What is Bookings in TeleportHQ, and what does it add to your site?

Bookings is the TeleportHQ plugin that lets visitors book on your site: rooms, appointments, tables, classes, rentals, anything booked by time, by night or by day. Customers pick a date and a time, or their dates, on a live calendar that never books the same time twice. They pay online or when they arrive, and they get emails about their booking. You set up what can be booked in the editor's Bookings panel, follow the bookings in Growth → Bookings, and run them from your live site's admin panel.

What TeleportHQ Bookings adds to a project

When you switch Bookings on, the Activate Bookings window lists what it adds, under What Bookings adds to your project:

  • A page listing what can be booked, and a page for each item with a live calendar.
  • Online payment through Stripe, PayPal and other providers, added in the Bookings panel.
  • A page where customers see their booking, add it to their calendar or cancel it.
  • Confirmation, reminder and cancellation emails, and an email to you for each booking.
  • Accounts and sign-in, so customers see their bookings and book faster.
  • Your bookable items, opening hours and bookings, managed in your admin panel.

The pages and what customers do on them are described in Which pages does Bookings add, and what do customers do on them?.

The three ways customers book in TeleportHQ

Every bookable item is booked one of three ways:

  • By time: "Appointments, classes, tables. Customers pick a day and a start time." For example, a hair salon's 45-minute haircut.
  • By night: "Rooms and holiday homes. Customers pick a check-in and a check-out day." For example, a double room in a small hotel.
  • By day: "Bikes, cars, equipment. Customers pick their first and last day." For example, a city bike rented for a weekend.

One TeleportHQ project can mix all three. Each item is booked its own way, which you set in its form. See How to add a bookable item.

What TeleportHQ Bookings needs

  • A web app. Bookings needs a server, so a website becomes a web app when you switch Bookings on ("Activating bookings requires a Web App."). A web app can't have its code downloaded, the change is permanent, and it needs a Web App slot to stay online after its first 7 days. See What is a web app in TeleportHQ?.
  • The TeleportHQ database. Bookings keeps your items and bookings in the built-in TeleportHQ database only. A project whose features already use another database can't take bookings.
  • Sign-in and the admin panel. Switching Bookings on also switches on sign-up and login for your visitors and, if it's off, your site's admin panel.
  • No plan limit on Bookings itself. Booking reminders and booking reports run on an active plan (Trial, Pro or Premium). Once a trial or subscription has ended, they show a PRO label and offer an upgrade.

Where you manage Bookings in TeleportHQ

While Bookings is on, the editor's left sidebar has a Bookings button. It opens the Bookings panel:

The TeleportHQ Bookings panel with 1 the Bookings button in the left sidebar, 2 the Booking Settings gear, 3 the Payment Providers section and 4 the Items list
  1. The Bookings button in the left sidebar opens the panel. In the panel header, the i button (Bookings Tutorial) plays the Bookings tour again.
  2. The gear (Booking Settings) opens the Bookings Setup drawer: approval, guest bookings, payment, invoices, booking times, opening hours, closed days, the booking page, emails, alerts, reminders and Disable Bookings. See What can I change in Booking Settings?.
  3. Payment Providers: the providers that take online payments, such as Stripe or PayPal. Your store, if you have one, uses the same ones. See How to choose how customers pay for bookings.
  4. Items: what people book. Add one with Add Item (the +), bring them in with Import items, and narrow the list by category.

The TeleportHQ bookings themselves are managed in two more places:

You can also switch Bookings on or off, and see its tour, from Plugins → Bookings in the left sidebar. The AI Assistant can switch Bookings on or off, add or change items and rules, and accept, decline or cancel a booking when you ask. See How to run and promote your bookings with AI.

How to spot a booking project on the TeleportHQ dashboard

A project with Bookings on shows a Bookings badge on its dashboard card. To list only those projects, click Filter above your projects, then tick Online bookings under Has.

The badge follows the plugin. A project you create with the Bookings card has it from the start, and switching Bookings on or off in the editor adds or removes it.

Good to know

  • Bookings and your store share the payment providers and the invoice settings. With a store, bookings are priced in the store's currency. Paddle sells digital products only, so bookings are never paid through Paddle.
  • Refunds are never automatic. When a booking paid online is declined or cancelled, you refund it yourself. See How to find and manage bookings in Growth.
  • A project can switch Bookings on at most 10 times. Switching it off keeps your items, bookings and settings. See How to turn off Bookings.
  • Changes reach your live site when you publish. See How to publish a web app.

How to add bookings to an existing project

To add bookings to an existing TeleportHQ project, open Plugins in the editor's left sidebar, click Bookings and switch on Bookings enabled, then choose what people book, your timezone, your currency and the navigation links in the Activate Bookings window; TeleportHQ builds the booking pages, two sample items, opening hours, emails, sign-in and the admin panel, and the project becomes a web app.

How to create a booking site with AI or a template

To create a booking site in TeleportHQ, click + New Project on your dashboard, choose the Bookings card, then generate it with AI by describing your business (or start from a booking template when one is offered); the AI builds the pages with Bookings already on, your first bookable items, your booking rules and your opening hours.

Which pages does Bookings add, and what do customers do on them?

TeleportHQ Bookings adds four pages in a bookings folder (the list of what can be booked at /book, one page per item with a live calendar at /book/<item>, each customer's own booking page, and My bookings at /my-bookings) plus a Bookings tab on the account page, where customers pick a date, book, pay, add the booking to their calendar or cancel it.

How to add a bookable item (a room, appointment, table, class or rental)

In TeleportHQ, open the Bookings panel in the editor's left sidebar, click Add Item (+) next to Items, fill in the New Item form (name, photos, how it is booked, capacity, guests and price) and click Create Item, and customers can book the item on your booking page.

How to find and manage bookings in Growth

In TeleportHQ, open Growth → Bookings in the editor's left sidebar to see the bookings customers make in tabs (Upcoming, Requests, Past, Cancelled, All), search and filter them, and click one to accept, decline, cancel, mark it attended or a no-show, refund its online payment or add a private note; the Calendar section shows every booking by date.

What is a web app in TeleportHQ?

In TeleportHQ, a web app is a project that uses server features (workflows, user sign-in, a store, bookings, a blog or help center, an admin panel, an AI chatbot); it publishes from TeleportHQ, can't be downloaded as code, and needs a Web App slot to keep running after 7 days, while show/hide, pop-ups and browser widgets work in websites too.
