin panel pages included: no visits, no clicks and no store steps. A page whose address changes per item, like a product page, counts as one page in the list, so unticking it covers every item.
Check that it worked
At the top of the Growth panel, the status reads:
- Tracking active: analytics is on and your site is published.
- Analytics is off: you turned it off.
- Your site is not published yet: publish your site first.
- Upgrade to start tracking visitors: the workspace's trial or subscription has ended.
Troubleshooting
Turning the switch on opens an upgrade window The workspace's trial or subscription has ended. See What's the difference between Trial, Pro and Premium?.
"Could not update the analytics setting. Please try again." The change didn't save, and the switch goes back. Check your connection and flip the switch again.
I don't see Tracked pages Tracked pages only shows while Visitor analytics is on.
"This project is read-only — Growth actions are disabled." You can't turn analytics on in a project you can only view. Ask the project owner for edit access.
Good to know
- Your Terms & Conditions page gets an analytics notice. When you publish with analytics on, TeleportHQ adds a Website Analytics section to your Terms & Conditions page and shows "Your Terms & Conditions page was updated with the visitor analytics disclosure." It looks for a page named Terms & Conditions, Terms and Conditions or Terms of Service. If there's none, nothing is added. See Does TeleportHQ analytics use cookies?.
- Traffic limits. The Platform limits card in Growth Settings lists fixed limits that protect against abuse: Events per day, per project 1,000,000, Events per hour, per project 100,000 and Events per day, per IP address 50,000. Traffic above a limit isn't recorded until the counter resets. An event is one tracked action, like a page view or a click.
- Turning analytics off doesn't delete past data. Your reports still show the visits recorded before.
- A visit that starts on an unticked page loses its source. If a visitor lands on an unticked page and then moves to a tracked one, TeleportHQ doesn't know which website or campaign link sent them, so the visit counts as Direct.
- If your plan ends, visits stop being recorded and TeleportHQ deletes the project's visitor data. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends?.
- Using Google Analytics instead? You can turn TeleportHQ analytics off and use Google's. See How to add Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager.
