What is a workspace?
A TeleportHQ workspace is a shared space that holds projects, the people who work on them, and a plan with its billing. Every workspace has exactly one Owner. You can own several workspaces, for example one per client, and you can be a member of workspaces other people own. All of them are listed in the left sidebar of your dashboard.
What a workspace contains
Each TeleportHQ workspace has its own:
- Projects: the websites and web apps you build.
- Members: the people invited to work on its projects, each with a role. See What can each role do?.
- Plan: a workspace is either on the 7-day free trial, subscribed to a paid plan (Pro or Premium), or without an active plan because its trial or subscription ended. The plan decides what the workspace can do, such as how many web apps and AI tokens it gets. See What's the difference between Trial, Pro and Premium?.
- Billing: the subscription, add-ons, editor seats and invoices, managed by the Owner.
For example, a freelancer might have their own "My workspace" for personal sites, a "Client B" workspace on Premium, and also be a member of a client's "Acme Marketing" workspace.
Your first workspace
When you create a TeleportHQ account, you get a workspace called My workspace on the free trial. This happens even if you signed up because someone invited you. There's no separate "personal" space: every workspace, including your first one, can have members.
Where to find your workspaces
On the TeleportHQ dashboard, the left sidebar lists your workspaces in two sections:
- WORKSPACES: the workspaces you own.
- SHARED WITH ME: a Shared projects row with single projects other people shared with you, followed by the workspaces you were invited to.
Click a workspace's name to open it. Each workspace shows a badge with its plan: TRIAL, PRO, PREMIUM or EXPIRED (no active plan). Academic workspaces show ACADEMIC, and the workspaces of graduated students show GRADUATE.
Workspace Settings
To open a TeleportHQ workspace's settings, point at its name in the sidebar, click the ⋯ icon that appears at the right end of its row, and choose Workspace Settings. Clicking the ⋯ also opens that workspace.
The ⋯ menu is different for Owners and members:
- The Owner sees Workspace Settings, Manage Collaborators, Plans, Billing and Rename. Once the workspace has a subscription, the menu also lists Custom Domains, Extra Languages and Web Apps.
- A member sees Workspace Settings, See Collaborators and Leave Workspace.
Workspace Settings has a list of tabs on the left, under SETTINGS. The tabs you see depend on your role:
| Tab | What it's for | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| General | The plan, AI tokens, usage, the workspace name, and deleting or leaving the workspace | Everyone (only the Owner can edit) |
| Collaborators | Members, roles and editor seats | Everyone (the Owner and Admins invite and remove people; only the Owner changes roles) |
| Custom Domains | Custom domain slots | Owner |
| Extra Languages | Language slots | Owner |
| Web Apps | Web app slots | Owner |
| Billing | The subscription, cost breakdown, invoices and invoice details | Owner |
| Plans | Compare, change or cancel the plan | Owner |
A graduate workspace (see How to graduate a student from an Academic workspace) only has the General and Collaborators tabs.
Workspace members and project collaborators
There are two ways to give someone access in TeleportHQ:
- Invite them to the workspace. They can open every project in it, including new ones. See How to invite people to your workspace.
- Invite them to one project. They only see that project, listed under Shared projects. See How to invite someone to one project.
A workspace's plan and a member's role are different things
In TeleportHQ, the workspace's plan decides what the workspace can do, and each person's role decides what that person can do in it. They have different fixes:
- A role problem. A message such as "Your current role does not have enough permissions to publish this project" means your role doesn't allow it. The Owner or an Admin can give you another role. Upgrading the plan doesn't help.
- A plan problem. A window that asks you to choose a plan, upgrade or buy a slot means the workspace's plan doesn't include it. Only the Owner can change the plan.

Good to know
- Ownership can't be transferred. No option hands a workspace or its projects to another account. You can make someone an Admin, or give them a copy of a project. See Can I transfer a project to another account?.
- Projects can't be moved between workspaces. The only exception is graduating a student from an Academic workspace.
- Each workspace has its own plan. Upgrading one workspace doesn't upgrade your other workspaces.
- When a workspace's trial or subscription ends, its projects become read-only for everyone and are archived. See What happens when my trial or subscription ends?.
