How to delete a workspace
In TeleportHQ, the workspace Owner deletes a workspace from Workspace Settings → General, using the red Delete workspace card at the bottom. Deleting a workspace permanently removes all of its projects and takes their published sites offline. You can only delete it once its plan, editor seats and add-ons have stopped billing, and only if you own at least one other workspace.
Before you start
- Only the workspace Owner can delete it. If you're a member of someone else's workspace, leave it instead. See How to leave a workspace.
- Deletion can't be undone. Every project, published site, uploaded file and database in the workspace is deleted, and all members lose access. If you want to keep a project, give a copy of it to another account first. See Can I transfer a project to another account?.
- Stop the billing first. A workspace whose plan, editor seats or add-ons (web app slots, custom domains or languages) still bill can't be deleted. Cancel them, and wait until their paid period ends. See How to cancel (or resume) your subscription.
- Keep one workspace. You can't delete the only workspace you own. Create another one first.
Steps
- On your dashboard, in the left sidebar, point at the workspace and click the ⋯ icon at the right end of its row.
- Click Workspace Settings. The General tab opens.
- Scroll to the red Delete workspace card at the bottom.
- Click Delete workspace. The Delete workspace window opens.
- Tick I understand this will permanently delete "<workspace name>".
- Click Delete workspace.
Check that it worked
The workspace disappears from your sidebar. If you had it open, TeleportHQ opens another of your workspaces. Otherwise you see "Workspace was successfully deleted."
Troubleshooting
When the workspace can't be deleted yet, the red card shows why instead of the Delete workspace button. Here's what each message means.
"This is your only workspace. Create another one first, then delete this one." Click New workspace to create another workspace, then delete this one. See How to create a new workspace.
"This workspace has an active subscription. Cancel it under Plans; when the paid period ends, the workspace can be deleted." Click Cancel subscription to open Plans and cancel the plan. Come back after the paid period ends.
"Your subscription is cancelled and ends on <date>. You can delete the workspace after that." The plan is already cancelled. Wait until that date, then delete the workspace.
"This workspace still pays for add-ons: web app slots, custom domains or languages. Cancel them under their tabs; when their paid period ends, the workspace can be deleted." Click Manage add-ons and cancel each add-on on its tab (Web Apps, Custom Domains or Extra Languages). Come back when their paid period ends.
"Free workspaces can be removed only 24 hours after creation" The workspace was created less than a day ago. Try again after 24 hours.
"Could not remove workspace. Please try again." Something went wrong. Reload the page and try again. An Academic workspace whose students were graduated can't be deleted: write to hello@teleporthq.io.
Good to know
- What deletion also does: it cancels any remaining plan, seat and add-on subscriptions, removes the projects' published sites and deployments, and deletes their scheduled tasks and TeleportHQ databases.
- Deleting your account deletes your workspaces. If you delete your TeleportHQ account, every workspace you own is deleted too, and your teammates lose access. See How to delete your TeleportHQ account.
